REMOVE explorer media player 9 preview?-!-?

Κοντεύω να τρελάθω, πως απενοργοποιείς το preview τον media files που κάνει ο M.d 9 αριστερά στο παράθυρο του explorer?

 

Δεν το γουσταρω βρε αδερφε! Είναι οτι πιο ενοχλητικό στα υπεροχα windows μου~!~ 8)

This tip will disable the preview for video files, but still keeps the preview for

images (which i find quite useful).

 

open regedit and find this key:

 

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}

 

Rename the key "{c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}" to "-{c5a40261-cd64-4ccf-84cb-c394da41d590}"

(i.e. put a dash in front of the existing name).

 

That's it, if it doesn't work then try restarting, for me the changes were immediate.

 

NOTE:

I use XP so I'm not sure if this works on a win2K machine. If it doesn't, or if the

key doesn't exist then you'll need to open

 

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.avi\ShellEx

 

and open the key inside (mine was called "{BB2E617C-0920-11d1-9A0B-00C04FC2D6C1}"

but it may be different in win2K). Open the "(default)" string value. The value inside

is the one you will need to rename in the

 

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\

 

path.

I've seen this coming up more and more all over the place so I figured I'd stick it here. 

Avi files (divx) can be trouble in xp. there is a fix to let xp behave much better so it's possible to move or delete large avi files. The obnoxious bug in XP that causes Explorer to read the entire contents of broken AVI files before allowing any access to them is caused by bad behavior of shmedia.dll. 

To correct this misbehavior in Windows XP, remove the following 
registry key. 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREClassesCLSID{87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E}InProcServer32 

This will prevent Explorer from loading shmedia.dll in response to file property queries on these files. 

Just an extra note, if you do a "search" for this key it will not be found, look for it manually it is very easy to find. As always newbie or not, if you FUBAR your registry its your own fault. This fix does work, I use it and have applied it to many XP machines. Now go ahead and fix this royal pain in the ass!
