This card is spectacular.... You are getting what you pay for, and watch out for cheap 9800 Pros, becuase they have 128 bit memory instead of 256, DONT BUY THEM! I got my card and flashed it to a 9800XT and the core is at 412 with the memory at 365 with stock cooling. ALSO, I found out that in fact, these are actually XT PCB's, so they come with the XT features, like thermal monitoring and... uh... the other thing. Also I have read from someone that got the exact card as I that he flashed the bios to a 9800XT w/ 256 megs of ram and it enabled all the features from that card. However, it did report 256 megs of ram, so that might be a problem for him later. You make the call. This card comes with the R360 core which doesn't overclock as well as the R350 (so i'm told if you get crazy with soldering transistors to your card).

I've reviewed this once, but mine's changed a little since then, so here goes.

 

Needless to say, this was an amazing card at stock speeds, but my insacible urge for more landed me with a success. After many hours of researching, making sure my card had the r360 core (didn't physically check, but I was told of some telltale signs) and running at the xt 412/364 speeds with stability and no artifacts. I decided to flash the Gecube 9800xt bios.

 

flashrom -p 0 9800xt.bin and about 10 seconds later and a screen flicker, I reboot, go into windows, reinstall my drivers, and to my amazement, it worked! My card now shows up as a 9800xt, running just fine at 412/364 on the stock cooling. (Though I do plan to get a thermaltake giant 3 very soon)

 

Now I'm getting easily in excess of 6100 in 3dmark! Read the link I put in to see more pictures and see my system specs.

 

I don't condone doing this, because it is a huge risk, but if you're willing to take it, it's definately worth it I'd say.

Gosh! I just got the card 1 week ago, and after receiving the card, I didn't know it comes with 9800XT layout( just like this one: After modifying the heatshink I have amazing overclock result. Finally I got core: 441MHz and memory 823.5Mhz perfectly stable!! Thank you newegg!! Great!! btw: before oc: 3dmark03: 52xx / after oc :61xx !!! I overclocked the card and let it run 3dmark03 for whole night last night flawlessly!! My system: P4 Northwood 2.6C (no oc yet!) / ASUS P4P800
