Dungeon Siege III Official Announcement & Screenshots

 

Square Enix Ltd., the publisher of SQUARE ENIX interactive entertainment products in Europe and other PAL territories, announced today that it is partnering with Obsidian Entertainment on DUNGEON SIEGE 3. With input from the original developer, Gas Powered Games, Obsidian Entertainment will develop the next incarnation of the DUNGEON SIEGE franchise with Square Enix as the game’s publisher. Coming for the first time to high-def home video game consoles, DUNGEON SIEGE 3 will be available for the PlayStation3 computer entertainment system, the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Windows PC.

 

DUNGEON SIEGE 3 is representative of Square Enix’s ongoing strategic partnership with Western game developers and its commitment to increasing its presence in those markets. The game will bring together the beloved aspects of the DUNGEON SIEGE franchise with Obsidian Entertainment’s expertise, to create an evolved action-RPG experience. In addition to its arrival on high-def consoles for the first time, the game will also feature an all-new co-op multiplayer mode.

 

Originally created by Chris Taylor and his critically-acclaimed studio Gas Powered Games, Taylor will serve as an advisor during the development of the game. DUNGEON SIEGE 3 will seamlessly blend intuitive action gameplay and a robust RPG system in an immersive world where every decision the player makes will result in consequences.

 

On his involvement, Taylor comments, “It has been a great pleasure to collaborate with Obsidian. They are a very talented developer who really knows what it takes to build a deep and engaging RPG experience, and I can’t think of a better group to continue the Dungeon Siege series”.

It has been eighteen months since this interview took place and sadly the release of Dungeon Siege 3 seems as far off as ever. Given the probable release of Diablo 3 in late 2010 / early 2011 this probably wouldn’t be the best time for a release of a fantasy RPG rival anyway. It looks like we’ll have to hold our breaths or get our RPG fix somewhere else such as the expansion packs below if you haven’t tried them (details accurate on day of posting):

Back at this year's E3 we had a chance to check out a brief demo of Dungeon Siege III, and were happy to see it was looking good. Of course it was a demo prepped specifically for the show, but the presented material ran well and looked like it had the right elements to be a fun loot collection action-RPG. We recently had a chance to follow up with Obsidian Entertainment, who took over development on the franchise from Gas Powered Games, about some additional details.

 

It's still early in development so some aspects of the game like multiplayer, additional character classes, and various other specifics aren't yet being discussed. Below you'll find what we could get through a Q&A conducted via email with Rich Taylor, Project Director on Dungeon Siege III...

Δεν βλέπω τον λόγο να μην είναι in-game. Αμέσως κάνουν μπαμ αρκετά πράγματα που χτυπάνε στο μάτι από την προσπάθεια των devs να κρύψουν ατέλειες (Blur filter (check), DoF (check), HDR overused (check))

Αν έχει μεγάλη διάρκεια και καλό multiplayer co-op θα είναι must για εμένα.

Συνώνυμα δεν λες τπτ...Τουλάχιστον ελπίζω το σύστημα μάχης να είναι καλό μιας και στο final fantasy 13 ήταν το μόνο κομμάτι που ήταν πολύ καλό για εμένα.

 

Γαμώτο θυμάμαι τότε επί εποχές squaresoft τα παιχνίδια που έβγαζε ήταν σχεδόν όλα διαμάντια. Από τότε που συγχωνεύτηκε με την enix έχει πάρει την κάτω βόλτα!
