Nightigale - Audio Player

Ανοίγω αυτό το νήμα για να συζητάμε για τον nightgale audio player. Ο nightgale είναι ένα τελείως νέο πρόγραμμα και βασίζετε στο songbird.

Ο songbird πλέον ανακοίνωσε ότι σταματάει την υποστήριξη του για το linux και έτσι γεννήθηκε ο nightgale.

Η πρώτες ιδέες για το νέο πρόγραμμα σήμερα

 

So many comments! Thanks a lot for your support. While we are still building the community, here are some responses on what we are working on.

 

About theming : We want to provide native theme support, and while Nightingale aims to support GTK, QT will still be possible. LIB53 is working on the theme. topic here.

About the core : GStreamer will be used from the Linux System, and after Gecko 1.9.2 is merged in Songbird trunk, we will have it included in our sources.

About releasing : As we said before we want to release first for Linux users, but eventually for Windows and Mac users as well. We also want to release proper Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora and RedHat packages.

About Songbird compatibility : We will remain compatible with Songbird add-ons and feathers. the add-ons just will need to add our own application ID.

About performance : We will try to improve the performance, it’s not an easy part, the XULRunner 1.9.2 switch will bring some better performance still.

We now have our own source code server running on Bazaar (bzr) with the original Songbird source code (took 3 days !) and have made our first improvement

We also have Bugzilla running to track… bugs

No. Our servers weren’t hacked. Turns out a disgruntled developer who was provided with server access freaked out and deleted the forums.

 

We have no way of knowing if your passwords were compromised in the process. We do know that our email addresses and administrator passwords were modified in humorous ways though, so in the process of rebooting the project, we also recommend people reboot their passwords too. Whilst we have no reason to believe that the developer would use the passwords maliciously (we have their full details and they publicise their client's list) or that they were able to read passwords, we feel that being upfront is the best policy.

 

We hope in the process of rebooting the development project that we can put mechanisms in place to prevent this (and emails which have a suspiciously large number of recipients) happening again in the future. Sorry..

 

In other news, the current website is temporary and obviously still needs serious work. Please be patient whilst we define Nightingales future direction. Good things are coming (especially for Linux users).
