Συγνώμη, αλλά κάνουν δωρεά 100k$ τον χρόνο στο Apache Software Foundation που ουσιαστικά βγάζει τον Apache Server?

Το έλεγα εγώ... μετά τα vista θα δούμε πολλά...

Chip manufacturer Intel wants to use parts of the Fedora Project Linux distribution instead of Ubuntu as the basis for the second version of Moblin (Mobile & Internet Linux Project). News of the switch was announced at the O'Reilly Open Source Convention (OSCON) currently underway in Portland, Oregon and reported in The Register and Phoronix. At OSCON, Dirk Hohndel, Intel's Director of Linux and Open Source Strategy, outlined details of the next version of Moblin in a presentation. Intel aims to introduce its first pre-release during the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) to be held in San Francisco from 19-21 August.

Survey: Economy Pushing Users to Open Source

Sartorio said the survey also showed that open-source companies are serious about collaboration. Nearly all respondents — 97 percent — said they have active partnerships with other open-source software and services companies. In addition, the average survey participant had 10 such partnerships, he said.

“We knew that collaboration was important to open source companies, but this statistic was surprising,” he said.

The survey also showed that nearly 85 percent of the companies polled said they sell open-source products or services that run on Microsoft Windows or otherwise interoperate with Microsoft products.

“Microsoft is an important partner to numerous open-source companies and will continue to be more so moving forward,” said Anthony Gold, vice president and general manager for the open-source business at Unisys and an OSA board member. “Enterprises need to maximize their IT resources and many realize that a hybrid Microsoft-open source environment can be the best option for their requirements."

'Which Linux distro do you use? '

LT:

'I've used different distributions over the years. Right now I happen to use Fedora 9 on most of the computers I have, which really boils down to the fact that Fedora had fairly good support for PowerPC back when I used that, so I grew used to it. But I actually don't care too much about the distribution, as long as it makes it easy to install and keep reasonably up-to-date. I care about the kernel and a few programs, and the set of programs I really care about is actually fairly small.

(update 27 Jul 2008: Further Foxconn fun from Matthew Garrett explains the situation in detail. No intentional breakage of Linux here.)

This Ubuntu Forums thread got picked up by Slashdot and others. One Foxconn motherboard, not advertised with Linux support, has ACPI that doesn't work under the poster's version of Linux.

So, no Linux support, no mention of Linux in the ACPI tables, right? No, the Linux entry points to broken data.

Check the Slashdot thread. Foxconn are witches! Burn them! Remember the Bill Gates ACPI memo!

Maybe not exactly.

Did Foxconn actually break ACPI? Maybe what they have on the board really did work at some point— possibly with an earlier board or an earlier release of Linux—and they just didn't test it with the right hardware and a newer Linux.

We are pleased to announce Atheros has released ath9k to the community. This driver is aimed at inclusion to the Linux kernel and supports all Atheros IEEE 802.11n devices. This represents a major shift in terms of support from Atheros with respect to Linux. The ath9k driver comes shortly after Atheros hired two key Linux wireless developers -- Luis Rodriguez and Jouni Malinen.

We have been informed Atheros does plan to add access point support to ath9k and to work with the community to enhance and complete access point support in the Linux kernel. It is understood there is plenty of work required on the wireless stack to complete full access point support. Jouni Malinen will help drive this process within the community while Luis helps enhance regulatory compliance in the Linux kernel.

We are eager to work with Atheros with ath9k and applaud their efforts for properly supporting Linux.

The ath9k driver includes supports for the following chipsets:

AR5418+AR5133

AR5416+AR5133

AR5416+AR2133

AR9160

AR9280

AR9281
