BioWare: Mass Effect 2 Teaser 'Absolutely True'

 

Throwing more fuel on the fire, BioWare has teased a few more details regarding Mass Effect 2, telling Shacknews that while the game will indeed make use of saved data from the original--so hold on to those saves--the recent teaser trailer was all true as well.

 

Ray Muzyka: Everything we've said before about keeping your save games, keeping the continuity of the trilogy, is absolutely true. Everything we've said in the teaser is absolutely true as well. What does that mean?! How can it fit? That's a surprise.

 

Greg Zeschuk: We're full of secrets and mysteries.

 

Ray Muzyka: And you know, the fans are talking it up. We're excited by the reaction, because we released it knowing it would provoke that kind of reaction. And you know, it's a teaser, right? But we'll have more to show soon, and I think the fans are going to be very satisfied.

 

In case you haven't seen it, that teaser concludes with word that original Mass Effect protagonist Commander Shephard was "killed in action." Of course, there's always the chance that BioWare is utilizing some Kenobi-style "certain point of view" logic here.

 

The sci-fi action-RPG sequel is due to hit PC and Xbox 360 in early 2010.

Commander Shepard could still be alive in Mass Effect 2

 

Mass Effect fans should be happy to know that Commander Shepard may not be dead after all. Joy!

 

Casey Hudson, Mass Effect 2’s executive producer, hinted around in the latest BioWare developer blog that if Shepard is dead, it will mess things up a bit.

 

“I’ve heard some rumors that Commander Shepard is dead. Better not be,” he wrote.”We had a lot of big plans made, so if someone’s gone and killed Shepard then things are going to take an unexpected turn.”

 

Either he’s dead and we are being teased, or he is very much alive and just hiding somewhere.

 

Hopefully E3 will shed more light on things.

Juicy Mass Effect 2 Details

 

The July issue of OXM with Mass Effect 2 on the cover has found its way to subscribers. VG247 was kind enough to share all the little juicy details:

• You will play as Shepard, but for how long is unknown
  
• Story - The ultimate story is still civilization fending off the Reapers, but this chapter will deal with this Cerebus corporation and it’s enigmatic leader. There are human civilizations disappearing and it’s up to Shepard to investigate, it’s termed as a “suicide mission” which may lead to the details of the teaser.
  
• Totally revamped inventory system
  
• No more texture pop in
  
• Choices are more meaningful and there is a real risk that major support characters (i.e. anyone not Shepard) can and will die.
  

Obviously, there's a whole lot more where that came from, but I don't want to spoil it too much.
