Doom 4 - New Info

 

Looks like id’s usually impenetrable marketing fortress had a crack in it after all. Actor Brad Hawkins chatted to GGL Wire about the motion capture work in the FPS sequel, which was enough to reveal that the game would feature large-ish squads of human fighters working together - a mixture of soldiers and civilians. Does this mean D4 will chronicle an invasion of Earth by Hell-sent legions? Who knows, but it was a snatch of gossip too far for Doom devs id, who summarily had the interview removed. It’s even gone from Google’s cache now too.

 

Slashdot, fortunately, retains a pertinent quote:

"[Filmmaker Mark Bristol] was very specific on the civilians having a certain personality and the military characters having a separate one as well. The body language of the civilians is less, well, “trained.” They carry their guns in a looser fashion and are a little sloppier when they run, a little more freestyle. The military characters are sharp as razors, with very swift moves, exact hand positioning and can turn on a dime."

 

Whether it’s set on Earth, another spacebase or the Rumford branch of Morrison’s, it’s a strong hint that Doom 3’s sometimes tepid corridor-pounding and jack-in-the-box monsters might be left behind for something a little more ambitious and open. Let’s hope id stop being so precious soon, the big sillies.

Σήμερα ξεκινάει η Quakecon και εκτός των άλλων παιχνιδιών είναι πιθανό να έχουμε νέα και από το Doom.

Να μια φωτογραφία από την σκηνή όπου φαίνεται το λογότυπο του Doom:

Θα έχουμε επίσης την πρεμιέρα στο κοινό των Rage και Brink.

Η Quakecon είναι από 13 έως 15 Αυγούστου και αυτό είναι το λεπτομερές πρόγραμμα.

id Promises Doom 4 News at QuakeCon 2010

 

Those hoping id Software would today reveal more information about its anticipated shooter Doom 4 are bound to be disappointed, as CEO Todd Hollenshead used this year's QuakeCon press conference to promise more details at next year's event.

"When we show it to you you're gonna love it," he promised the clamoring crowd.

Studio technical director John Carmack later added that the project represents "the most tightly managed approach" that the company has ever used, as, thanks to continuing work on the id Tech 5 engine and Rage, some of the development tools and technology for Doom 4 already exist and will not need to be crafted in tandem with the game.

Doom 4 will 'show id's potential'

 

Bethesda's Pete Hines has claimed that Doom 4 will "show the world id's true potential" when it finally hits shelves.

Very little is known about the FPS sequel currently. CVG revealed last year that fantasy author Graham Joyce is penning the story of the title - but no release date or screens have been released by Bethesda.

More details of the game are expected to be revealed at QuakeCon in August.

"id Software brings a wealth of experience and expertise in the first person shooter genre," Bethesda marketing boss Hines told industry magazine MCV this week.

"To have a group like id working as an internal studio for Bethesda is a tremendous advantage.

"I think what they're working on with RAGE and Doom 4 is going to show the world their true potential."

Expect DOOM 4 to come sooner then RAGE, says Carmack

 

id Software technical guru John Carmack has told OPM UK anyone expecting to wait a long time for DOOM 4 will have a shorter wait then first thought.

Carmack told the mag the shooter shouldn’t take as long to get out the door, unlike RAGE, which was announced in 2007 at QuakeCon, and won’t be out until next year, producer Tim Willits told VG247 back in May.

Well we’ve got Doom 4 going on right now below our feet here,” he said.

The Doom team are all sped up and working on this technology base – I’m not really at liberty to discuss much about it, but it’s going full steam ahead right now.

He adds: “It shouldn’t take as long to ship as Rage. It’s already in the pipeline and we feel good about it.”
