Braveheart1980 Δημοσ. 29 Νοεμβρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 29 Νοεμβρίου 2006 Ecco, Golden Axe now on Wii VC Sega Genesis classics are available for download via the next-gen console's online store. By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot Posted Nov 28, 2006 2:29 pm PT Nintendo promised that it would add to the roster of Virtual Console titles for the Wii every Monday, and delivered on that promise this week with Super Star Soldier. Now, it appears that VC releases aren't relegated to just one day of the week. Two more titles were made available on the Virtual Console today, as Sega released its Genesis games Golden Axe and Ecco the Dolphin on the service. Time to party like it's 1989! Golden Axe is a one- or two-player fantasy action game that pits gamers against the evil Death Adder as a fighter, an amazon, or a dwarf. When the game was released in 1989, one of its hooks was the option to fight mounted on creatures, including fire-breathing dragons and a bird-beaked beast that whipped enemies with its tail. (A remake of the game is currently being readied for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.) Originally released in 1993, Ecco the Dolphin is a single-player adventure game that casts gamers as the titular porpoise on a quest to find his lost friends. Along the way, Ecco must use his sonar to communicate with other creatures while exploring levels and making sure he doesn't run out of health or air. Both games sell for 800 Wii points ($8) and have been rated E for Everyone. The pair is playable with the Wii Remote, the classic controller, or a GameCube controller. Wii Remote range (unbelievable!! ) Nintendo SuperFan Nintendo Wiiʼs Phenomenal Sales Filed under: Nintendo Nintendo Wii After only eight days after the official launch, Nintendo has succeeded in selling more than 600,000 units of the Nintendo Wii! Because of these phenomenal sales, the Japanese company Nintendo is just about $190 million richer. And take note that this figure is only the sales made in America alone. You can just think that the ratio of the sales which is one sale per second in the eight days span! But it seems the people still havenʼt got their fill of the console yet because the demand is showing no signs of slowing down. It is still hard to find the Wii console sitting idly on any store counter. This game console is definitely a must-have especially as the holidays is drawing near. Together with the game consoles was the excellent sales made from the console games like The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. 75% out of the 600,000 new owners of the Nintendo Wii also bought this particular game and that makes it approximately 454,000 copies sold. Gamersʼ enjoyment wonʼt have to stop there because even as write this, the people behind the games are working to give them more of the new gaming experience. Super Star Soldier hits Wii Scrolling TurboGrafx-16 shooter arrives on Nintendo's new system by way of the Virtual Console. By Brendan Sinclair, GameSpot Posted Nov 28, 2006 9:41 am PT Before the Wii arrived in stores last week, Nintendo said it would add new titles to its Virtual Console downloadable game service each Monday following the launch. Yesterday one new title arrived on the Virtual Console, the 1990 TurboGrafx-16 shooter Super Star Soldier. A vertically scrolling sci-fi shoot-'em-up, Super Star Soldier is being offered for 600 Wii points ($6). Developed by Hudson, the game offers players a number of genre staples, including spread cannon, flame thrower, and electricity gun power-ups, as well as homing missiles and satellite ships to absorb stray enemy fire. Super Star Soldier brings the number of Virtual Console games available to 15, with a total of 30 expected to be up on the service by the end of the year. The game is rated E for Everyone. Ars Technica review: Nintendo Wii Tuesday, November 28, 2006 - 11:10 AM EST "With the Xbox 360 and the PS3, the primary focus is graphical prowess," Ben Kuchera reports for Ars Technica. "In many cases these new games feel a lot like old games with a new coat of paint. One might begin to wonder if we are going to see the same basic gaming concepts over and over, simply with better graphics as time goes on?" Kuchera reports, "Nintendo is saying no; they are dropping out of the graphics race. Fact is, the Wii is not very powerful in relation to its two competitors. Where it can fight back is innovation; instead of a normal controller, you interact with the game via a remote control-like device that many simply call the 'Wiimote.' In-game movements are based on, well, real-life movement—and one or two buttons. This control scheme is designed to be intuitive and to really immerse you in what you're doing." Kuchera reports, "You're going to have to learn a whole new way to think about games. When it comes to the Wii, we're all newbies, and while that may make some hardcore gamers uncomfortable, it's a revelation for new gamers who finally have something they can pick up and figure out instead of feeling like they couldn't compete without years of practice. The graphics are underwhelming, sure, but that Wiimote is a brand new way to play your games." "While I've played some great games this year, I don't know if I've had as much fun with any of them as I do with the Wii. It was hard to keep from smiling as I played. It makes me feel like a kid again, and if you're a kid, you'll be entranced. This may be that magical system that's going to interest your non-gamer parents, girlfriend, or wife—people who never thought they could pick up and control a video game," Kuchera reports. "The Wiimote has nearly unlimited potential, and while we've seen some novel uses of it so far, I can't wait to see what talented developers will come up with in the next few years." Full, very comprehensive as usual from Ars, review here. YΓ guys kseroume apo tora ti demos tha exei to event? Braveheart1980 Δημοσ. 29 Νοεμβρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 29 Νοεμβρίου 2006 Matt Casamassina has a Wii secrett (Look who Casamassina is here) Matt of IGN Sometime during the next month, I will be playing a Wii game from a major publisher that none of you have any idea exists."Sometime during the next month, I will be playing a Wii game from a major publisher that none of you have any idea exists," teased IGN's Matt Casamassina on SR388 Sanctuary. Even though Mr. Casamassina forces me to Google his name every time I mention him in article, his word is usually gold on this sort of thing. What is the secret game? Sadness? Your guess is as good as mine. Another reason I heart Matt is that he's honest, even when it comes to throwing a compliment in Microsoft's direction. I also have to hand it to Microsoft because Xbox 360's holiday lineup is really quite impressive. I don't think there's any question that between 360 and Wii, PS3 is the big loser... for now. I have no doubt Sony will change that come next year, or at least give it a very good shot, but damn, I'm not at all impressed with its launch. Okay, perhaps it's more of a backhanded dis of Sony. And Xbox 360 does have a pretty nice lineup at the moment; it's not even really debatable anymore. But PS3 certainly is the big loser at this point. It's hard to be taken seriously in the race when you're still stuck in the gate. Reggie on Wii launch, Goldeneye, Mario and more 29 Nov 2006 - Nintendo's American president talks up the successful Wii launch and drops hints at the future. Speaking in a recent interview with MTV, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime spoke about Wii's American launch, denied comparisons to the GameCube's debut and games lineup in 2001, and gave hope to Goldeneye one day appearing for download for the Virtual Console. "Are we feeling good about our success? Do we think we can have more success in the future? Absolutely," began the Regginator. "I do think that highlights a difference between us and our competitors: We're not arrogant. We don't view success as a right. We feel we need to earn success every day. And we're going to do that by being true to the gamer. We're looking at this as about eight days into the mission." Fils-Aime continued, by adding that as well as Zelda, specifically Rayman Raving Rabbids, Red Steel and Trauma Centre: Second Opinion saw great sales success. All regions but the Americas will receive the Wii Play bundle at launch, which includes a reincarnated shooting game, closely replicating Duck Hunt. When it was suggested that the 'Zapper' gun, which was shown at E3 this year, would complement the game, Reggie agreed but said, "We want the right title" to bring it to market with. Much of the GameCube's lack of success is attributed to its poor lineup of games initially following launch, and Fils-Aime disagreed that Wii would go the same way. "I wasn't here for the GameCube launch, but there was a time period when there were no titles," he said. "There wasn't even titles you could or could not sink your teeth into. 'Wii Play' and 'WarioWare' are going to be hugely fun titles." Beyond those two, Nintendo will only publish Mario Party 8 before March 2007 in North America. Two games which are hot on the must-have list are Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Galaxy. Fils-Aime said, "Of the next batch of Nintendo releases, 'Metroid' is going to be next on that list," he said. As for Mario, Reggie said to expect him to make his Wii debut between March and next Christmas. When asked about the possibility of the DVD-enabled Wii coming to the US in the near future, Fils-Aime said, "The answer is no." He was also asked whether third parties are able to implement Mii caricatures into their games yet, confirming that they are, but adding, "Is there anything I've seen? No." In regards to Wii's online Virtual Console service and the hugely-popular Nintendo 64 game Goldeneye making an appearance, Reggie said the situation is difficult. "Would I love to see it on virtual console? Absolutely. But there are a lot of issues there. Suffice it to say we would love to see it, so we're exploring all the rights issues." But for playing games online, Fils-Aime said, "For the consumer who is saying, 'Gosh, when is Nintendo going to get on board with online play?' The answer is very early in 2007." The WiiConnect24 service is something that will gain increased focus from Nintendo too, and speaking on the topic of the unique, always-on function, Reggie said, "Is there activity that we're working on for before the holidays? The answer is yes." But in terms of exactly what, he added, "I'd hate to ruin the surprise." Finally, Fils-Aime said to expect some new announcements regarding Wii's future in early 2007. Getting Everybody Back in the Game A baseball game for Nintendoʼs Wii system, which was released this week with a $249 price tag. Article Tools Sponsored By By SETH SCHIESEL Published: November 24, 2006 Judging by sheer silicon horsepower, the Nintendo Wii is the least powerful of the new generation of video game systems. But for many people it will be the most fun, and thatʼs what really matters. Skip to next paragraph The main controller for Nintendoʼs new game system, the Wii. Unlike Microsoftʼs Xbox 360 and Sonyʼs PlayStation 3, the Wii does not produce eyepopping high-definition graphics. Unlike its brawnier and more expensive brethren, it does not feature an extensive online service built around multiplayer gaming. Unlike the 360 and the PS3, the Wii isnʼt trying to be the most advanced digital entertainment system out there. Instead, the Wii (pronounced “we,” not “why”) is about rescuing gaming from the clutches of the hard-core young male demographic that has dominated the industryʼs thinking for years. It is about making video games accessible again by providing a simple, intuitive, relatively inexpensive entertainment experience that an entire family can actually enjoy together. At that, the Wii succeeds admirably. So if youʼre a hard-core gamer, the Wii, which was released Sunday with a $249 price tag, almost certainly wonʼt work as your primary system (and you probably knew that already). But if youʼre anyone else — maybe you liked a few games back in college but havenʼt touched one in years, or maybe youʼd like to play with your kids but are intimidated by all those buttons and triggers, or maybe you just want to play casually with friends every so often — it is probably the machine for you. And, oh yeah, if you are a hard-core gamer the Wii can still make a nice change of pace. Iʼve spent more than 25 hours using the Wii over the last two weeks, playing 12 different games, including almost all the titles initially available in North America. The system certainly is not perfect. For example, some of the Wiiʼs Internet services, like news and weather updates, arenʼt functional yet. But over all the system left a big smile on my face. More important, I have already seen the Wii appeal to people who would never pick up an Xbox or PlayStation controller. At Thanksgiving at my auntʼs house in New Jersey, there was my 59-year-old stepfather, who hadnʼt touched a video game since Pong, locked in a tight golf match with my 21-year-old cousin. There was my aunt clamoring for her turn. And most shocking, there was my mother, 61, whom I had been trying to get into video games for two decades, playing tennis so vigorously she bruised her finger. To understand why the Wii works so well, think about how video games have changed over the last 30 years. In the late 1970s and early ʼ80s, back when game machines could be widely found in public places like bars and Laundromats, the games were simple enough for anyone to just walk up and play. They usually had only one joystick and at most three buttons, if that. (Pac-Man famously doesnʼt need buttons at all.) There was almost no intimidation factor. Over the years, that changed. As video gaming largely left the public sphere and became something people do mostly at home, the games became more complex. Most modern video game controllers now have more than a dozen buttons, triggers and sticks. And as the games (and the control schemes used to play them) became more complex, they naturally became more off-putting and alien to the everyday person. Video games became a niche hobby; they were banished to the kidsʼ room in the basement, figuratively and often literally. Nintendo realized years ago that it simply did not have the financial and technical resources to compete with Microsoft and Sony in vying for those hard-core gamers who always want the latest, snazziest graphics, the most realistic physics modeling and all of the other bells and whistles that top-end systems so amply provide. So Nintendo has shrewdly gone in the opposite direction. The Wii is meant to broaden the gaming audience yet again and turn on that broad swath of the population that got turned off by video games over the last two decades. To do that, Nintendo has focused most of its innovation in the Wii on making the controls intuitive and easy to use. The main controller is a cleanly designed cordless unit that is generally held like a television remote, pointing at the screen. The real secret sauce in the Wii is that the user can just tilt and wave the controller to produce action on the screen, rather than having to figure out a lot of complicated button combinations. On most menu screens, you can point the controller (and the little hand on the screen it controls) on the selection you want, like “New Game,” and press one big button. In a tennis game, you wait for the ball to come to you, then swing your arm as if you are, uh, swinging a tennis racket. In the sword-fighting sequences in a game like Red Steel, you swing one arm to control your sword while blocking incoming attacks with the broken blade in the other hand. To play golf, you just swing the controller like a golf club. If you tilt or swing off-line, youʼll hook or slice. Skip to next paragraph For many games in the Wii system, the userʼs body motion controls the action. Perhaps my biggest revelation came playing the Wii version of Madden NFL 07. The Madden franchise is one of the all-time great video game properties, and it has always frustrated me that I am so horrible at it. That is largely because I have not mastered the truly byzantine range of extremely complicated button sequences that have been needed to play the game effectively on traditional game systems like PlayStation and Xbox. (Mastering such sequences and knowing when to use them is known among gamers, quite rightly, as skill.) With Madden on the Wii, yes, I had to figure out some basic buttons to push, but the whole experience was refreshingly intuitive. To hike, jerk the hand up. To throw, make an overhead throwing motion. Do you want to plant a Heisman Trophy-like stiff-arm in that poor defenderʼs grill as you sprint toward the end zone? Just stick out your arm with authority. On the Wii, all of a sudden I was just playing football rather than trying to figure out whether I was supposed to hit the triangle button first or the square. Over all, though, the one game that I thought best encapsulated what the Wii is all about was the delightfully madcap, over-the-top collection of mini-games called Rayman Raving Rabbids. As with the Wii itself, it can be hard to appreciate the emotive visual style of the gameʼs insane toilet-plunger-wielding rabbits and the joy of outrunning, outshooting, outjumping and, best of all, outdancing them until you get it in your hands. And as with the Wii itself, even my mother enjoyed it. Hitwise: Nintendo Wii More Popular Online Than iPod And PS3 Submitted by bill_tancer on November 28, 2006 - 5:24pm. The following is a blog entry from Bill Tancer at Hitwise: The stats are in for the much-hyped Cyber-Monday and compared to Cyber-Monday in 2005, the Hitwise Retail 100 Index is up 13.3% for yesterday (11/27/06). As we've seen for the fourth year running (as represented in the chart below), Thanksgiving Day remains the peak day for retail traffic in market share of visits. Comparing Cyber-Monday 2006 to Thanksgiving Day this year, the index was down 33.87% and down 26.29% compared to Black Friday 2006. One of the theories that we've subscribed to as to why Thanksgiving Day continues to be the busiest day for retail traffic in market share of visits is that consumers use the Internet to research Black Friday sales the day before venturing out to bricks and mortar stores. Indeed, our rankings data reflects that on Thanksgiving Day, Walmart.com and BestBuy.com held the #1 and #2 slot for the Retail 100 Index (the #1 spot is traditionally held by Amazon.com), by Cyber-Monday, Amazon is back in its #1 position. Furthermore, as shown below, on Cyber-Monday six of the top fifteen sites in the Retail 100 Index are online pure-plays versus three on Thanksgiving Day. In other news, weekly search terms driving traffic to the Shopping & Classifieds category indicate that the Nintendo Wii is pulling ahead of Playstation 3, possibly due to the scarcity of Sony's game console.
Braveheart1980 Δημοσ. 29 Νοεμβρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 29 Νοεμβρίου 2006 Red Steel 2 Rumoured 28th Nov 2006, 07:59pm by Sammy Barker. Watch out - Internet forums are in a frenzy because someone translated Ubisoft's website. Oh god. According to a loose translation from Ubisoft France's website the following has been revealed: "Game Designer Senior Production/Development; The Studio of Production of Paris seeks Game Designer for the continuation of the Red Steel project. You will assist the Person in charge Game design for the project: - in the management of ergonomics - in the design of the menus - in the redaction of the documents game system. You will have in load the design and the follow-up at least a key feature of the project." Sorry about the rather cack translation, it's probably bad translation tools like this that caused me to get a C in my French GCSE all those years ago. However, from what we can tell from the translation it seems certain that there may well be some kind of sequel to the Red Steel project. Interestingly in related news Ubisoft recently trademarked the name "Fighting Steel". Hmmm, we'll keep you posted. Shigeru Miyamoto The video-game guru who made it O.K. to play By Will Wright Ask video-game producers which individual has had the most creative impact on this burgeoning art form, and the name you will hear over and over again is Shigeru Miyamoto. Chief game designer for Nintendo, Miyamoto has been called the Walt Disney of electronic gaming. Nintendo grew to become one of the major players in the gaming industry primarily because of a multitude of designs born in the mind of Miyamoto-san. Starting with his first hit, Donkey Kong, and continuing through his megafranchises Super Mario Bros. and Legend of Zelda, Miyamoto, 53, has repeatedly proved himself a master of his craft. Along the way, he has not only created some of our most beloved entertainment experiences, he has also built a modern mythology that captures the joy and wonder of exploring these playful micro-worlds. Miyamoto's body of work is remarkable because he has always remained focused on what actually matters in a game: the player's experience. Other designers may obsess about testing the limits of the hardware; Miyamoto specializes in testing the limits of imagination. His insistence upon simplicity and his appeal to our inner child recognize that play is an important part of being human. It's how we learn. By understanding the nature of play—the activities that we all enjoyed as children but are later taught to eschew as adults—Miyamoto is able to create engrossing games that rekindle very old and yet very satisfying learning experiences in a fresh way. As the industry grows and matures, it is challenging to remain innovative while attracting new players to the fold. Miyamoto's response: change the rules. Nintendo's groundbreaking new game machines—the handheld, dual-screen Nintendo DS and the soon-to-be-released Nintendo Wii, which features a motion-sensing remote control—offer unconventional game play without being complex and intimidating. It's a brilliant approach. Miyamoto remains the industry's pied piper, drawing yet another generation into his world for a little fun.
