Oh, one cannot neglect future masterpieces like Monkeyz and Dinoz. And there is something about yachts as well (hopefully, a yacht racing title, I have always wanted to race yachts).2) Sega is publishing an action-RPG called The Dark Brotherhood from a Western developer. 3) Codemasters is publishing a Hollywood simulation akin to the The Movies. 4) BioWare's Sonic Chronicles is easily the most inspired game in the Sonic franchise in years and is the best since Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast. 5) Majesco has a musical title called Major Minor's Majestic March that more Mad Maestro than Guitar Hero. Also, according to some guy who was on BBC World News America, suburbs tend to be more suburban. I cannot confirm this, it seems a little ridiculous. http://softrockhallelujah.blogspot.com/2008/01/january-eight-things.html

I do know that there was a big to-do about the 7 out of 10 that 1up. com, the web side of EGM, gave Assassinʼs Creed. Are the two related? Who knows. What I do know for sure is that these stories need to come to the surface. People need to know that this stuff exists. The back patting, swag toting culture of the video game industry is only going to get worse with gaming company consolidation. http://sarcasticgamer.com/wp/index.php/2008/01/quid-pro-quo-broken-sony-midway-and-ubisoft-retaliate-against-egm.html

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz, Wada noted that the Japanese market is currently quite weak when it comes to games for core gamers, whereas the Eurppean and American markets are growing at enormous speed for core games. While eyeing the western market, he recognised that regarding Europe as just one block could lead to fatal mistakes. "Each country in Europe can be different in two things. Firstly, cultural background: for example in France, Japanese animation and manga are very popular, therefore they have a cultural background where overtly Japanese character design is highly appreciated," he said. "Secondly, we have to consider their views on technology in general: how the people of a particular country regard networked systems, and if they're prepared to look at it as a means of fun." Yoichi Wada acknowledged that other large Japanese publishers are targeting western markets very aggressively - acquiring and establishing western studios and signing western games. "We would like to develop a strategy to equal the moves made by Sega and Capcom, or maybe exceed them," he said. "Mergers and acquisitions is not necessarily our main method, but obviously it has to be deemed as one of the main strategy options. If we were to look for a place in the top three in the global games industry, obviously we would have to consider it seriously." The entire interview with Yoichi Wada can be read here.

He said that they are likely to have highly specific customization requests that depend on the work loads they anticipate for games of the future. How many microprocessor threads will they need? How many operations per pixel on the graphics side? Will they target 1080p resolution? Will they want graphics and CPU on a single chip to save costs? Those are questions that Koduri said the console designers are grappling with. This time, Koduri said, the console makers may want a more consistent programming model. That means that the same kind of software could run on everything from a handheld game system to a high-end console. Thatʼs what AMD is offering. But itʼs still a long way off before we really find out whatʼs going on with the next generation systems.

Racing and fighting on motorcycles, the joys of Road Rash, a classic EA franchise that goes back to the days of the Sega Genesis. EA has revealed that they've been thinking a lot about the property lately. As part of a special feature called 10 Questions in which we solicit our readers to send in their best questions for top game industry luminaries, Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello revealed that the publisher's old Road Rash franchise remains very much on the company's collective mind. Although he certainly did not confirm that EA is working on a new installment in the motorcycle racing video game series, his comments suggested that it's a very real possibility for the future. "We think about [our old] franchises a lot. Road Rash is one that keeps coming up in brainstorming sessions," he noted. The racing genre can be very competitive, but between the Burnout and Need for Speed franchises, EA has certainly proven its ability to be successful in this area of the video game market. It'll be interesting to see what these brainstorming sessions ultimately produce.
