- Do you Have a broadband connection and is unable to run DC++/oDC in active mode?!

- Do you know why you should use "active mode"?

Here are the answers to all your questions:

 

Why:

- When you are in "passive mode" you can't download from other users also in "passive mode", in other words, you get MORE search results and more people to download from when you are in "active mode"

- Sometimes the ones that are in "passive mode" gets disconnected from the hub when searching because it strains the hub more.

 

How:

How do you set yourself in "active mode"?

In DC++ or oDC you must do the following:

 

1: Type +myip here in the main chat window, a text will show up displaying your IP-adress.

2: In Dc++/oDC go to "File" In the top-left menu.

3: Choose "settings", and a window with setting will appear.

4: In the field "Connection Settings" you got three options (Active, Passive and Socks5), choose active.

5: Insert the IP-adress you got from the command +myip.

6: Press OK.

 

You are now in active mode. Try make a search and see if it works.

 

If you are using Windows XP and it doesn't work the reason can be that XP's built-in firewall is activated, Shut it down this way:

 

-Press the "start" button

-Navigate to the control-panel and choose "network connections"

-Right click on "connection to local network) and choose "settings", a new window will appear.

- Click on the tab "advanced" and locate the choise for firewall, see to it that it is unchecked. All done!

 

If you have one IP, and multiple computers and uses a router, this might help you to get active mode to work:

 

If you are connecting to the internet through a router you must configure these right if they are to work with the Direct Connect client.

 

First of all the router has to be set to forward all packages to a certain port on the local IP-adresses behind the router. An example will follow below with two computers behind a router.

 

Router with IP 217.211.21.44

Comp1 with IP 192.168.0.xx1

Comp2 with IP 192.168.0.xx2

 

Router:

 

1. Set the Router to forward packages (both UDP and TCP) on port 1412 to Comp1 (192.168.0.xx1) and it's port 1412

 

2. Set the Router to forward packages (both UDP and TCP) on port 1413 to Comp2 (192.168.0.xx2) and it's port 1413

 

Comp1:

 

1. Set your DC client on "active mode" and type the ip 217.211.21.44 and the port 1412

 

Comp2:

 

1. Set your DC client on "active mode" and type the ip 217.211.21.44 and the port 1413

 

If you run a firewall on the router don't forget to allow UDP and TCP on the ports 1412 and 1413

 

 

Note1: All IP's here are fictional and has to be replaced by your own IP-numbers, (use the +myip command)

 

Note2: If your internet connection uses a Dynamic IP (it changes sometimes when restarting your computer), you will have to type your new IP adress in again, if it has changed since the previous time you logged on to DC, (this goes for all users with dynamic IP's with or without routers).
