NVIDIA discredit the validity of 3DMark2003 as a gamer's benchmark

This just makes you laugh as for years nvidia has been a champion of 3DMark2*** and Now that 3DMark2003 has been released and nvidia's Geforce FX Dustbuster has been busted? they start crying!

 

NVIDIA discredit the validity of 3DMark2003 as a gamer's benchmark : By now, many of you are probably scrambling to download a copy of Futuremark's (formerly MadOnion) newly released 3DMark2003 DirectX benchmark. For about two years now, 3DMark2001 has been a tool almost universally used to gauge the DirectX video performance of system. This latest release seems to have caused a bit of a stir over at NVIDIA. We got our hands on a document published by the folks at NVIDIA, that aims to discredit the validity of 3DMark2003 as a "gamer's benchmark"...

Our own Sources confirmed that NVIDIA now does not want to launch the GeForce FX-based graphics cards in mass quantities. The Inquirer last week reported that the Santa Clara, California graphics processors developer does not want to produce more than 100 thousands of the GeForce FX VPUs. Moreover, given rather unsatisfactory results of reviews, NVIDIA now is not going to supply a lot of graphics cards for gamers, but concentrate on Quadro FX products as well as NV31, NV34 and NV35 product development.

 

In case only 100 thousands of graphics processors were produced, expect that there will be very few GeForce FX 5800 Ultra graphics cards at all, since the yields of higher-end cards that run at 500/1000MHz are not really high. So, if you still desire to get one of those rare GeForce FX 5800 Ultra beasts, pre-order one now or you will be too late. Consider that there are just 100 thousands of chips, a lot of them will be used for Quadro FX cards (these run at low core-speeds!), part of them will be supplied to partners who sell personal computers for gamers, as a result, there will be very few to be sold in retail and we should keep in mind that there should be two versions: 5800 and 5800 Ultra.

 

The GeForce FX 5800 Ultra now became a legendary hero that was never born, just like the 3dfx Voodoo 6000.

Έχει πλάκα που η nVidia έβγαλε drivers που ξαφνικά την φέρνουν από πάνω στο 3DMark. Η πλάκα είναι ότι δεν βελτιώνεται η απόδοσή της σαν κάρτα, μόνο οι επιδόσεις στο benchmark. 3DMark ptimised drivers λοιπόν...

 

Δείχνει πόσο για τον π... είναι το 3DMark κατά την γνώμη μου...

Γειά σου ρε My8o$...αρκετά υψηλό το επίπεδο των Post παίδες...

 

Δεν θα προσθέσω κάτι, απλά να σχολιάσω...

 

1ον) Συμφωνώ απόλυτα με τον My8o$ και τους υπόλοιπους στο ότι ένας κολοσσός όπως η nVidia δεν "μασάει"...άλλωστε δεν νομίζω να μπει και πολύ μέσα...αυτά τα 100.000 έστω FX chips θα μοσχοπωληθούν σε όσους τα παραγγείλουν στην εξοπραγματική τιμή λανσαρίσματος, και πολύ περισσότερο σε όσους αγοράσουν τις εκδόσεις Quadro FX.

 

H nVidia έχει αναλογίες Intel στον χώρο των γραφικών, και σίγουρα το R&D Group της έχει πολύ μεγαλύτερα περιθόρια για λανθασμένες κινήσεις, αλλά και λογικά περισσότερους "άσσους στο μανίκι του" από τον ανταγωνισμό. Το nv35 πιθανότατα να είναι πιο κοντά στην παρουσίασή του από όσο θα θέλαμε να ελπίζουμε (γιατί πολύ απλά πιστεύω ότι μας δουλεύουν κανονικότατα, όπως και με τα CPU).

 

2ον) Η monopoly σαν επιτραπέζιο μόνο παίζει με λίγα χιλιάρικα...πότε είδατε την 3dfx να έχει χαμηλές τιμές; Μήπως στα τελευταία της; Γιατί θυμάμαι κάτι τιμές της τάξης των 80.000δρχ για τις πρώτες Voodoo 2 12MB, που πριν από 6 και κάτι χρόνια αν δεν απατόμαι, ήταν ανάλογα των 500...

SANTA CLARA, CA. FEBRUARY 13, 2003 NVIDIA? Corporation (Nasdaq: NVDA) today reported financial results for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2003 and the fiscal year ended January 26, 2003.

For the fourth quarter of fiscal 2003, revenues were $469.0 million, compared to $503.7 million for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2002.  Net income for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2003 was $50.9 million, or $0.30 per diluted share, compared to net income of $76.0 million, or $0.43 per diluted share, for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2002.

On February 6, 2003, NVIDIA and Microsoft announced the settlement of all issues related to pricing of the Microsoft Xbox GPU and MCP chips.  As a result of the settlement NVIDIA recognized $40.4 million in additional revenue in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2003. Of the $40.4 million, revenues associated with unit sales in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2003 were $4.8 million and revenues associated with unit sales in prior quarters were $35.6 million. 

Revenues for the fiscal year ended January 26, 2003 were $1.91 billion, an increase of 39 percent compared to revenues of $1.37 billion for the fiscal year ended January 27, 2002.  Net income for the fiscal year ended January 26, 2003 was $90.8 million, or $0.54 per diluted share, compared to net income of $176.9 million, or $1.03 per diluted share, for the fiscal year ended January 27, 2002. 

As a result of growth in each of our businesses, we executed on a solid quarter and banner year, stated Jen-Hsun Huang, president and CEO of NVIDIA.  Our results demonstrate that we have developed into a multi-faceted business, with product leadership in each of the segments that we serve desktop GPU, mobile GPU, workstations, consumer electronics, and core logic.  Our investments this year in GeForce FX, Cg, the nForce MCP, and the Media Center PC have put us in a position to achieve yet another strong year.
