The Legend of Conan is still in the planning stages right now, but if Arnold Schwarzenegger's enthusiasm is an indicator, the film might actually see the light of day. If the film does get the greenlight, producer Fredrik Malmberg revealed their dream is to have Peter Jackson's WETA workshop provide special effects (viaTheArnoldFans.com).

“As you know right now, we’re concentrating on the story and the script, and then we’ll go out and find the right director who has the same passion as the rest of us in the group. And you always have to let the creative side and let the director put his stamp and mark on it so you never know what’s going to happen with the production design. I mean, we’re trying to get the TOP production people involved. We’re talking all the time about who we’d see doing the production, and our dream would be to have the WETA Workshop guys, the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit guys. They are huge Conan fans and they would be great to be involved on the creative side."

As of this writing, Arnold Schwarzenegger is 65 years old, but that's not stopping him from wanting to do this movie. He says he feels like he did when the original Conan was made.

“Well, age doesn’t mean anything to me, because I work out every day. I work out twice a day, as a matter of fact. At night I work out with weights, and in the morning I do cardiovascular training. So for me, to get on the set and to swing the sword around again and to ride the horses and all those things doesn’t mean anything [does not scare me], because I feel like I did thirty years ago. So as long as I stay in shape, that’s the key thing, and to keep your body young. Even though you do feel the pain when you wipe out and when you do your fight scenes and you get more sore and the body doesn’t come back as quickly and all this . . . but just grind through it, you know? That’s what it’s all about!” 

The film is said to be a direct sequel to 1984's Conan the Barbarian and will ignore the events of both Conan the Destroyer and of the most recent reboot, 2011's Conan the Barbarian, which features "Game of Thrones" star Jason Momoa in the lead. Universal is aiming for a 2014 release.

O Momoa μου φάνηκε πιο κοντά στα βιβλία πάντως και στο στυλ του 'δυνατού, αλλά και ευέλικτου' Conan. Το σενάριο ήταν που την χαντάκωσε.

 

Μπορεί ο Arnold να είναι ο πρώτος TV Conan και να μου αρέσει η πρώτη ταινία (ειδικά η μουσική), αλλά δεν τρελαίνομαι να τον δω σε 3η (4η βασικά, γιατί και στο Red Sonja σαν τον Conan ήταν, για διαφόρους λόγους άλλωστε).

 

ΥΓ. Πάντως, τις ατάκες που πέταει ο Conan με την προφορά του, δεν τις πιάνει κανείς.

Legend of Conan’ Begins Shooting in Fall 2015

Arnold Schwarzenegger just wrapped up a crazy weekend attending the Arnold Classic and Sports Festival in Columbus. While there, he offered more insight into his upcoming sequel Terminator Genisys, delving into the epic fight with his 1984 doppelgänger. He then went onto confirm that The Legend of Conan will, in fact, be his next movie.

TheArnoldFans website, which prides itself on having accurate information about all things Arnold, was told by The Legend of Conan producers that this long-awaited sequel to the original 1982 fantasy adventure will shoot in fall 2015. Production will begin once Arnold Schwarzenegger has finished his worldwide promotional tour forTerminator Genisys. They go onto report that Universal 'loved' the first draft of the screenplay. Will Beal is just days away from finishing the second draft, which is 'tighter'. It will be sent into the studio soon.

Arnold Schwarzenegger will next be seen in the zombie drama Maggie, which hits select theaters on May 8, just two months before Terminator Genisys opens worldwide. Schwarzenegger has already confirmed that he will be appearing in theUntitled Terminator Genisys sequel, but it looks like The Legend of Conan is coming first. The action icon also has a Twins sequel called Triplets on the horizon, but its unclear when that will actually happen.

The Legend of Conan comes to theaters November 2016 and stars Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Reviving franchises seems to be the norm for aging action stars, and Arnold Schwarzenegger has quite the library to comb through. He’s ready to head back into theaters next week in Terminator: Genisys, but he’s also dishing some tidbits on another long-lost series attached to his name:Conan The Barbarian.

The long rumored Legend of Conan film seems to be back on again and Schwarzenegger dropped a few hints about what we can expect in the new film at a recent press junket according to Nerd Report:

“I was hoping to do another one and I was hoping that the idea of Conan having been king for a long time, then just threw it all away and went into retirement and went off into the mountains,” Schwarzenegger said after the press conference. “That whole idea always appealed to me. Then of course he gets asked back because of some hideous and unbelievable things that are happening to the kingdom. So that’s when the battle begins again.”

Slash Film provides a few more details, tapping into some old interviews with Conan screenwriter Chris Morgan to detail how he views the character and wants him to be portrayed on the screen:

I want the warrior whose joints have started to fuse together, who has to crack the cartilage so he can pick up a sword again. I want the guy who’s not necessarily lost a step, but there’s some rust he has to shake off. I want to embrace that. It makes it a greater hero story. Conan needs to be faced with challenges. The greatest challenge to him isn’t the armies that are set before him. It’s, on some level, self-doubt, a little bit of slowing down and forcing yourself to be heroic beyond what people expect of you. What I don’t want is for him to step back in and look the same. That would defeat the purpose of our story.”

Slash Film continues on with other details from over the years, providing a clearer picture of the movie. The Legend Of Conan is aiming to be a brutal sequel to the original film (and Conan The Destroyer, dammit) and everything we’ve heard so far points to a story that holds that line. King Conan wears his crown on a troubled brow and the movie sounds like it will reflect that, at least at first. The only real hurdle is getting the movie made, something that’s been a long time coming and featured a few detours along the way.
