Nemo Δημοσ. 22 Ιουλίου 2004 Δημοσ. 22 Ιουλίου 2004 prin ~ 15 meres news Hidden within an Eidos Trading investor release, usually dull as dishwater, was a gaming bombshell. After trumpeting the shipping of 500,000 Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness's, it also let slip the news that it's taking responsibility of development of the Tomb Raider franchise away from UK-based Core Design. Eidos is transferring the development of the Tomb Raider franchise to Crystal Dynamics in the US. The statement adds: 'The next Tomb Raider game is scheduled to release during the financial year to 30 June 2005.' Grim enough for the Derby-based company - one of the brightest lights of British game development - but the ominous statement from Eidos Interactive also reads: 'In the light of this decision, the Company [Eidos] will now be evaluating the Core Design studio's on-going direction and contribution as part of the Group's overall development capabilities.' Remember that ex-Head of Core Design Jeremy Heath-Smith stepped down from the board of Eidos and Core a few weeks ago - it looks like the knives were already being sharpened. Nobody was available for comment at Core Design this morning, and Eidos had nothing to add to the statement. The lukewarm response to The Angel of Darkness from many quarters probably triggered the move, but sending development overseas to a company best known for vampire action games may raise a few eyebrows. ================== prosfata news A recent press release from Top Cow Productions, creators of the Tomb Raider comic, has stimulated all sorts of chatter about the possibilities for the seventh game in the series. The statement indicated a summer re-launch for the comic, in order to coincide with Tomb Raider VIIʼs proposed release date. Despite reports filtering back from Eidos America, apparently refusing to confirm this approximate schedule for the new game, this is indeed the case. Eidos UK announced back in March that Tomb Raider VII was due for a June 2005 release, and have reiterated this today. Unfortunately, the publishers arenʼt providing any more details at this stage. It is thought that Lara Croft will be enjoying a makeover prior to her return, with Top Cow President Matt Hawkins saying "[we] realised [Eidos] were changing Lara Croft up quite a bit", as reason for closing the current comic chapters in January. So when the new comic and game are released next June, fans should expect some sort of new look. Quite what this is will remain to be seen.
