Windows 10: Pushing my MacBook and iPad aside

 

The versatility of Windows 10 is gradually pushing my MacBook Air and iPad Air 2 to the side. This was unexpected and a testament to how good Windows 10 has become in such a short time.

 

I bought the Surface 3 primarily because it shipped with Windows 10. I wanted to get serious hands-on time with the latest version of Windows and the hardware of the Surface 3 seemed to be a good way to do that. A long-time MacBook user, what I didn't expect to happen was Windows 10 pushing the MacBook aside.

 

I now use the Surface 3 every day, and while I haven't retired the iPad or the MacBook Air I find I don't miss them when using Microsoft's device. I've given a lot of thought as to why that is, and it comes down to the versatility of Windows 10.

Microsoft has announced a new 'Surface Enterprise Initiative', under which the company will extend its existing relationships with some of its largest partners to boost Windows 10 adoption, and to drive sales of its Surface Pro tablets to business customers

 

 

As part of the new program, Dell will begin selling Microsoft's Surface Pro tablets and accessories to its business customers in North America, later expanding to the other 28 markets in which Surface is available for these buyers.

 

Dell will not only sell the Surface hardware, but customers will also be able to opt for the company's support with their purchase, including Dell Services, Hardware Warranty (up to four years), ProSupport with Accidental Damage Service, and Deployment Services.

 

Dell will continue to sell its own Windows 10 devices alongside the Surface Pro 3 - indeed, this is a pretty potent example of Microsoft's tablet complementing the range of one its hardware partners, and something of a middle finger to the naysayers who predicted that OEMs would quickly turn their backs on Microsoft for making its own PCs, and potentially eating into their sales

 

HP, Accenture and Avanade will also join the Surface Enterprise Initiative at a later date, although specific details for these companies were not announced today. Microsoft said:

 

This is the first in a series of partnerships to deliver even more value to our customers by bringing together amazing Windows 10 devices, industry specific apps and solutions, and unmatched sales, services and support.

There are a couple of interesting side-points worth noting about today's announcement. First, Microsoft's press release for its Dell partnership refers vaguely to 'Surface Pro devices', rather than specifically to 'the Surface Pro 3' - this is, of course, is due to a new version of the device that is on the way.

Microsoft’s Surface tablets have been focused on productivity for a while now. Businesses love the Surface devices, especially the Surface Pro 3 and the newer Surface 3. SkyWest is soon going to deploy 7,500 Surface 3 devices for its pilots. Microsoft states:

 

“SkyWest, Inc. is deploying Surface 3 to replace heavy paper-based flight kits containing navigational charts, and aircraft operating and reference manuals. SkyWest, Inc. committed to standardizing their Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) for ExpressJet and SkyWest pilots on Surface 3. At only 1.3lbs, Surface 3 can distill a heavy flight bag into a portable, powerful device while offering simplified management and security via Intune.”

Microsoft also revealed that the Surface 3 is now pre-qualified for FAA authorization:

 

“Surface is committed to the commercial aviation industry and we are continuing efforts to make it easier for commercial airlines to adopt Surface tablets. We’re happy to announce today that Surface 3 has been pre-qualified for airlines to seek authorization from both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for use as an EFB during all phases of flight. Through a rigorous evaluation process, Surface 3 has completed environmental and situational testing. Now, when airlines look to select the feature-rich Surface 3 for their EFB initiatives, deployment timelines will be significantly decreased, and the device itself may be used to its full computing potential, versus serving just as a simple document reader.”

Στο Device manager να κάνω update, αλλά που είναι να τους βρω?

Απίθανο να ευθύνεται για την αποτυχία εγκατάστασης του firmware update οι Intel drivers.

Δοκίμασε μία επανεκκίνηση και επίσης φρόντισε να ειναι φορτισμένο το tablet τουλάχιστον 70% μπαταρια η αλλιώς βάλτο σε ρεύμα και κάνε manual αναβάθμιση μέσω Windows update αποκλειστικά το firmware update και τίποτα αλλο.

 

Πάντως το τελευταίο firmware update δεν εχει σχέση με οτιδήποτε Intel components πχ η ενσωματωμένη κάρτα γραφικών και αναβάθμιση του.

 

Πάντως στα 10(ειτε επίσημη ειτε πιο πρόσφατη preview build)που εχω βάλει κάποιες φορες μου το εχει κανει και εμένα σε αντίθεση με 8.1 που εγκαθιστάται παντα με την μια και απροβλημάτιστα

Ακολουθείς τις οδηγίες αφού το πατήσεις.

Και εδώ bug των 10 είναι να στο ζητάει συνέχεια.

Ακολουθώ, αλλά επίσης δε βλέπω και mail καθόλου για το συγκεκριμμένο account καθώς και για το εταιρικό που τα κοιτάω στην εφαρμογή "Mail" του Store.

Άσε που δε συγχρονίζει καθόλου και με τα κινητά. Κενά mail. Και στο ένα, μάλιστα (Νοkia N9) χάθηκαν όλες οι επαφές που συγχρόνιζαν μ'αυτούς τους λογαριασμούς!

When the Surface Pro 3 was announced last spring, Adobe revealed that it was working on touch-friendly versions of its design apps for Windows. At today's Max event, the company announced that its collection "core" apps are ready to accept your swipes and taps on compatible devices, like Microsoft's slate, with new Touch Workspaces. Photoshop and Illustrator already had some touch-based features, but now there's an expanded software lineup that'll let you get hands-on with your work across audio, video, motion graphics and graphic design projects. This means that Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere Pro, After Effects and Audition all accept input with your fingers, in addition the regular ol' keyboard, trackpad or stylus. And Photoshop's finger-friendly tools have been revamped to improve performance. Adobe's timing couldn't be better either, as Microsoft is poised to announce some new devices in a matter of hours.

Δεν μπορώ να βοηθήσω περαιτέρω μιας εγώ με τα 8.1 είμαι και με τα 10ρια υπάρχουν διαφορές.

Αλλά μου κάνει εντύπωση να σου βγάλει μήνυμα για verify account.

Όπως είπα bug των 10 είναι διότι εγώ ουδέποτε είχα παρόμοιο θέμα.

 

Στην αρχή στο setup το κάνεις και ξεμπερδεύεις,αυτο είναι το λογικο.

Ακολουθώ, αλλά επίσης δε βλέπω και mail καθόλου για το συγκεκριμμένο account καθώς και για το εταιρικό που τα κοιτάω στην εφαρμογή "Mail" του Store.

We take a look at the differences, big and small, between the new Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and the Microsoft Surface Pro 3

The Surface Pro 4 has launched and from a distance it looks like Microsoft have just produced another Surface Pro 3 but there's a whole lot more to this tablet. From the screen on the outside to the components on the inside there are improvements all round but there's also a price increase and a smaller battery. Rea on for detailed information about the differences between the Surface Pro 4 and the Surface Pro 3.

Before we look at the Surface Pro 4 it's worth noting that two accessories were launched yesterday that could be considered an upgrade the Surface Pro 3. The new Pro Type Cover keyboard ($129) can be used on the Surface Pro 3. There's also a new dock that can be used with the Surface Pro 3. The Surface Dock ($199) uses the Surface connector and breaks out 2 mini DisplayPorts, a Gigabit Ethernet port, 4 USB 3.0 ports and an audio jack.

Let's start with the screen which is now a 'Pixelsense' 12.3-inch model in the same frame size. Resolution increases to 2736 x 1824 and there's a new co-processor that handles touch and digitizer input. The N-Trig digitizer now supports 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity and the pen includes 6+ month battery life, a pen-top eraser and attaches magnetically to the Surface Pro 4 frame. The pen supports changeable tips for different usage scenarios.

Internally the processor range has completely changed and now includes a Core M3 6Y30 entry-level processor. That model also comes with 128 GB SSD (up from 64 GB at the entry level) and is slightly lighter than other models leading us to suspect that the fan might have been removed from the Core M model. Performance of the entry level model should match the Core i3 model of the Surface Pro 3 based on performance we've seen so far in the Core m range. The Core i5-6300U / HD 520 and Core i7-6650U / HD 540 processors are offered in the mid and high-end models. The Core i7 version should offer significantly more CPU and GPU performance than on the Surface Pro 3 and all models should be more efficient across the complete range of usage scenarios. New audio, imaging and video processing hardware in the 6th-Gen Core processors could help significantly in some scenarios.

The ports and layout haven't changed due to a requirement that the Surface Pro 4 would fit into the existing docking station so you won't find USB-C or USB 3.1 and there's no WiGig, NFC or Wireless charging that some rumors had suggested.

Although processing efficiency is improved in the 6th-gen Cores there's a reduction in battery capacity (by about 10% to 38.2 Wh) that will offset this advantage. Don't expect vastly different battery life figures. Microsoft are quoting a 9-hour video playback battery life.

Maximum RAM and disk space options now include 16 GB and a 1TB storage option and the cameras get a boost to a 5 MP Windows Hello login-capable unit at the front and 8 MP auto-focus camera at the rear which could improve document and business-card scanning possibilities.

Finally we need to consider that fact that Surface Pro 4 has been designed alongside Windows 10 and while Surface Pro 3 obviously supports Windows 10 it's possible that the Pro 4 is better optimized in terms of component choice and driver optimizations.

Πανω κατω εκεί θα ειναι.
Εφόσον τελικά ειναι fanless όπως εικάζεται κατα 95% θα ειναι μια καλοδεχούμενη extra επιλογή για όσους προτιμάνε ενα εντελώς αθόρυβο Windows tablet.
