Altitude offers addictive, fast-paced online multiplayer with numerous game modes, perks similar to Call of Duty Modern Warfare, several plane classes like Team Fortress, and dedicated servers for a budget price. Altitude is available to buy directly via the Altitude homepage for PC, Mac, and Linux, and released for online download services Steam, Direct2Drive, and Gamer's Gate on December 4.

 

For a limited time, Steam, Direct2Drive, and Gamer's Gate are offering Altitude at the reduced price of $9.95, $5 off the full price of $14.95.

 

The Altitude game's full features include 5 different plane classes with 3 unique "red" perks per class, along with 4 blue perks and 4 green perks available for all classes, 7 game modes both team-based and free-for-all, and several official maps in addition to a map editor to create one's own maps with online sharing options.

 

Playing Altitude online is as simple as searching for and joining available games from the servers list. Games are quick-paced and typically last between 10-20 minutes. Load times in-between matches are minimal, even when players must download custom maps (usually only 1-2 meg each).

 

Unfortunately, beginning Altitude may feel like a long, up-hill climb, as most of the plane types and perks are locked, requiring extensive play time to gain experience to unlock. At the same time, this set up offers the same addictive online multiplayer as Call of Duty Modern Warfare and it's sequel. Players can even gain additional exp by completing various challenges. Gamers will find themselves saying "just one more game" all too frequently.

 

While players will likely develop favorites between plane classes and perks, the game feels well designed and extensively play-tested, as no particular perks or classes feel overpowered. The cartoon graphics aren't particularly impressive, but the simple 2D Worms-like visuals allows even players with outdated PCs a chance to enjoy Altitude.

 

This quick-paced, online, arcade game style shooter offers a great deal of content at a generous price tag, and the game demo gives players an extensive look into the game before deciding on a purchase.
