Dragon Quest Swords Sets Unsheath Date

When will we unmask The Masked Queen?

 

Today Square Enix announced Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors will ship to retail in North America on February 26, 2008. The Wii exclusive invites gamers to mimic sword and shield play with the Wiimote. Your sword can be personalized by combining materials found in the game.

 

Released in Japan last July, the North American version of Dragon Quest Swords will include four hidden bosses and a new "Payback" mode.

Guitar Hero 3 Wii version sells for $9,100!!!

 

A dad who bought his son Guitar Hero 3 for the Wii placed it on ebay after catching his "innocent little boy smoking pot in the backyard with 2 of his delinquent friends". As a punishment he placed it on ebay to share bonding time with his son while watching the Guitar Hero being auctioned off. Turns out, the seller received much more than he thought he would get, as the game sold for $9,100.

Wii system update available

Wii Shop, Photo Channel, and an N64 favourite.

 

Word has come through the wire that a number of updates for the Wii have just been posted. The latest update sees the addition of an option to the Wii Shop which allows the purchase of Virtual Console games as gifts. Simply choose the software, select gift, and choose a friend from your Wii Friends Roster. You can even personalise the gift by attaching your own Mii and a message.

 

Secondly, the Photo Channel has been updated. Now Wii owners can preload any photo from their SD card to act as the Photo Channel icon on the main menu. Also the file format for background music of the Photo Channel has been changed from MP3 to AAC, which Nintendo claims will allow for higher quality music. This update is optional and can be removed by deleting the data file from your system memory.

 

Finally, the classic N64 title Pokémon Snap has been added to the Virtual Console and is available for 1000 points. Players take a ride through a Pokémon reserve and snap pictures of their favourite monsters. The Wii version of the game has been enhanced to allow players to share their favourite Pokémon photos with their friends through the Wii Message Board. 'Wii 2 won't have hand controllers'

 

Leading microchip manufacturer Intel believes Nintendo's successor to the best-selling Wii console won't come with hand controllers.

 

"We imagine some future generation of [Nintendo's] Wii won't have hand controllers," said Justin Rattner, the company's chief technology officer.

 

"You just set up the cameras around the room and wave your hand like you're playing tennis."

 

Ofcource any of the 3 companies could also use this technology, not just Nintendo.

 

According to Business Week, the firm is keen not to miss the opportunity to get involved in the next generations of games systems after it was beaten to it by IBM for the current models.

IGN Bursts NiGHTS Bubble

 

"After a decade of slumber, SEGA's cult classic franchise is reborn on Nintendo Wii."

 

"So after waiting over a decade for a new Nights experience, what's the final verdict? Personally, we'd rather have seen this one stay a nostalgic piece of gaming history, as Journey of Dreams isn't exactly the spectacular homecoming we were hoping for as huge fans of the original Saturn classic."

 

IGN gives NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams a 6.5 out of 10, its lowest professional score to date.

Emergency Mayhem for Wii

 

Codemasters is working on a new Wii game called Emergency Mayhem, where you take control of emergency services vehicles to race to the scene of a calamity and then perform Wiimote actions to do a mini-game. Someone resuscitate Ellie.

 

 

As you can see from the trailer, it's a cartoony ride through Crisis City, where you get to be pretend policeman, pretend paramedic and pretend fireman across over 30 missions, rescuing people from burning buildings, defusing bombs and shooting monkeys with tranquiliser darts.

 

It's all being lined up for Q2 2008 (or "spring" as the trailer explains), and mini-games include hurling bananas at naughty monkeys, using a trampoline to bounce escaping prisoners back into custody, and doing a waddle action with the Wiimote and Nunchuk to herd penguins to safety. You also get to do CPR, use the 'mote like a fire-hose and twist it like a wrench.

 

It doesn't look or sound appalling, actually, which is a nice turn-up for a Wii mini-games compilation, and you can marvel at the screenshot gallery too if it's captured your interest.

 

Oh, and if the name Emergency Mayhem rings bells, it's because you have heard of it before - it was originally announced for PS2 and Xbox by Acclaim, who then went under, with Warner Bros. subsequently picking up the rights and getting Codies in to do the coding.
