Athlon XP or PIV? Athlon XP! Well it worked for me.

Ive been so confused reading hundreds of posts by you people and i can finally say that i have reached to a conclusion!

Please dont try any mind tricks on me any more!

Here is what i thought last night...

 

Price,

 

Athlon XP:

 

CPU: 1800+ will cost 200CHF

MOBO: 200CHF (dont ask the brand, more or less thats the average price)

RAM: (since both systems will have DDR, we dont take this price into consideration)

 

Total: 400CHF

 

PIV:

 

CPU: 1.6A , 240CHF

MOBO: 260CHF (same applies here)

 

Total: 500CHF

 

Now, i am buying the pIV with the potential to o/c at 2.2Ghz (something that most likely, anyone can achieve with normal methods).

That will mean that will outperfom the 1800+ for sure (but thats with 100CHF more PLUS the RISK that the cpu WILL NOT O/C!)

Now, since i am WILLING to give the additional 100CHF to a pIV system, why not give these and buy a 2000+ which WILL be more or less as fast as the 2.2Ghz PIV and it WILL RUN at DEFAULT speed and there is NO RISK involved.

Fair enough, the Athlon XP will have a HIGHER temperature than the PIV, but i am not going to hold it in my hands!What difference does it make to me, if i have the PIV running at 40C (for example) while my Athlon XP is at 50C?

 

I can say for sure that the latest model of PIV IT IS FASTER that the latest Athlon XP, but at the entry level that we are discussing here (and that most of the people will go for), its a different story.

 

I am not starting another VS here.I am just posting MY way of thinking.Plus, i thought that this could be useful for other people that are confused with that issue!
