Overview:

 

Left 4 Dead 2 is the sequel to the best-selling and critically-acclaimed co-operative multiplayer smash from Valve, creators of the Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress and Counter-Strike game properties. Left 4 Dead 2 promises to become one of 2009's top-selling games and set a new benchmark for co-operative action games. The title adds melee combat to the award-winning L4D style of play, with items such as a chainsaw, frying pan, axe, baseball bat, and more.

 

Introducing the AI Director 2.0, L4D's dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players' performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played.

 

Finally, with new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original with more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, maps for Survival mode at launch, and more.

 

Supported by a $10+ million marketing campaign, Left 4 Dead has sold over 2.5 million retail copies since it was released in November of 2008. Left 4 Dead 2 is targeted for release on Xbox 360 and the PC this November, and will be launched worldwide with a multi-million dollar marketing campaign across TV, Outdoor and Online.

 

Setting:

 

Left 4 Dead 2 is set at roughly the same time as the original – just after the outbreak that turned most of the population into various zombie mutants. Players assume the role of 4 new “Survivors,” each with their own personality and new dialog. The game leads these “Survivors” through the southeastern region of the US - from Savannah, Georgia thru the bayou country, and climaxing in New Orleans’ French Quarter.

Ε να μην αρμέξουν την επιτυχία; :-)

 

Για να πω την αλήθεια δεν με ενθουσιάζουν τα νέα features... περισσότερο για ένα καλό modded L4D μου κάνει η δεύτερη αυτή έκδοση.

Κάλλιστα θα μπορούσαν να το ονομάσουν ως ένα expansion pack...

 

(Melee combat...chainsaw,axe... Killing floor?)

 

Φάση... ένας hunter παραμονεύει σε μια γωνία πολλά μέτρα μακριά. Κοιτά στην κοπελίτσα με την λίγη ζωή... Άλμα! {{Μπαμ}} Baseball strike! ...Out of field!

Φάση 2... Out of ammo... finale... Tank! Now what weapon?! ...4 survivors να παίρνουν στο κυνήγι τον tank με τα τηγάνια!

Πολύ έντονα χρώματα ρε παιδί μου... Που είναι το horror στοιχείο; Σε λίγο θα τους δούμε και με μπλουζάκια "I <3 Madonna"... Η πόλη φαίνεται πιο "ζωντανή" από αντίστοιχη του προκατόχου, σε τέτοια φάση που αν δω witch σε παγωτατζίδικο να κλαίει που της έπεσε το παγωτό, να μην εκπλήσσομαι!

Ρε βγάλτε κανένα Half Life Episode 3 που ούτε announced δεν είναι μετά από τόσο καιρό, και αφήστε το L4D... Ούτε εμένα μου λένε κάτι τα νέα features (όxι και τόσο νέα, τα μισά ηχητικά εφέ και όχι μόνο του video είναι από το L4D και το TF2, το game μέχρι στιγμής μοιάζει με L4D DLC 2). Btw, ακόμα περιμένουμε κανονική έκδοση του SDK ε?

Valve Defends Left 4 Dead 2 Release

 

The announcement of Left 4 Dead 2 following so closely after the first game has certainly had people talking. Steam members quickly started a boycott group, which already has over 17,000 members promising not to buy the game. But Valve has been consistent in claiming that the sequel isn't simply an attempt at quick cash, and rather a large upgrade from the first game that couldn't be done via downloadable content. Valve's Chet Faliszek told Videogamer.com that the project was originally called "this big thing," and that the sheer amount of content simply couldn't be handled by giving it out in small doses.

 

"It was like, OK, this is big enough that this isn't DLC, we're not going to be able to leak it out," he said, "it's a cohesive, single thing. It's Left 4 Dead 2. Our focus is always on what we're putting in the box, put as much as we can in the box. With the five campaigns, all of them out of the box, playable Versus, co-op, Survival and the new mode, there's just a ton of content in there." He went on to state that the original game won't be abandoned, saying they "still aren't done with it" and have updates coming.

 

Finally, Faliszek addressed the fear that Left 4 Dead will become a franchise with annual iterations. "We do it once in a year and everyone's like, oh my God! Let's do this one," he said. "Let's worry about this and then we'll see." Obviously that's not an outright denial of annual iterations, but it sounds like they're committed to only making sequels when they're worthwhile.

Valve confirms Left 4 Dead 2 multiplayer demo

 

Speaking to OXM at a London preview event for Left 4 Dead 2, Valve's Doug Lombardi confirmed that the company will be releasing a multiplayer demo for the game ahead of its release in November.

 

"With Left 4 Dead in particular we've found that word of mouth really is the strongest thing," Lombardi told us. "With Left 4 Dead 2 we plan to do a demo before the game comes out that'll have multiplayer in it. And hopefully we can continue the free weekends with the full game post-launch."

 

We had another play of a new level and can confirm that it's ace as only a game that features frying-pan-based combat can be. There'll be more Left 4 Dead 2 news in the next issue of OXM.

All L4D user-content will work with L4D2

 

Valve’s Chet Faliszek has told Kikizo that all L4D mods will work with L4D2. Just in case you needed any more Left 4 Dead news.

 

For modders, everything they make in Left 4 Dead will work in Left 4 Dead 2,” said Chet.

 

It’ll work better if they bring it into Left 4 Dead 2 and recompile it for Left 4 Dead 2, using some of the additions we’ve made, but it’ll work out of the box as well. We just want to make sure that anyone who’s making a mod now knows that their time’s going to be well spent.”
