Midway's Wheelman Delivers Diesel on February 16

 

Midway Newcastle's Vin Diesel-starring driving-action game Wheelman will hit PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on February 16, 2009, Midway announced today.

 

Originally slated to arrive in 2007, the oft-delayed open-world effort was co-produced by "action-film megastar" Diesel, with his production company, Tigon Studios, said to have worked on the game "in close partnership" with Midway Newcastle.

 

Both Tigon and Midway expect an eventual feature film, with a script in development.

 

"This is not just another run-of-the-mill, licensed Hollywood knock-off," asserted Midway CEO Matt Booty. "Wheelman features revolutionary new game design mechanics like cinematic super moves and vehicular combat. Once you experience Wheelman's Vehicle Melee, you'll never want to play another driving game without it!"

Wheelman Modified To Be More Like Grand Theft Auto IV

 

Vin Diesel's big-budget Wheelman game had to be modified following Grand Theft Auto IV's release to appease focus-testers who preferred Rockstar's road car racing model:

 

"Our game was already quite different, but GTA 4 moved the bar in terms of what people expected from an open-world driving game," said Woodroffe. "Before GTA 4, open-world driving games generally had more accessible, more arcade-like, handling. Even the previous GTAs were like that. But GTA IV moved the bar towards realism - even super-realism, you know?

 

"At first I found it fairly frustrating, in comparison with Wheelman, but it was different enough to make us say, 'Look, people obviously want a more realistic experience. They don't want to be given things for free'. They want to feel like the ultimate driving hero, but they don't want to feel like they're being given it for nothing - otherwise there's no sense of accomplishment," Woodroffe explained. "We started to get feedback from our focus testers, within weeks of GTA 4 coming out, that the basic driving was dropping in popularity. It had gone from being the most highly rated element, to one of the lowest on the list. And I'm looking at this and thinking, "There's only one reason for this. GTA 4 has changed gamers' expectations"."

 

Woodroffe now feels that Wheelman has been adapted based on feedback from testers and is "right on the money in terms of what people expect from an open-world racer."

Wheelman gets worldwide release date

 

Midway has confirmed that Vin Diesel game, Wheelman will be released on March 20.

 

The game promises to combine “spectacular Hollywood-style stunts with a gripping storyline” and provide “an adrenaline-fueled, cinematic thrill ride guaranteed to leave you breathless. Weave in and out of traffic, engaging in intense vehicular warfare through the winding streets of Barcelona.”

 

News broke this morning that the game has been delayed amonth and this announcement confirms it.

Ubisoft Now Co-publishing Midway's Wheelman

 

As Midway's spiral into bankruptcy continues, Ubisoft has announced that it will be handling the sales, marketing and distribution of Wheelman in most major markets.

 

In development at Midway's Newcastle studio, the driving-action game starring "action-film megastar" Vin Diesel will hit PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on March 24. Previously, Midway was set to handle all publishing duties for the title.

 

An Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 demo of Wheelman is expected before its release.

 

Specifically, Ubisoft will be responsible for the game's sales, marketing and distribution in North America, South America, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Ireland and the United Kingdom. Under the deal, Midway retains its future rights to the franchise, and the ability to sell the game in all other European territories.

Το παιχνίδι έχει βγει ήδη, και μπορείς να το βρεις σε όλες τις ενημερωμένες ιστοσελίδες.

 

Ωραίο είναι, full arcade και mindless fun. Σίγουρα δε θα κάνει και πολλές πωλήσεις αλλά

είναι διασκεδαστικό αν μη τι άλλο.
