Sledgehammer Games Developing 2014's Call of Duty Release

Series changing to three-year development cycle.

This year's Call of Duty is in development at Sledgehammer Games, Activision revealed during its investor earnings call today.

"For the first time, this years Call of Duty game, and future Call of Duty games, are being built on a three year development cycle," the publisher also revealed. There are several advantages to doing this, the first is of course quality This will give our designers more time to envision and to innovate."

This would put developer Treyarch's presumed next Call of Duty in a 2015 release window, with Infinity Ward following suit in 2016.

Earlier this year, Sledgehammer posted a job listing for a "next-gen Call of Duty game." Sledgehammer previously assisted on development of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Sledgehammer Is Working On The Next Call of Duty Title, First Possible Details Leaked

A couple of days ago, we got word that Sledgehammer Games was developing the next part in the Call of Duty series. And while there is no official confirmation of this info as of yet, a LinkedIn profile of one of Sledgehammer’s employees unofficially confirms that fact. Not only that, but OnlySP got word about some details about this new Call of Duty title, so keep reading.

According to an anonymous tipster – in other words, take everything you are about to read with a grain of salt – this new Call of Duty title will be a new entry to the Modern Warfare series and will be releases this year.

“The game is set in the year 2018 as a direct sequel to Modern Warfare 3 with the game taking place across Europe and Asia. Captain Price and Nikolai are set to make a return as the two main lead characters and will return to their roles in the British SAS. According to our tipster, the SAS will play a major role in the campaign, most likely being the main focus instead of switching all around different soldiers and teams as in previous Modern Warfare installments. Nikolai will also be a playable character at some point in the game and will actually talk, a first for the Call of Duty series, excepting Price.”

It is also said that the main villain of this new Call of Duty title will be Shepherd – apparently he’s not dead – and that there will be a stealth mission taking place in Amsterdam, and another place that will feature a mission will be Shanghai.

As always, take everything you just read with a grain of salt.

New Rumors About Dishonored II & Sledgehammer’s Call of Duty Surface

Moving on to today’s Call of Duty’s rumors, YouTube’s member ‘Drift0r’ claimed acquiring some leaked information about Sledgehammer’s upcoming COD. According to Drift0r, this new COD will be very futuristic and will feature good lighting physics. Drift0r claimed getting a glimpse at an Oblivion-like map (Oblivion the movie, not the game).

As always, take everything you just read with a grain of salt. We don’t know whether these rumors are legit, though we found them interesting enough (which is why we decided to share them with you).

Call of Duty 2014 is "ambitious" and "creative," Sledgehammer says

Sledgehammer Games cofounder Glen Schofield talks up the studio's latest project.

Today during a Game Developers Conference presentation, Sledgehammer Games cofounder Glen Schofield boasted about the studio's current project, this year's Call of Duty game.

He said the game is the "most ambitious, most creative game we've ever made," referring to his development career alongside other Sledgehammer Games cofounder Michael Condrey.

Activision Blizzard CEO Robert Kotick previously described 2014's Call of Duty title as "perhaps the best Call of Duty game ever created." Activision has yet to formally announce the game, but the publisher often announces new Call of Duty games in May, so the wait might not be much longer.

Also during the presentation today, Schofield and Condrey showed off an in-game character image for this year's Call of Duty 2014.
