Thoroughbred comes soon

... also for the Desktop range. In order to become more accurate: on 2 May 2002. To this date AMD will present its new Athlon XP processors on basis of the Thoroughbred core, which will replace over the XP processor briefly or long with Palomino core. The substantial differences of the two CPUs by the bank from that on 0.13΅m production technology shrunk will be based. Mainly by this Shrink an increase of the material clock frequencies is made possible, with lower capacity of the CPUs. Here a short overview which us will expect:

Athlon XP Material clock [ MHz ] Core tension [ V ] Manufacturing [ ΅m ] max. Capacity [ W ] max. Core temperature [ °C ]

1800+ 1533 1.60 0.13 56,9 90

1900+ 1600 1.60 0.13 58,6 90

2000+ 1667 1.60 0.13 60,3 90

2100+ 1733 1.60 0.13 62,1 90

2200+ 1800 1.65 0.13 67,9 85

Thus AMD will enter with the Thoroughbred with a Athlon XP 1800+ and/or a material clock of 1533 MHz and with the conception of the new Desktop of processor the highest model with the XP 2200+, with material 1800 MHz clock will offer.

Ursrpruengliche planning assumed that all Thoroughbred CPUs will offer core a tension of 1.65V, this were however obviously somewhat downward corrected. Only the processor, which will begin 2200+, maximumclocked with the Launch, with 1.65V. At the same time AMD lowers the maximum core temperature on 85°C with this model.

The capacity is naturally with this model most highly, however here quite still air seems to upward lie. AMD will turn probably still in this year further at the clock screw and the more highly clocked Thoroughbred CPUs with 1867 and 2000 MHz will present.

During same core tension of 1.65V, these the accurately identical capacities are certified by 67,9W. Compared with the present front runner of the XP processors on Palomino core, the capacity thereby lies still with 2.1W lower. One wants to resume the Thoroughbred core up to a Athlon XP 3000+, before to the next core generation one transfers.

This is very good news, I just hope its true ! Good too hear T-breds will scale right up too XP3000 (2.23mhz) This should mean overclockers should be able too hit higher frequencies

shame the XP2200 has too be 1.65v, but everything under is 1.6volts which should be quite alot cooler then current hot Athlon XPs.
