Eidos files Kane & Lynch 2 trademark

 

Eidos filed a trademark for Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days earlier this month, suggesting that a long-rumoured sequel is indeed on the way.

 

The posting, spotted by superannuation, was filed for use with videogames by Eidos on 8th July.

 

We've not heard anything back from the publisher about it yet.

 

However, Eidos has actually been open about the idea of a sequel for nearly two years, with Eidos' then CEO Jane Kavanagh telling MCV that year, "We've already got Kane & Lynch 2 in production, which just goes to show the belief we have in it as a long-term franchise."

 

The original Kane & Lynch: Dead Men picked up a 7/10 review at the time of release.

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days Officially Announced

 

IO Interactive, part of Square Enix Europe is pleased to confirm that Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is coming to PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system, Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and Windows PC in 2010.

 

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is a raw and brutal crime shooter designed to take players on an even more intense story experience, following two of gaming’s most disturbed criminals, through the gritty Shanghai underworld.

 

Introducing a new visual experience, Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days is inspired by documentary filmmakers and the user-generated era. Every aspect of the game has been designed to deliver a fresh perspective to the words ‘intensity’ and ‘realism’ in video games.

 

“Gamers are always looking for something new and that is exactly what they are going to get with Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days,” said Niels Jørgensen, general manager of IO Interactive. “A special thanks to gamers worldwide for their feedback. They are certainly in for a shock as we, with immense pride, welcome back our two dear, violent and somewhat unfortunate friends.”

Kane & Lynch 2 has you playing as Lynch, supports online co-op

 

Some more details were revealed for Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days through a fact sheet from Square Enix.

 

According to Kotaku, this time around you’re playing as Lynch who, after finding peace in Shanghai, finds that it’s the “perfect playground for expat criminals such as [himself]“.

 

Lynch also has a plan to “make a fat deal where the pay is beyond his wildest dreams and nothing is going to get in his way”. Good to hear.

 

The game supports online co-op, and like the original, online multiplayer.

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days First Look

Taking the sequel in a gritty new direction.

 

The original Kane & Lynch didn't quite set the critical world on fire. It had some control issues and could have used a bit more polish to truly shine, but it did introduce a pair of intriguing and ugly characters as well as a unique multiplayer mode. The team at Io Interactive could have simply smoothed out the rough edges, pound out a new story and called it a day. In the world of videogames, taking that route is almost expected.

 

For Kane & Lynch 2, you should expect the unexpected...

Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days PC Demo Coming Next Week

 

A Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days demo is now live on the PlayStation 3 in North America and throughout Europe and other PAL territories. The PC and 360 versions of the demo will be released next week.
