19 Νοεμβρίου 2008 MadWorld Interview The team talks about its ultra-violent, super-stylized creation for Wii. MadWorld is definitely one of the most visceral games coming to Wii (or any other platform for that matter) in the next six months, and we've fallen in love with its dedication to over-the-top violence and its stylish black, white and red presentation. We've seen it in action a number of times now, but we still had plenty of unanswered questions. Enter Platinum Games' Atsushi Inaba, Producer on MadWorld, who was kind enough to give us a little more info on the title...
vassilis_pap Δημοσ. Έχουμε και λέμε: Animal Crossing: City Folk Review Closing Comments After putting literally weeks and months into playing both the GameCube original and the Nintendo DS sequel, it was very disappointing to see that, after putting nearly two weeks into Animal Crossing: City Folk that very little effort went into the design beyond porting and enhancing the Nintendo DS game. If you’re entering into Animal Crossing with a fresh, inexperienced take: congratulations. You’ve got yourself a great, casual game with tons of things to see and do. Of the three Animal Crossing games on the market the Wii version is certainly the tops with its sharper visuals and voice-enabled online play. Animal Crossing: City Folk is a good game, but it is not a very good effort as a follow-up or sequel. Its foundation is definitely solid but it doesn’t pay enough respect to the millions of gamers who were involved in making the franchise a successful one. But if you’re ready to do it all over again, Animal Crossing: City Folk keeps up the tradition of making menial tasks a whole lot of fun.
vassilis_pap Δημοσ. 22 Νοεμβρίου 2008 Δημοσ. 22 Νοεμβρίου 2008 Skate It Review Closing Comments Skate It comes highly recommended. The original Skate rejuvenated skating games with a new control scheme and a real sense of freedom, and that success carries over to the Wii. If you already played the 360 or PS3 version you won't find much new here, but it's great to have it on Nintendo's platform. This is a big package, including a long story mode, a huge variety of challenges, multiplayer games, a great soundtrack, and balance board support. It's too bad the balance board controls aren't friendlier, but I'm perfectly happy just using the remote and nunchuk. Aside from the sleek menus it's not much to look at, but the gameplay is engaging enough to overlook the visuals. Scanning your environment, plotting a long line of tricks, then figuring out how to pull it all off is very rewarding. Buy it.
vassilis_pap Δημοσ. 22 Νοεμβρίου 2008 Δημοσ. 22 Νοεμβρίου 2008 Castlevania Judgment Review Closing Comments In the list of games I'm dying to play in the Castlevania series, a 3D fighter was about as far from the top as possible, but Judgment was a pleasant surprise. The combat is deep and entertaining, the characters are well balanced and very unique as a full-on roster, and everything from sub-weapons to specials, combo attacks, in-level traps and monsters, and epic super attack animations are well done and true to the source material. When I first went hands-on with the game it felt like a lacking fighter that had only fan service to bank on. The final product is far from that, being a fun fighter on its own accord, and a game that will do most of the fan base proud despite being such an odd choice for Wii's first Castlevania. There are a few needed fixes in the design, such as the out of control camera and set-in-stone controls (no button-by-button customization), but the end result is a surprisingly fun - and undeniably unique - take on one of Konami's oldest franchises. Hopefully the formula can be refined in the future, and Iga can squeeze another team for a full-on Castlevania offering on Wii that does the original series justice. I'm a fan of Judgment, but as an alternate Castlevania experience on Wii; not the only one.
vassilis_pap Δημοσ. 22 Νοεμβρίου 2008 Δημοσ. 22 Νοεμβρίου 2008 Sonic Unleashed Review Closing Comments Sonic Unleashed is half great game and half tedious gimmick. The daytime levels will amaze you for they harken back to the 2D classics and are positively overrun with raw speed, zigzagging pathways, loop- de-loops and more, all of it complemented by responsive controls and good technology. As far as I'm concerned, these stages are so well crafted, in fact, that die-hard Hedgehog fans can probably justify purchasing the title for the sunlit selection alone. Just resign yourself to trudging through the nighttime stages as penance for the daylight ones. Come on -- if you're a Sonic fan, you should be used to sacrifice and suffering by now, anyway. And if you've never liked Sonic before, the newly implemented werehog component will certainly not make you a believer in the franchise. If anything, you might come to appreciate the traditional levels by comparison. It's a shame, too, because this time more than any other, Sonic Team nearly had it. Indeed, had Unleashed shipped with a focus on polished daytime levels, I have no doubt that it would've been one of the best entrants in the franchise's long history. But the developer's insistence on avoiding a pure hedgehog experience at all costs has once again backfired, transforming a speedy beauty into a slow beast.
vassilis_pap Δημοσ. 22 Νοεμβρίου 2008 Δημοσ. 22 Νοεμβρίου 2008 Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party Review Closing Comments Rabbids TV Party doesn't rewrite the mini-game genre. It's a tried and true third installment in the series that I feel shares more in common with the original than its boring sequel. There are some presentational issues to contend with this time around, including blase 2D cinematics and unnecessary loads. And again, there are some throwaway mini- games included in the package, too. But by and large the selection of titles is good and the comedic style and delivery still genuinely funny, even if it's not particularly fresh now. There's also Balance Board support and a new emphasis on games simultaneously fun for four players. So if you loved any of the Rabbids titles or just want a mostly well-crafted party game, Ubisoft's latest is a suitable choice. At the same time, the novelty powering these mini-game compilations has officially worn out its welcome, especially for Wii owners who have been relentlessly bombarded by titles like TV Party for the last two years. While it's true that Ubisoft's game is better than most, any sense of newness once associated with the franchise has long since been obliterated and this, I think, is worth considering as you decide whether to spend $49 hard-earned bones on another set shallow, surreal me-too challenges.
vassilis_pap Δημοσ. 22 Νοεμβρίου 2008 Δημοσ. 22 Νοεμβρίου 2008 Tomb Raider Underworld Review Closing Comments Tomb Raider: Underworld on the Wii is not a bad game, but it's disappointing for fans of the series. The whole things has been oversimplified and dumbed down. The Wii puzzles are a joke, the combat is almost nonexistent, and the game is pretty short. If the Wii is your only choice for gaming and you've never played a Tomb Raider game then go for it, but fans of the series are going to find an empty tomb here.
kostacurtas Δημοσ. 10 Δεκεμβρίου 2008 Δημοσ. 10 Δεκεμβρίου 2008 Dragon Quest 10 Announced for Wii The tenth installment in Square Enix's famous RPG series set for Wii. RPG fans, you might want to sit down for this one. Square Enix held a surprise press conference in Tokyo on Wednesday and with Nintendo president Satoru Iwata in attendance revealed that the hotly anticipated Dragon Quest 9 will be coming to DS on March 28 in Japan for 5980 yen ($64 USD). By far the bigger news, however, is that that Square Enix and Nintendo announced that Dragon Quest 10 is being developed for Wii. No details on the project were given. According to a live blog by the site Gemaga, DQ creator Yuji Horii took the stage and made the announcement. Afterward, Iwata was quoted as saying, "Thank you very much for announcing Dragon Quest X for Wii." A Reuters story later confirmed the news. The Dragon Quest series is extremely popular in Japan, each update selling millions of copies. This latest announcement is sure to generate continued appeal for Nintendo's already popular console in the homeland.

Citing Nintendo Power, the story notes that the untitled fighter is being developed by Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Team Ninja veterans. More sketchy information has pegged the game as a 2.5D fighter, published by Ubisoft and aimed for a September 2009 release. The supposed feature list appears comparable to Brawl, with story, battle and tournament modes, as well as online multiplayer.
