SDCC 08: Street Fighter IV Panel Report

IGN sees some new cinemas and has a new trailer!

 

In case you didn't know, Street Fighter IV is a big deal. Clues to this phenomenon include: 1) The fact that this franchise has made it to its fourth installment. 2) Raul Julia starred in a movie based on the series. 3) The line for the Street Fighter IV panel at the San Diego Comic-Con stretched all the way around the convention's largest second-floor presentation room.

 

SFIV Producer Yoshinoro Ono, SFIV Associate Producer David Crislip, and Capcom-Unity Senior Community Manager Seth Killian manned the hard-to-attend panel for nearly an hour and dropped all sorts knowledge and teases about the upcoming fighter, a game the world's been doing its best to hold out for...

Capcom Put Rough Window On SF IV Release

 

In the next quarter of this financial year, Capcom has no plans to launch any major titles. According to insiders however, Capcom said in a conference call today that it did plan to launch Street Fighter IV on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in the third quarter of this financial year, which would make it a holiday release (this Thanksgiving in the US?). Nothing has been confirmed, but that would make sense as Resident Evil 5 launches in March 2009.

Arcade - Akuma Is Here To Whop Your Street Fighter IV Butt

 

While we've known that the character was on the roster since earlier this year, Capcom has announced that from today Akuma has entered the Street Fighter IV arcade fray. The boss character is limited to popping up in the single player mode apparently when there's a "strong" arcade player. Sounds like he's here to kick ass and take coins.

Street Fighter Movie to Coincide with Street Fighter IV Launch

 

Street Fighter IV will indeed launch alongside the upcoming movie in March. We chat with the movie's producer about making a SF film that doesn't suck...

 

BIZ: Back in 1994, Capcom had the video game movie and then they released a new game based on the movie featuring Jean Claude Van Damme. Are there potential crossovers for you guys with Street Fighter IV?

 

PA: Capcom is releasing Street Fighter IV in 2009, which is the 20th anniversary of the game. The film and game release dates will coincide, but I'm not certain how much of the game will coincide with the story because ours is a very partitioned off origin story of the Street Fighter universe. So the release dates will coincide, elements between the two will coincide, but in terms of them relating to each other perfectly, I don't believe that's the case.
