Το topic του VirtualBox

Δημιούργησα αυτό το thread ως χώρο συζήτησης σχετικά με την εφαρμογή virtualization VirtualBox της inotek. Με ενδιαφέρει να δω αν υπάρχει υπολογίσιμη μάζα μελών στο Insomnia που να το χρησιμοποιεί. Αν ναι, θεωρώ πως θα ήταν χρήσιμο για όλους μας να υπάρχει ένα τέτοιο thread όπου θα γίνονται ανακοινώσεις σχετικά με νέες εκδόσεις του και συζήτηση για τις δυνατότητες και τα προβλήματα που αντιμετωπίζουμε στη χρήση του. Γι' αυτό, προσκαλώ όλους όσους ενδιαφέρονται, να ορίσουν παρακολούθηση του thread (επάνω δεξιά γωνία thread --> Εργαλεία Θεμάτων --> Παρακολουθήστε αυτό το θέμα) και να συμμετάσχουν στη συζήτηση.

 

 

Επίσης, υπενθυμίζω την ύπαρξη άρθρου στο Wiki για το VirtualBox : [[VirtualBox HOWTO]]. Εκεί καλύπτεται η εγκατάσταση και ρύθμιση της εφαρμογής σε περιβάλλον Windows. Αρχικά σκόπευα να κάνω το ίδιο και για την non-GPL έκδοση του VirtualBox για Linux, αλλά μετά από τόσον καιρό δεν αξιώθηκα να ασχοληθώ ακόμη. Όποιος ενδιαφέρεται να βοηθήσει στη συντήρηση του άρθρου (μην ξεχνάτε ότι είναι Wiki), παρακαλώ να επικοινωνήσει μαζί μου, είτε αφήνοντας μήνυμα στην Discussion area του άρθρου είτε με p.m.

 

 

Ας κάνω την αρχή λοιπόν, με μία ανακοίνωση για νέα έκδοση. Από προχθές διατίθεται η έκδοση 1.5.6 του VirtualBox, της οποίας το changelog μπορείτε να δείτε εδώ. Από λίγο που έπαιξα με την 1.5.4 σε Windows, έβγαλα το συμπέρασμα ότι ήταν αρκετά βιαστική έκδοση (εμφάνιση μερικών ενοχλητικών νέων bugs). Ελπίζω στη νέα έκδοση να έχει γίνει πιο προσεκτική δουλειά.

Έχω πρόβλημα με το VirtualBox όταν εγκαθιστώ τα windows98/ME

1.Είναι υπερβολικά αργά (δίνω αρκετή μνήμη ΟΚ από εδώ)

2. Μικρή ανάλυση

Τι κάρτα γραφικών πρέπει να εγκαταστήσω ??

Και γενικά τι πρέπει να προσέξω??

 

(Δεν έχω πρόβλημα με WinXP, LINUX)

Εν ολίγοις, δεν υπάρχουν Guest Additions για τα συγκεκριμένα λειτουργικά. Οπότε, η ανάλυση περιορίζεται σε πολύ φτωχά επίπεδα. Ίσως στο μέλλον να βγει κάτι σχετικό, γιατί είναι πολλοί οι χρήστες που επιθυμούν να τρέχουν εικονικές μηχανές με Win9x. Δηλαδή, υπάρχει ζήτηση για την προσθήκη της συγκεκριμένης λειτουργικότητας...

Μήπως με κάποια άλλη εικονική "μηχανή" είναι καλλίτερα ??

Δε θα το έλεγα πρόβλημα, απλά missing feature.

 

Για να το δούμε υπό τη σωστή οπτική γωνία: Τα Guest Additions είναι τρόπον τινά, οι "drivers" που χρειάζεται το Guest Λειτουργικό Σύστημα για να αξιοποιήσει καλύτερα το εικονικό hardware της Virtual Machine που δημιουργεί το VirtualBox. Όπως εγκαθιστούμε drivers για το motherboard chipset, την κάρτα γραφικών και την κάρτα/onboard chip ήχου σε ένα φρεσκοστημένο λειτουργικό σύστημα Windows για να έχουμε τη βέλτιστη απόδοση, το ίδιο θα έπρεπε να κάνουμε και όταν έχει στηθεί εντός μίας VM. Απλώς, μέχρι τώρα τα Guest Additions που έχουν δημιουργηθεί αφορούν τα πιο διαδεδομένα Λ/Σ (Windows XP, Linux, MacOS). Βέβαια, ένας από τους λόγους που διαδίδεται το Virtualization ως πρακτική είναι ότι δίνει τη δυνατότητα να τρέχουμε και legacy Λ/Σ και εφαρμογές σε σύγχρονα περιβάλλοντα που δεν τις υποστηρίζουν εγγενώς. Γι' αυτό, πιστεύω πως σύντομα θα υπάρξει σχετική υποστήριξη και στο VirtualBox.

 

 

To VMware έχει τα VMware Tools (το αντίστοιχο των Guest Additions του VirtualBox) που υποστηρίζουν παλιές εκδόσεις Windows (μέχρι και Win95 αν θυμάμαι καλά)...

Ευχαριστώ φίλε μου ... κατέβασα drivers για την κάρτα γραφικών των εικονικών λειτουργικών ... τώρα είμαι στα 800χ600-16 χρώματα είναι τουλάχιστον καλλίτερο από το 640χ480 ..

Από μία γρήγορη ματιά: Μειωμένο memory footprint και CPU usage έχω δει ως τώρα, τα οποία φυσικά είναι ευπρόσδεκτα. Πέρασα ένα Ουμπουντάκι 8.04 σε μία εικονική μηχανή με 512MB RAM-16ΜΒ VGA και πηγαίνει πραγματικά «σφαίρα»!

Μονότερμα το έχεις πάρει το thread φίλε Parsifal!

Εγώ χρησιμοποιώ το virtualbox στην έκδοση για linux (kubuntu) και είμαι απόλυτα ευχαριστημένος, εκτός απο το γεγονός οτι δεν υποστηρίζει (ακόμα) 3D rendering.

Επίσης είναι αρκετά δύσκολη και χρονοβόρα η μετατροπή απο ένα virtual machine image σε virtual box image με αμφίβολα αποτελέσματα.

Χε χε, ναι όντως! Μόνος μου τα λέω, μόνος μου τ' ακούω!

 

Για 3D, απ' όσο ξέρω μόνο το VMware εξομοιώνει virtual VGA adapter με τέτοιες δυνατότητες. Μάλιστα, σε Windows guests παίζουν κανονικά DX8 games!

 

 

Και μιας και γύρισε το thread σε «κουβέντα mode» που είχε καιρό , ας εφιστήσω την προσοχή σε όσους θέλουν να τρέξουν Linux guests ότι υπάρχει κάποιο πρόβλημα με τους kernels σειράς 2.6.26, που δίνει "OOPS" error στον πυρήνα και αδυναμία να ολοκληρωθεί σωστά το boot.

εβαλα προσφατα το virtualbox και εγκατεστησα εικονικα το Ubuntu 8.10,

εχω τα εξης προβληματα

 

1.δεν μπορω να βλεπω το ubuntu σε πληρη οθονη.ακομα και οταν παω machine-->full screen δεν μου το δειχνει σε full αλλα απλα βγαζει γυρω απο το παραθυρο ενα μεγαλο μαυρο περιγραμμα

 

2.δεν μπορω να συνδεθω στο ιντερνετ μεσα απο το ubuntu.

(δεν ξερω αν φταιει το ubuntu η το virtualbox..)

μηπως ξερει κανεις τι ρυθμισεις χρειαζονται?
