NAME Unofficial PS2 ScummVM

 

Description SCUMM VM, or "Script Creation Utility for Maniac Mansion Virtual Machine", is a work in progress implementation of Lucasarts SCUMM adventure game engine, which has the ability to play Secret of Monkey Island, Indiana Jones: FOA, Day of the Tentacle, and other classic 90's Lucasarts adventure games we all grew up playing on the PC

INFORMATION

 

A few months ago I played with the ps2dev free development tools and decided to try to port some app for ps2. The scummvm project caught my attention and during a few days this preliminary port was made. As the port contained a lot of bugs and crashed occasionally I did not want to release it until the bugs are fixed. But since then i have no time to squash the bugs (and probably won't have the time) so I just release it as it is. Feel free to experiment with the sources and make the port beter.

 

Please do NOT post bug reports to official scummvm site, beacause this port is not supported at all!

PS2 port features

-----------------

- graphics (2d drawing routines taken from tutorials by Tony Saveski)

- sound (SjPCM by Sjeep)

- dual shock controler support (ps2dev libs)

- memory card support (ps2dev libs)

- cdrom support (libcdvd by Hiryu & Sjeep)

- virtual keyboard

- PAL and NTSC

- SKY ans Simon engines are not compiled - scumm only build

 

Requirements

------------

- Ps2 ready to run homebrew programs

- The sjpcm.irx cdvd.irx and timer.irx modules must be present either in

cdrom0: or host: path.

PS2 port issues

---------------

- jerky looping sound during file accessing.

Temporary solution is to cache all/critical data files into ps2 memory.

If you want to cache some game files create PRECACHE.TXT and put it in the

game directory. The file should contain game filenames written each on new

line and should be uppercase. Be careful not to cache files of total size

exceeding 25 megabytes or else the program could crash.

 

- screen resolutin is limited to 320x200 pixels.

 

- memory card is accessed in port 0,0 only

 

- SCUMMVM.INI ps2 specific structure contains only section name ([playfate])

game data path (path=cdfs:\playfate\) and the description that appears in

the game selection menu (description=Indiana Jones 4 demo)

 

Final words

-----------

This port was created during a couple of days. I wanted to learn coding

on PS2 and after playing with tutorials i realized to try to port scummvm.

I did not intend to make 'top notch' port, just try some ps2 possibilities.

Feel free to play with the sources and make the ps2 port better!

 

Credits goes to Marcus Comstedt because the PS2 port is basicaly the port

of his DC port :-). Another credits goes to ps2dev scene and of course to

scummvm team and to Lucas people.
