What is the average lifespan of an Epson ecotank printer before the ink pad gets full?

You ask a very good question. There isn’t a good answer to it, though. As a technical support representative for Canon, I have handled many different cases of the waste ink absorbers filling. Sometimes less than 2 years with heavy usage to 8 years with moderate usage. Usually something else breaks before that happens. How many thousands of pages will it take? That depends on how many cleanings it does. There are a few things withing your control that can limit the number of cleanings. First of all, try not to unplug your unit. They all will perform a deep cleaning before the first print job after they have been plugged back in. You do not have any control over power outages, but if you already have a UPS, you can plug your printer into that. DO NOT run out and buy a UPS just for a printer. That wouldn’t be sensible. Only use one if you already have one. Only perform head cleanings if needed. I know some customers see it in the maintenance menu and they think it is a good idea to perform them as a preventative measure. The printer already does that on it’s own. No need to waste extra ink just because. That wasted ink has to go somewhere. Frequent usage is better than occasional usage. With frequent usage, there will be fewer cleanings between printings because the timer will not have a chance to count down to zero and trigger another cleaning. Ultimately, printers are expendable. The cost of repair is greater than the cost of replacement, unless the printer costs more than $300. On the bright side, there are videos on YouTube showing how to clean / replace the ink absorber and reset the counter on Epson printers. I doubt that Epson sanctions those videos, and it is a quite messy job. What count in the counter triggers the warning? That’s a trade secret.
