Black Bean announce WRC game for PS3, 360 and PC

 

Fans of the FIA World Rally Championship will soon be able to get closer to the action after it was announced today that a new official WRC console game is now under development and scheduled for launch in 2010.

 

The agreement with leading Milan based publisher, Black Bean Games, will see the WRC game available across the world for the first time on PlayStation®3, Xbox360® videogame and entertainment system from Microsoft® and PC formats. Black Bean Games, and their in-house development studio Milestone, have an excellent track record of successful motorsport games including the SBK Superbike championship and MotoGP.

 

The new official WRC game will provide the sport with major promotional and commercial opportunities, which will continue to grow the reach and appeal of the WRC on a global scale.

 

Simon Long, ISC CEO, said: “The official WRC game will engage a whole new audience for the sport and we’re tremendously excited at the opportunities to grow our fan base and the profile of the WRC. It provides a hugely powerful touch point for us in which to showcase the WRC to consumers, and it will be the most realistic and playable rally game of all time. We chose to work with Black Bean Games because they have a proven track record making top level games with the official license in two-wheel motorsport.”

The official WRC game agreement was secured by ISC, the exclusive worldwide media and commercial rights holder for the FIA World Rally Championship.

More On The New World Rally Championship Game

 

Back in October, Milan-based publisher Black Bean Games announced to have acquired the World Rally Championship license from owners ISC, planning to bring a new WRC video game to the PC and next-gen gaming consoles in September 2010.

 

Now, a few new infos have been emerged from the Motor Sport Business Forum in Monaco where ISC chairman Neil Duncanson disclosed some new details on the new title currently being developed by Milestone.

 

“From September next year we’ll be back in the gaming marketplace,” Duncanson commented. “We haven’t been there since 2005. For the rally fans, they’ve been short-changed. There is no definitive rally video game out there right now, so we’re going to come back with a bang, delivering the ultimate in off-road racing.

 

This will be all of the official cars on all of the official tracks, and because we own and deliver the timing systems and all of the satellite GPRS solutions, we’re able to give you the real version of rallying, delivered to your gaming platform.

 

The holy grail is to deliver a real, simultaneous live race experience where you’ll be able to go after Sebastien Loeb at the same time on the same stage, and compare your performance against his. In addition you’ll be able to have his live on-board camera footage integrated into the live game-play experience.”

 

The possibility to race against the WRC drivers had been mentioned before as iOpener has also been linked to this project a few months ago, rallying is certainly the best plattform to use this technology given that the events are time-trials with not more than one car at a time involved.

 

Another very promising comment is the fact that real stages are mentioned, something that’s badly needed to make the live-racing approach work. It remains to be seen to which lengths the real stages will be included though. As a typical WRC rally consists of several 30+ kilometer stages, it’s somewhat doubtful that the title will actually include all stages of all rallys on the calender, meaning that the live-racing feature could be limited to some stages.

iOpener Signs WRC Deal

 

iOpener has just confirmed to have signed a deal with the World Rally Championship, most likely concerning the upcoming official WRC title.

 

Published by Milan-based Black Bean Games and developed by Milestone, the new title has already been announced to have a heavy emphasis on letting the players race against the real WRC drivers, making iOpener and their impressive technology a likely choice for co-operation. Following involvement with several sports car racing teams and the FIA GT series, this partnership could be the breakthrough for iOpener’s technology to reach a world-wide gaming audience.

 

The upcoming World Rally Championship title is planned to be released this September for the PC and all major gaming consoles. More info on the iOpener partnership is expected to come up next week.

World Rally Championship – Developer Interview Video

World Rally Championship – Release Date Announced

 

Black Bean Games has announced the release date for their official World Rally Championship game as the title is scheduled to be available starting October 8th.

 

The game will feature the World Rally Championship including the Production WRC and Junior WRC classes, a demo of the title is planned to be available before the release.
