Ωραία γραφικά αλλά το σύστημα μάχης μου φάνηκε κάπως μουφέ. Αυτό πάντως ΔΕΝ ΕΙΝΑΙ το Splinter Cell που αγαπήσαμε όλοι

Splinter Cell Conviction "back to the drawing board"

Splinter Cell Conviction has been taken "back to the drawing board" by Ubisoft Montreal.

That's according to a report in the latest Xbox World 360 mag. Though Ubisoft isn't saying anything, the mag says it's heard that the surprising development decision has forced Splinter Cell back into the festive period of 2009 - or as late as Spring 2010.

Conviction has been in development for some years now, surfacing early last year with combat involving dynamic scenery and crowd stealth gameplay that focused on mixing in with the public in Washington DC - a bit like Assassin's.

According to XBW, it's likely that the decision was made after Conviction was outdated by more recent gaming developments - most notably Ubisoft's own Assassin's Creed.

Ubisoft's UbiDays event is due to take place in Paris next week, so hopefully we'll get an official word then.

Ubisoft denies Conviction redesign

Ubisoft has dismissed rumours that Splinter Cell Conviction is heading back to the drawing board as speculation.

The publisher was responding to a report in Xbox World 360 magazine that claimed the game was being redesigned because it wasn't groundbreaking enough, and had even been outdated by Ubisoft titles such as Assassin's Creed.

The rumours suggested that Conviction would go back into development and be given a fresh release date of Christmas 2009 - or even spring 2010.

Not so, said Ubsioft, telling Eurogamer the report is "pure speculation".

Splinter Cell Conviction was revealed last year at the Paris-based publisher event UbiDays. The 2008 show takes place next week.

The fifth instalment in the sneaky Sam Fisher series does away with all the gadgets and casts you in a fugitive role where you will have to use your surroundings to survive: blend with crowds, throw tables at ice creams at people, that sort of thing.

It hasn't been seen for a while, now, but pop over to our Splinter Cell Conviction gamepage for all of the information to date.

Splinter Cell Conviction Has "Evolved"

So Ubisoft held a big press day last week, and showed off everything the company had up their sleeve, good and bad. Oh, sorry, almost everything. They didn't show Splinter Cell Conviction, which got people talking. Got people worried the game mightn't be in the best of health. Especially since Ubisoft would only say they were "not ready to be more specific" about the title. But it's (probably) OK! The development team have since posted on the game's official boards, saying:

Hi guys,

It's been a while since our last message but we're happy to say that development of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Conviction is continuing well and the game is shaping up nicely. The team here is very dedicated and focused to making sure that Conviction turns into an amazing experience of Splinter Cell.

There are lots of rumours flying around right now about Conviction's development status and we can tell you that the gameplay has evolved, similar to what happens in every game's development process, and you won't be disappointed. We take your feedback from these forums very seriously and, although we can't respond to each and every thing people say, we do take these posts into consideration when making the game.

Unfortunately we're not able to make Ubidays this year but in the forthcoming months we'll be back in touch to begin showing you this new installment of the Splinter Cell series.

Splinter Cell: Conviction Delayed

When Ubisoft didn't show Splinter Cell: Conviction at its last event, people worried a little about how the game might be doing. Fear not — the game's doing great. So great, they say, that Ubisoft just decided it'd be better off releasing it as part of its "2009-2010" lineup instead of in this year's fiscal fourth quarter. You know, to "bolster" next year, as the company said in its fiscal first quarter results statement.

Signs at Ubidays seemed to suggest that the game was undergoing a reworking, though Ubisoft's reps were specifically vague on details. We also heard that a "way too egotistical" Michael Ironside would no longer be returning as the voice of Sam Fisher.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot elaborated a bit during the company's call to investors:

"We can give him a little bit more time to make sure it can become a huge product," Guillemot said.

Later, he added, "The way we build our [fiscal guidance] plan is always in having a certain number of products... that will not be automatically in the year. It was one of the products that was in what we call the 'risky products'... it's one product that is now leaving to another year, but it doesn't change our plans."

Guillemot defined "risky" as a title for which the company expected high returns, but for which research and development costs are also higher than with other titles.

Splinter Cell: Convictionʼs new “visual direction is simply much better”

Splinter Cell: Conviction community development manager, Chris Easton, has told Videogaming247 today that not only is work on the game well under way, but that the “visual direction is simply much better” than what weʼve seen so far.

“Splinter Cell Conviction is certainly not canned, despite what the Internet rumour mill says, and wonʼt look significantly different to what youʼve seen before,” he said.

“The gameplayʼs evolved a lot but the visual direction is simply much better than what youʼve seen.”

Easton added: “The gameplay has evolved from what we showed at Ubidays last year and when you see it again itʼll be worth the wait.”

Coloured us intrigued. No date as yet.

IGN - Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction Wishlist

Our thoughts on how to bring Sam Fisher back from the ashes.

Splinter Cell 5, or Splinter Cell: Conviction as it is technically still known, has been in development for some time with original information dating back to September 2006. The game has gone completely dark over the last year (and then some) but Ubisoft recently said that the game is indeed still in development but in an entirely new form. They haven't gone into anything remotely resembling specifics, so that leaves the door open to any number of possibilities. We put our thinking caps on and hammered out a few ideas that we'd like to see implemented into Splinter Cell 5, or whatever the final name happens to be...
