A kill gets you 2 points, a headshot gets you 3 and an assist (wound them but someone else kills them) 1. You'll unlock new ranks, skins for your character and new weapons. The system is implemented so they add can additional unlocks that come with patches. - In both single and multiplayer there are hardpoints. Points on the map that give you a specific advantage over the enemy. An example that was given: A radio that calls in an airstrike, capture it and a helicopter will appear and attack the enemy with its rockets and machineguns. After the attack the hard point goes neutral again. - A new gametype, Realism-Mode. Grant Collier says the mod community had implemented this into the previous titles and now they'll add one themselves. In this realism mode you die from one shot. - There will be vehicles in singleplayer, but not in multiplayer. We ask Grant if you could drive vehicles in multiplayer. Grant Collier: ''No, we want to keep the maps small, so there will be always intense action. If we made maps bigger so they could include vehicles, they'd become less interesting for infantry combat, and that's what we want to focus on. In singleplayer however, you will get to use vehicles. There's one mission on which you get to be a gunner in a Cobra assault helicopter, and inflict some serious damage on the enemy below you. These kind of levels provide some welcome variety from the intense infantry missions.''

There are a number of huge trends in modern videogames, and two of the biggest are undoubtedly sandbox gameplay and the move towards fully destructible environments. In a recent interview with IGN AU, however, Grant Collier, the Studio Head of Infinity Ward - the development team behind the massively successful titles Call of Duty 1 and 2, as well as the upcoming Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - told us that they're not sold on either trend: "everyone right now is demanding sandbox gameplay and total destructibility. We personally don't think that it's that fun, I mean, 'go anywhere! Do anything!' That's just - I think it's a buzzword, it's a badge, it's a bullet-point option… And total destructibility, you can really ruin the gameplay. There's so many spectacular moments that you have when you funnel the action into certain corridors… So I think right now it's a fad, and the fad will pass, we're not going to be bite on in it - we want the game to be fun first, and destructibility comes second." While this seems at odds with any number of next-gen games in development, in many ways it's refreshing to see Infinity Ward staying focused on what it does best - tight, fast-paced cinematic action. Collier also commented on the fact that there will be no PC/360 multiplayer interoperability in Call of Duty 4, saying that the team's response to the Live Anywhere proposal was simply to say "no way".
