Δυσκολεύομαι να πιστέψω ότι αυτή η υπηρεσία θα φέρνει στην οθόνη μου 1920χ1200 pixels @ 60fps minimum με 1ms lag και ότι αυτό θα μπορεί να το κάνει και για μερικές χιλιάδες χρήστες ταυτόχρονα με μένα. (Άσε που αν γίνει κάτι τέτοιο την άλλη μέρα τα ποσοστά του linux θα ανέβουν στο 20-30% και η M$ θα βουλιάξει, πράγμα βέβαια που δεν είναι κακό, αλλά αποκλείεται να αφήσουν να συμβεί)

Και καλά κάνεις! Εξάλλου από ένα άλλο review είπανε ότι υποστηρίζει μέχρι 720p και 24-30 καρέ (ουσιαστικά HD video είναι με ένα πατενταρισμένο codec το οποίο έχει optimization ως προς το latency και την γρήγορη μετατροπή από silicon graphics workstations). Όσο για τους χιλιάδες χρήστες απλά lol,ας δούμε πρώτα τι ψάρια θα πιάσει η beta το καλοκαίρι και μετά θα κρίνουμε κατά πόσο είναι εφαρμόσιμο σε ευρεία κλίμακα και κυρίως εκτός Αμερικής. Καλά για Ελλάδα δεν το συζητάω μιλήστε το με τους εναλλακτικούς και τους όρους συμβολαίων περί τοπικού βρόγχου, μέγιστου ping, ονομαστικής ταχύτητας, συφοριασμένων DSLAM κλπ

 

A 1.5 mbps connection (which is usually what base-level DSL is rated at) is required for standard-definition video (480p), while a 5.0 mbps connection is required for HD (720p). The actual necessary speed is a tad less than advertised, so as long as your provider says you have these speeds, you should be OK.

 

Do the games run at 60fps? Technically, yes, but the video stream makes it feel less so. They're still smooth, but Burnout wasn't as brisk as it is on a PS3, for instance. But make no mistake - everything we tried was completely playable (and most importantly, quite responsive), and being that you're able to play these games without any dedicated hardware, that's a huge, huge thing.

OnLive will not be exhibiting at E3 this year

 

OnLive will not be shown at E3 this year: it will not even have a presence.

 

In a post on the company’s site, chief operating officer Mike McGarvey issued a statement regarding the reasons for not attending.

 

More than anything, E3 is a retail-oriented conference, both for retail platforms and retail publishers, and OnLive is neither,” he wrote.

 

You’ll hear and see plenty from us this year in the run up to our external Beta and launch.”

 

The beta is set for summer with a US launch expected in autumn.

OnLive Tested

 

PC Perspective managed to go hands-on with OnLive, away from the controlled environments that OnLive's PR people typically enforce:

 

Based on my experience with the OnLive gaming service, it appears to work well for certain types of games. In my testing I found that games that were slower paced, or at least had slower paced input mechanisms, played well enough that I could be fooled into thinking I was playing on a modestly configured local gaming system. Both Burnout: Paradise and Tom Clancy's HAWX seemed to be completely playable on both my home PC and my notebook computer.

 

To be fair, both did play BETTER with a game pad attached as opposed to using the keyboard and mouse. I would contend though that both of these game titles were built for controllers and consoles before being built for a keyboard/mouse combo so that kind of makes sense. I also spent a bit of time on games like Company of Heroes, Mass Effect and the World of Goo demo and found they were all very playable as well. Because the game play styles are somewhat slower on those games, the mouse lag we noticed was workable and after a bit of time I found myself able to "adapt" - change when and where I need to stop my mouse movements in order to place the cursor at the right spot.

 

Obviously the games that didn't work were the fast paced shooter games: Unreal Tournament 3, Crysis and even Call of Juarez. If you are an avid PC gamer you will likely be very disappointed by the experience, both in terms of image quality and input latency, of playing these types of games using OnLive. This is especially true if you use a keyboard and mouse - using a game pad did mute the adverse effects quite a bit and made the game (and my apparent skill) more acceptable.

Onlive details launch plan

  • June US kick-off for PC/Mac streaming service
  • $14.95 subscription and publisher support
  • No details on Euro launch yet

Controversial games streaming service OnLive will launch in the US on June 17th backed by Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Take-Two Interactive, THQ and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, MCV can reveal.

 

The serivce launches on PC and Mac, and costs $14.95 a month, the firm told MCV.

 

"Individual titles will be available for purchase or rental on an a la carte basis. Specific game pricing, including rentals,purchases and loyalty programs, will be announced prior to the consumer launch event at E3. We’ll also be announcing additional loyalty and discount programs for consumers in the coming months."

 

As for Europe: "We are very focused on launching the service in the US at the moment, but stay tuned on our European plans," McGarvey told MCV.

OnLive subscriber invites sent out

Cloud gaming service gets ready for launch

 

Invites have been sent out to subscribers for server-based gaming service OnLive.

 

Kotaku reports that the invites have been emailed to customers.

 

OnLive is set to launch in the US on June 17, but UK customers are waiting on a launch date.

 

However, the ambitious service has signed a partnership with BT in Blighty.

 

The platform has won support from Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Take-Two Interactive, THQ and Warner Bros.

 

OnLive will offer up to 20 titles at launch include Assassin's Creed II, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and Metro 2033.

 

Microsoft and Sony have both dismissed the threat from OnLive, claiming that the technology is 'not there yet'.

Θα πρεπει να χρησιμοποιησεις καποιο προγραμμα οπως το Proxifier

Δεν ειμαι και σιγουρος παντως, αν υπαρχει καποιος πιο εμπειρος σε τετοια θεματα ας πει και αυτος την γνωμη του.

OnLive CEO Steve Perlman has admitted that the Cloud gaming service isn't ideal for hardcore gamers that want to play high-end titles.

 

The service launched in the US last month, and according to Perlman, subscriptions are far exceeding what the firm expected.

 

However, Perlman told CNET he'd be "super happy" if hardcore gamers used OnLive as a demo service - where they could test new games before downloading them in full from Steam and other digital games portals.

 

"If you're a hardcore gamer and you've got a big rig and you want the highest quality graphics then OnLive is not the place where you're going to play your high-end game," he admitted.

 

"Then again, to not have a huge download in order to trial something before you make the purchase decision, why not? Just click OnLive and give it a go. If you like it, terrific. Download the thing from Steam or order a copy on DVD."

@@... όλοι λέγαν οτι θα πάει καλά.. το project του αιώνα... !! απορώ δηλαδή πόσο σκέψη θέλει οτι ΔΕΝ θα πήγαινε καλά.. αν και δεν έχω δοκιμάσει να παίξω για να πώ εντυπώσεις δεν περιμένω να αλλάξει και πολύ η γνώμη μου όταν θα γίνει αυτό...

To συγκεκριμένο μπορεί να μην πάει καλά αλλά το όλο project και η ιδέα του cloud gaming δεν αργά η γρήγορα θα πετύχει. Ολοί στον χώρο θέλουν να πετύχει ιδίως τώρα με την διάδοση των υπερφορητών συσκευών όπως τα tablet, netbook.

Είμαι βέβαιος οτι την επόμενη δεκαετία οι κονσόλες θα έχουν αντικατασταθεί από μικρές συσκευές σαν το onlive που θα τρέχουν ακόμα και τα πιο απαιτητικά pc games
