Will you be carrying over the ability of being able to play solo?" - "Yes, all of the knowledge and experience we got, we plan on using in the development of FFXIV." - "FFXI was originally designed based on party battles. With FFXIV, we'd like to have content for solo players, as well as extremely large battles for players to play together." - Next question: "Are there plans for worldwide launch of the game, simultaneous worldwide release?" - Tanaka says, "Yes, we will launch worldwide, in all regions, in the same four languages as we already announced." - Tanaka also confirms that the servers will be worldwide, and there will also be cross-platform servers. - Next question: "Will Square respond to players' feedback like they did in FFXI to make their lives in the game easier?" - Hashimoto: "We believe that the users voice is very important, we want to keep getting advice, we are currently still getting advice from FFXI users, we hope to get their feed back from FFXIV." - "We hope to have users play XI and then another day play XIV, communities will be independent, but if they want to communicate they can," Square Enix noted. - Another questioner queries: "Are there any special elements in the MMO genre that you will improve with this game?" - Hashimoto says, "Our plan from the beginning was to make the best Final Fantasy game available with FFXIV, that was our vision." "We thought, 'How can we make the best FF game?' We decided on the MMO genre." However, we are trying to implement a lot of new systems that other MMOs have not used in the past," he continued. "So in that sense, it may be revolutionary." - "Was yesterday's trailer the same quality that we'll actually see in the game?" is the next question. - Hashimoto says, "Yes, there were parts that were pre-rendered, but parts were running on the in-game engine." - "Are the fights many vs many rather than 1 v 1, and will there be changes in the battle system?" - "Good question, but I don't know how much I can answer. But we will have battles against many versus one or many vs many." - And the next question is..."What's different from FFXI and what would they like to do in this game?" - "We will have the same type of story-telling and expand on in-game systems. The player will be able to grow and develop in a natural way. It shouldn't put a lot of weight on the player itself, and through this, we'll develop the job system into something quite different." - Tanaka follows up with: "FFXI has gotten better, for FFXIV we want to make it so that if you want to play in a party, you can, if you want to play solo you can, or if you want to play all day, you can. We will have game systems and content there for all types of people." - "Have you given any thoughts to your beta testing? Will you let FFXI users in to the program?" - Tanaka says, "As with the actual release, we don't have a concrete beta schedule yet. All we can say is that we will have a beta, when we do have a schedule we swill give that to you." - "Is there any possibility of porting FFXI characters to FFXIV?" - Tanaka says, "The game is completely different, there won't be any way to take your character from XI and take it to XIV." He continues, "Since the character design is very similar, you can create a new character that will be like what you played in FFXI." "Also, FFXIV will not be using the PlayOnline system, however the friends list will be transferred over the FFXIV system." - Last question, "If I'm new to the MMO genre I have many options to choose from. Why would I choose FFXIV over these games?" - Komoto says, "We believe that players will fall in love with the world we've created and the story we have to offer. That's probably our biggest thing."

Although there are no details on what we'll get to see of the game at next month's event in Cologne, which runs from 19th to 23rd August, the news that it's ready to be shown in some form is great to hear so soon after its E3 reveal. Square Enix Europe lists FFXIV for PS3 and PC with a release date of 2010, and points out that it's "planned for a simultaneous global release with language support in German, French, English and Japanese".

A lot of new information has come out of the DVD and we've got it for you. Eorza is the name of a region that's the main setting of the game and as a full world, Vana'diel (from Final Fantasy XI) is naturally a little bigger. The actual world the game takes place in is called Haiderin. The style of Haiderin will be different from Vana'diel, aiming for a "high-fantasy" style setting. They want the setting to be more modern in comparison to Final Fantasy XI's more middle-age setting. There will be advanced technology in the world, as you've clearly seen from the skyships in the trailer. The races in Final Fantasy XIV will bring on a familiar look. However, the races of Final Fantasy XI are being reimagined. The Galka-looking character you've seen in the trailer, will not be called a Galka, but something else. Other changes will be in order as well. Final Fantasy XIV revolves around character growth. There will be no experience points or leveling system this time around, and a new system will come in to play. Square Enix wants to deliver an experience where new players have the freedom to try out any quest and many different things, growing naturally from their experiences. A deep story will be in tact in Final Fantasy XIV, including cut-scenes, but they're going beyond that by also delivering a wider variety of stories and quests. They want players to enjoy the process of character growth. Jobs were the lasting appeal of Final Fantasy XI. They want to utilize that concept, but stack more on top of it. The focus will be on weapons, determining how you play, grow, and fight. They'll be expanding upon the basic job system. He says this also explains the Final Fantasy XIV logo, which features weapons sticking out of the name. The main idea for Final Fantasy XIV is to provide freedom of growth through the variety of quests offered. However, players can meet up with friends and set off on adventure or they can play solo. Players won't be left with nothing to do, bored. Square Enix is considering large scale battles, however, regular battles will be against single enemies. During quests you can gather parties and fight against multiple foes. The game's music is going to be composed entirely by Uematsu. "This will be a Final Fantasy that brings the setting to a whole new world that you can experience with the new friends you will meet." Nobuaki Komoto, director of Final Fantasy XIV said. "I welcome you to join us in the world of Final Fantasy XIV and hope you enjoy your time there." "You can trust that we plan to create a world of new possibilities that redefine the MMO. The resulting peace has led to a wide swath of soldiers and mercenaries suddenly without a job, and so they're now forming guilds and calling themselves under a new name: adventurers. That's the very basic plot behind Final Fantasy XIV, the PS3/PC online RPG that Square Enix revealed at this year's E3. Now Square Enix is ready to reveal more of the goods, and in this week's issue of Famitsu magazine, game director Nobuaki Komoto offered some of the first really concrete details behind the MMORPG's gameplay. Here are the details: - Eorzea, the continent where players begin their game, is a small continent with several surrounding islands. Time passes, and weather changes, on a regular basis in this world, with one in-game day currently set to be about an hour of realtime. This exact figure may change, but as Komoto puts it, "it won't be like Eorzea will be night for hours because it's nighttime in reality... I want FFXIV to be enjoyed even by those who can play only a short time out of the day, so I'd like the sort of time schedule such that it's always a different experience timewise when you login to Eorzea." - Eorzea is home to five races which, although they have different names, look quite a bit like the races in Final Fantasy XI. You have the Hyuran (Hume in FFXI), Miqo'te (Mithra), Lalafell (Tarutaru), Elezen (Elvaan) and Roegadyn (Galka), and as you'd expect, you can fully customize the look your character no matter what race he or she's a member of. Hyuran are further divided into "midlanders" and "highlanders," and Miqo'te are divided into the diurnal Sunseekers and the nocturnal Moonkeepers, though how this affects gameplay is still under wraps. - FFXIV's "armory system" is what defines your character's growth. The game has four broadly defined "job skills" -- Fighter, Sorcerer, Gatherer and Crafter -- each of which has a variety of more specific classes (Swordsman, Blacksmith, Caster, etc) attached to it. You can change your class instantly simply by changing your weapon and armor, and as you fight and complete quests with that equipment, your character will advance in that class. You're free to concentrate entirely on one class, or try to balance yourself out among all the job skills. This armory system isn't exactly like the "job" concept that most Final Fantasy games work under. "The way I see it, the player can define how his own job works," says Komoto. "For example, if you have the Swordsman skill, that's enough to let you play by yourself, but if you've also raised your Sorcerer skill enough to unlock that skill's healing magic, that'll make solo play a lot easier for you. You can carry enough equipment around at any given time to change your style freely, and the system makes this easy by letting you change sets of equipment all at once." - This skill and class system largely replaces the traditional RPG concepts of levels and experience points in FFXIV. Instead of worrying about EXP, "I think the main thrust will be raising the skills you have at hand," as Komoto puts it. You'll probably still have to engage in good old-fashioned MMORPG grinding to improve your character, though. - FFXIV's quest system involves visiting Eorzea's guild and receiving work passes from the guildmaster. Other players can cooperate with you, and everyone can put their passes together to involve the entire gang in a sort of mini-campaign. The available passes change at regular intervals, and completing a single quest from one of these passes will be a relatively short process -- Komoto estimates it at around half an hour or so. "You don't need a set number of people for each quest," he said. "That you can work out by yourself with the other players in the guild, since they're all there for the same goal." kostacurtas Δημοσ. 2 Οκτωβρίου 2009 Μέλος Δημοσ. 2 Οκτωβρίου 2009 Tanaka: FFXIV beta will be Windows only Square Enix’s Hiromichi Tanaka has revealed to Game-Watch that the beta for Final Fantasy XIV will be a Windows only affair. The director for the MMO revealed that the beta will be closed at first and won’t be continuous, as the development team want to monitor things that are going on in the closed beta. However, as the game nears a release, the beta will be opened up and will be a 24 hour affair. It is currently unknown if the beta will be coming to the PS3 down the line. The game is due for launch next year on the PC and PS3.
kostacurtas Δημοσ. 12 Νοεμβρίου 2009 Μέλος Δημοσ. 12 Νοεμβρίου 2009 New Final Fantasy XIV classes revealed The official Final Fantasy XIV site has details on two new player classes for the forthcoming Square Enix MMO: Gladiator and Pugilist. Both of these are Disciples of War, belonging to one of the game's four disciplines: the others are Magic, the Land (gathering) and the Hand (crafting). Players can switch and develop their class at will according to the items they have equipped. The Gladiator is primarily a close-range swordsman, and is shown in heavy armour. Gladiators often use shields, but not always. Other weaponry includes throwing knives and the intriguing, bladed Lantern Shield. It's clearly a tank or melee fighter. The Pugilist is a pure melee fighter, doing the greatest damage at close range with fist weapons, but also proficient with thrown implements like the Chakram. We already know about three other Disciples of War: the Archer, Lancer and Marauder, although the latter remains something of a mystery, along with the whole discipline of Magic. Final Fantasy XIV is due for release on PS3 and PC next year. Gladiator Pugilist

Beginning December 16th, visitors to the game’s official website may apply to participate in one of the planned Beta phases. By taking part, applicants will be one step closer to obtaining a sneak peek at one of the most highly anticipated releases of 2010, and the unknown realm of Eorzea. FINAL FANTASY XIV is planned for simultaneous global release in 2010 on both the PlayStation 3 and PC (for Windows) platforms, with language support in Japanese, English, French and German.
