New MechWarrior Announcement Coming

 

We still haven't seen MechWarrior: Online in action, but already another MechWarrior product is being teased. Originally found by RockPaperShotgun, the teaser site has a countdown clock and the ability to register for MechWarrior: Tactics.

 

While we don't know what exactly it is, we do know that developer A.C.R.O.N.Y.M. is involved. They've worked on a host of downloadable and social games, so it could be that Tactics will fall into this space. Also on the project is InfiniteGAME Publishing, the same company behind MechWarrior Online.

 

If you register, the confirmation email does tell you that its a "Free to Play offering from the MechWarrior universe." Maybe it's a tie-in to the upcoming free-to-play shooter?

MechWarrior Tactics coming this year, will be free-to-play

 

Roadhouse Interactive and A.C.R.O.N.Y.M. Games have announced that they're partnering with the newly-formed entity Infinite Game Publishing to deliver MechWarrior Tactics, a free-to-play, turn-based tactical combat game for PC later this year.

 

Set in the year 3025, MechWarrior Tactics will feature asynchronous, turn-based combat, and a large variety of customization options.

 

The announcement was revealed after a countdown on the game's official website. Though no details are present on the actual site--save for a promotional image--completing the free registration serves up some more details for interested parties.

 

Global leaderboards and combat replay features will be included, and though the skinny on microtransactions hasn't been shared yet, it's likely that it will enable players to purchase things like new weapons and mech-parts with cash, rather than earning them through the course of normal gameplay.

Mechs meet hex in MechWarrior Tactics screens

 

The first screens of MechWarrior Tactics reveal a combination of realistic (well, "realistic") robots and environments, combined with classic strategy game hex grids. We're going to imagine there's a little robot who paints those on the ground every morning.

MechWarrior Tactics 'friends and family' beta begins May 22

 

MechWarrior Tactics, the upcoming turn-based strategy game by Acronym Games and Roadhouse Interactive set in the BattleTech universe is entering a "friends and family" closed beta program on May 22.
