The reason this drive is coming up as invalid is because the drive was originally made for the Asian market. The minute a drive is imported into Europe the warranty is immediately voided. This is because there is a great deal of illegal imports being brought in from Asia and sold in Europe. Our warranty policy states that a drive can only be replaced through Western Digital on the continent it was originally sold on. We have this policy because taxes and prices are different on each continent and when an entity purchases drives in Asia or America and then resells in Europe they are making profit at the expense of Western Digital Europe and our customers, they may undercut European prices. This drive is a grey market import. It was made in Asia and someone has gone there to make money buy exporting this drive to Europe. (The warranty would be valid if you selected an Asian country.)

 

If you have bought this drive in Europe then I would recommend you take the drive back to place you bought it from as they should not be selling these types of drives. Alternativley if you can fax me, or reply to this e-mail with, the receipt or some kind of proof of purchase I will look into this further. Please provide on the fax: your name, shipping address, telephone number, e-mail address, the serial number of the drive and proof of purchase. Please put 'out of region RMA issue' and for the attention of James. We will replace with proof of purchase.
