Jaleco Announces Kizuna for Wii

New action-RPG from the makers of Little King Story.

The latest issue of Famitsu has a first report on Ougon no Kizuna, a new Wii action RPG from Jaleco.

In Ougon no Kizuna, you take control of main character Lian in intense battles that make heavy use of the Wiimote's pointing capabilities. You use the nunchuck to move about, and target enemies by directly pointing with the Wiimote. From there, it's all about mashing buttons for combos and special attacks. The game puts players up against large groups of enemies, as well as massive bosses.

In addition to the main story, which is split into chapters, you'll find over 100 quests to help pass the time. These quests actually appear to be a central part of the game, whose theme revolves around the bonds Lian form with people of the world (the game's title translates to "Golden Bonds").

The title is drawing attention in particular due to some of its staff members. Miwa Shouda, who previously worked on Final Fantasy XII, Saga Frontier, and Legend of Mana, is working on the game's scenario. Yoichi Kawaguchi, of Little King Story and Dragon Quest VIII fame, is serving as director and programmer.

Ougon no Kizuna will hit the Japanese Wii this Winter.

Nintendo Raises Forecasts 26% on Wii, DS Sales

Nintendo raised its profit predictions for the year by a not-insignificant 26 percent, prompting the console maker's stock to surge on the Osaka Securities Exchange.

According to the Nintendo Co., Ltd. report, net income is set to climb 59 percent up to 410 billion yen ($3.8 billion) for the fiscal year ending in March 2009.

Nintendo credits strong sales of the Wii and DS systems for the increase. Nintendo's new estimate for DS sales pegs the system at over 30.5 million worldwide, a healthy increase over the previously estimated 28. The Wii is set to sell 26.5 million units instead of 25 million.

Also credited were strong software sales for both systems and exchange rates more favorable to Japanese companies. The announcement contradicts recent analyst predictions that DS sales were due to fall off, sparking rumors of a new DS.

The company's announcement comes less than a day after rival Sony CEO Howard Stringer confessed that Nintendo's business plan for the Wii "may be superior."

Renegade Kid's Wii Game

Official publisher announced. First details here.

It's no big secret that we're big fans of development studio Renegade Kid, whose first two DS games have really impressed us. The small company is responsible for both Dementium: The Ward and the highly anticipated science-fiction-themed first-person shooter Moon, due out for Nintendo's handheld this November. When we last spoke to studio head Jools Watsham, he said, "Our Wii game will be announced very soon." And he wasn't lying, for today we bring you first details on the project, including its publisher.

Though still without a name, Renegade Kid revealed to IGN that it has signed a deal with publisher Gamecock (which backed Dementium) to bring the mystery title out. "Based on one of the biggest horror icons of all time, the game's name, plot or what systems it will be available for have yet to be revealed," the companies jointly noted in a release given to IGN. (We can take a guess about what system(s) it'll be coming to, by the way.)

Fans expecting a Dementium or Moon-like first-person shooter could be in for a surprise. According to the companies, "The completely new title changes things up from past Renegade Kid projects in terms of gameplay, genre and style."

"Our first venture with Gamecock, Dementium, was an ideal partnership for us," said Jools Watsham, owner and creative director of Renegade Kid. "Our new game has been a 'pet project' of ours for a while now and it not only felt natural but necessary that we team up with Gamecock again. We're really looking forward to working with these talented folks again."

"The exciting thing about working with Renegade Kid, and what we learned the first time around, is that they'll stick to their guns and put everything they have into it," said Harry Miller, El Presidente of Gamecock. "This new title is incredible, and a huge leap forward for them and the genre."

More details on the game are forthcoming, but in the meantime, Renegade Kid has left us with a tantalizing teaser image, which we've provided in this article.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 All-Play Review. Score:8.3

One of the best golf games we've ever played.

Closing Comments

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 All-Play is a tough game to rate because I figure it will probably be the last EA golf outing to ship minus Wii MotionPlus support. There is just so much potential for next year's game -- potential that this year's iteration cannot possibly match. And yet, truth be told, Woods 09 is still excellent in most regards. It looks better. It plays a great deal better thanks to improved swing mechanics that capture that one-to-one sensation. And it's packed full of more content than ever before, including new Wii-exclusive mini-games and a truly fabulous online component. So even if next year's game is bound to be superior, I can't ignore the fact that All-Play 09 is one of the best golf videogames I have ever played. Get it. There's enough replay value in this single project to hold you over until next year's sequel. And while we're all waiting, I'll see you online.

Disaster: Day of Crisis - 78 New Screens, New Info

October launch still being rumoured...

Some rumored information about Disaster: Day of Crisis has come to light based off of the latest screenshots of the game. None of these details are confirmed by Nintendo, though the information below is still somewhat realistic.

- You can set where the radio messages and the gun sound fx comes out from. The screen shows the Radio messages output set to the Wiimote, and the Gun sound fx output set to the Wiimote as well.

- There are items in the game, and you have an inventory. They look like the normal restorative items for health and whatnot.

- The game is stage based and you get a ranking for how well you did at the end of each stage.

- You earn BP from combat and SP from rescuing people (and probably completing various QTE events successfully). BP is used to buy new weapons and upgrade the weapons, while SP is used to improve the character stats.

- You start with 3 basic weapons available - Rifle 1, Handgun 1 and Assault Rifle 1. Each of these are the start of a weapons tree, kinda like a skill tree in RPGs (lol Monolithsoft). You buy more weapons with BP via this tree.

- For weapons you already have, there are 5 areas you can upgrade them in - Power, ammo capacity, reload speed, etc. Upgrading will also cost BP.

The Conduit online co-op being considered, sequel to be started right away, more

This information comes from the latest IGN Nintendo Voice chat. I donʼt have enough time to complete the entire summary, but I thought you guys would be interested in hearing about The Conduit. In the podcast, the IGN Nintendo team were talking to a few of the developers from The Conduit.

- The Conduit is still at pre-alpha, working pretty heavily on multiplayer. About six months of development left to refine and polish. Single-player campaign has a lot done, you can play through the entire game right now. The core is done, working on details. Making sure everything looks and plays as good as it can.

- The Conduit has had full funding all the way through the project, thus High Voltage was not rushing to get a publisher. High Voltage is very close to announcing the publisher for The Conduit, should come in the next month.

- Eric Nofsinger says we should be very excited about their publisher, High Voltage weighed the decision heavily. Itʼs a “larger publisher.” Deal with the publisher included that, when the publisher is announced, High Voltage will still continue to provide the press with coverage concerning The Conduit, will push to start on the sequel right away. High Voltage was very choosey about the publisher for The Conduit.

- If High Voltage couldnʼt do certain things right, they didnʼt include them. Want everything to be high quality. For example, vehicles just couldnʼt be done in the first game, will try to have it the second time around. High Voltage wants to make The Conduit as good an experience as the game can be.

- Pretty much everything is customizable in The Conduit. Movable UI interface should be up soon. Move grenade icons, weapon readouts to wherever you desire on the screen.

- High Voltage has upped the run speed, have been playing around with the analog stick from walk to run. Exploring the option of sprint. Land-locked on buttons, something on High Voltageʼs to-do list.

- Since The Conduit, Eric Nofsinger has been getting a ton of fan email. Hand-written letters with envelope art, too.

- Have been working on LAN play with Nintendo. Havenʼt gotten final approval yet, so nothing official. It is functioning in-house. High Voltage is excited about this as an option. High Voltage has had 12 player LAN play hooked up so far, will support 16 players on release.

- Online mode: Standard deathmatch, team deathmatch, CTF. Depending on how long some of these things take, but High Voltage is interested in adding more modes.

- So far, High Voltage has tested with about 13 people, hoping to test with 16 soon. Frame-rate held up really tightly during gameplay. No significant lag. Goal is to hit rock-solid 30 FPS, never dib. High Voltage is aware that there needs to be minimal lag for FPS titles.

- Even if you own a 360 or PS3, you should be excited about The Conduit about the controls. Obviously the team wants beautiful graphics and want to put out a core game for the Wii, but still want to deliver a different experience. It immediately feels like a new way to interact with a FPS. Closer to a PC experience, especially with customizable controls. Fixes the learning curve with dual analog setup.

- PAX build is 3-4 weeks old, AI has taken a step forward. People will be happy about the behaviors of the enemies.

- WiiSpeak and MotionPlus have NOT been confirmed. High Voltage is getting their development kits early in September. WiiSpeak seems like a more obvious fit, will try MotionPlus. If itʼs a tack-on, High Voltage wonʼt use. It needs to add to the gameplay and make a better experience, but will make every effort to get it in there if it makes sense.

- High Voltage is even looking at things like the Wii balance board and determining if it makes sense. Joke about how sprint mode can be used by running on the balance board.

- WiiSpeak is pretty feasible for The Conduit. Again, High Voltage will have a better idea once the dev kits arrive. Seems like an obvious fit, especially with online.

- Art/tech over the past few months have been improved. A couple of more improvements are coming down the pipe. One of the big recent additions is depth of field (scope mode.) Put cursor over target will become focus, things in foreground/background will go out of focus. Dynamic lighting has been improved. Starting to look night and day.

- Splitscreen multiplayer mode probably not in this version (probably not enough time, other reasons), have been exploring some ideas of cooperative mode. High Voltage has been looking at other things that core gamers will appreciate.

- Developer blog for The Conduit launching on IGN soon.
