SEGA has teamed up with Obsidian, who is also working on the Aliens RPG for SEGA, to develop its new 3rd person espionage focused action/RPG. Taking you on a suspenseful ride in the vein of James Bond, Jack Bauer, and Jason Bourne, Alpha Protocol has you work your way up the ranks as rookie agent Michael Thorton to become a bona-fide super spy.

Loyalty carries a price and no one knows this more than agent Michael Thorton. A talented young agent cast out by his government, Thorton is the only one with the information needed to stop an impending international catastrophe. To do so means he must cut himself off from the very people he is sworn to protect. As players determine how to accomplish different objectives, the decisions made and actions taken in each mission will ultimately transform the type of secret agent Michael Thorton will become. Every choice the player makes as Michael Thorton will carry consequences for his future and the fate of the world.

Uncharted + Mass Effect + Fallout = Alpha Protocol

 

A resurgent Sega, alongside Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords developer Obsidian Entertainment, has confirmed that it is working on a spy-based RPG title called Alpha Protocol, set for release in 2009. Alpha Protocol will be just one of many major releases that Sega is lining up, with Aliens: Colonial Marines also likely in early 2009, and Obsidian working on a sister Alien RPG project.

 

Alpha Protocol promises to merge the pulsating action of games like Uncharted: Drakeʼs Fortune with the deep, considered and player-defined character development of Mass Effect. As far as bringing together hot ideas, Obsidian could hardly have suggested two better points of comparison to get people salivating. However, this experienced developer is not simply walking in the footsteps of BioWare again.

 

Most of you will probably know Obsidian best as the developer of KOTOR II and Neverwinter Nights 2 (both franchises started by BioWare), but the founding members of the team were from Black Isle Studios, responsible for the seminal and hugely influential Fallout and Fallout 2. Since Black Isle was closed by Interplay, Obsidian has done consistently solid work on the titles it has been handed, but Alpha Protocol is a genuine opportunity for the developer to stamp its character on a new IP and for its team to once again make a claim for being the best RPG creators in the business.

E3 08: Alpha Protocol

 

The deluge of Sega assets continues, this time with screens from Obsidian Entertainmentʼs -- the folks who brought us Knights of the Old Republic 2 and Neverwinter Nights 2 -- new modern day role playing game Alpha Protocol.

 

The game follows special agent Michael Thorton who is the only person that can prevent a catastrophic international crisis. Players will be able to choose how Michael completes his missions: by the book, going rogue and slaughtering everyone that gets in your way, or being a smart mouthed jackass to everyone you meet, which will determine how things ultimately turn out.

 

Alpha Protocol will be skill -- rather than level -- based, letting you choose between close combat techniques, marksmanship, and gadget proficiency for Michael to focus in. The gameʼs title refers to some sort of weapon that the forces of evil are trying to utilize for their own nefarious ends. Thereʼs no word on what that weapon actually does, though.

 

Planned for release next February, Alpha Protocol will have a PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 version.

Obsidian's new action-RPG.

 

While Obsidian's next game may look like a third-person action game, it's still got quite a few RPG elements. As CIA agent Michel Thornton, you can accept quests, modify equipment, engage in branching conversations with NPCs, and employ special skills as you blast your way through the game in an attempt to untangle a high-level conspiracy...

 

...The build at GC build was certainly more impressive than what we saw at E3, as it was a lot smoother and polished. Alpha Protocol will contain somewhere around 20 hours of gameplay and is scheduled to ship sometime in February 2009 for PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

Πες τα ρε μαγκα γιατι τρελαινομαι...μετα απο crysis,farcry 2,fallout 3,assasin's creed,call of duty....βγαινου κατι games και λες που πανε τα παλικαρια με τετοια γραφικα...δηλαδη γιατι μπηκαν καν στο κοπο να πληρωσου crew για να φτιαξουν game..δεν πανε πουθενα...!δεν μπορεις να εισαι ανταγωνιστικος με μουφα γραφικα...οσο και τρελο να ειναι το gameplay σε fps τα γραφικα ειναι το Α κ το Ω!

Alpha Protocol confirmed for October 2009

 

SEGA Europe Ltd. today announced that Alpha Protocol™ – the groundbreaking game combining espionage, action and excitement with RPG choice and depth – will be available on retailer shelves globally October 2009.

 

The new gameplay trailer, showing in-game footage for the first time shows how players will travel to exotic locations around the globe, infiltrating terrorist camps and spy on unsavoury characters in the manner of their choosing. Alpha Protocol’s RPG and dialog system will allow players the choice to be smooth like James Bond, cold and precise like Jason Bourne, or just plain explosively kick-ass like Jack Bauer.

 

The year is 2009. Worldwide political tensions are at a breaking point when a commercial airliner is shot down by a U.S. missile over Eastern Europe, killing all aboard. Despite evidence to the contrary, the U.S. government claims no involvement and dispatches agent Michael Thorton to bring those responsible to justice. With more options than any other RPG, Alpha Protocol offers unprecedented control over the development of Thorton’s abilities and interactions with others. Physical combat, weapons mastery, cutting-edge technology and even seduction are just some of the skills to master.
