The former Tomb Raider developers are far from dead and are currently focusing on a new project...

 

Core Design (a wholly owned subsidiary of Eidos) over the years has been best known for their work on Eidos' Tomb Raider franchise. However, when the latest game in the series, The Angel of Darkness, flopped Eidos decided to strip Core of the franchise and hand over its development to Crystal Dynamics.

 

After that happened, Core's future with Eidos was a bit hazy. In fact, soon after, Tomb Raider creators Jeremy Heath-Smith and Adrian Smith departed Core Design in favor of starting their own development house, Circle Studio. However, according to Eidos CEO Mike McGarvey Core Design is alive and well and isn't going anywhere.

 

"We've been evaluating the studio in terms of looking at what direction we're going to take the studio in now that Tomb Raider has moved and we've changed the management within the studio," said McGarvey. "We're very pleased to

According to 1UP, Eidos and Crystal Dynamics have begun development on a new Tomb Raider title. The Tomb Raider franchise, originally developed by Core, was recently reassigned by Eidos to Crystal Dynamics, makers of the Soul Reaver series.

 

Eidos CEO Mike McGarvey commented on the upcoming Tomb Raider title, "We saw a new version of Tomb Raider for the first time last week at our development meeting and we were extremely impressed with the progress that's been made so far"
