UK Ferrari 70th and Ferrari Challenge series game annouced

Prestigious car-manufacturer Ferrari descended on London this weekend to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the famous Marque. Vehicles spanning the entire history of Ferrari were paraded around the capital as part of the worldwide "Ferrari 60 Relay". The world tour is sponsored by video game publisher System 3, who used the visit to release further details about the upcoming video game.

System 3's Christmas launch will take the form of a cutting-edge racing game based on the Ferrari Challenge series - featuring real cars, real tracks and true Ferrari racing dynamics. The launch platform for Ferrari Challenge is the PlayStation 3 and the game has been developed to maximise the technology in the new console format such as a 16-player feature, rich simultaneous online mode with elements not yet seen in any race game to-date.

Massimo Fedeli, Managing Director of Ferrari GB stated "Since the launch of the next-generation consoles, the video game industry finally has, at its disposal, a machine with enough power to truly and loyally represent the Ferrari driving experience. The British public's incredible reaction to the "Ferrari 60-Relay" coming to these shores has demonstrated the strength of the Ferrari brand here and we're very excited to be working with System 3 to produce a cutting-edge racing experience for those fans."

Mark Cale, CEO of System 3 added: "Being involved at such an historic period of Ferrari's history is a real honour. We're dedicating all our resources to developing a game that is properly worthy of the Ferrari Marque and are looking-forward to revealing lots more exciting features over the coming months."

Its sixty years since Enzo Ferrari first started producing cars with his name. Since 1947 the famous Marque has become synonymous with pioneering technical innovation coupled with stunning design. The "Ferrari 60 Relay" celebration tour began in Abu Dhabi in January this year and will traverse fifty countries before concluding at the home of Ferrari in Maranello, Italy on June 23rd.

Accompanying the tour will be a specially commissioned baton adorned with 60 badges symbolising the most extraordinary events in the Company's 60-year history, from its first success at the Rome Grand Prix in 1947 - through to the Ferrari FXX Programme of 2006.

The Ferrari Challenge video game will be published on an array of gaming consoles including; PlayStation® 3, PlayStation® 2, Nintendo Wii™, PlayStation®Portable and Nintendo DS™.

NiGHTs Designed Around Two Control Styles

Add the nunchuck for more 'traditional controls.'

Now that Sega's gotten around to making NiGHTs: Journey of Dreams' existence a reality, gamers have started scraping around for more on the sure-to-be-super-scrutinized sequel to the game representing the Saturn legacy. European publication NGamer scored an interview with Takashi Iizuka, lead game designer on the original and heading up the newly announced Wii game, where he dropped some interesting bits.

First, they aren't forcing people to control NiGHTs exclusively through the Wiimote. Iizuka seems to realize some players may want to stick with a format closer to the original Saturn's analog-based control scheme.

"We're currently designing the game to be played with two control configurations. Our main focus is to design the game to be played with the Wii remote but for those gamers that are more comfortable using a more "traditional-style" controller configuration, they will able to plug the nunchuk into the Wii remote as well."

Scarface (Wii) Interview: Το πρώτο παιχνίδι με μεταβλητό bounding box (Επιτέλους!!!)

IGN: One of the main additions to the Wii version is the novice and expert controls for the bounding box. How has IR (and Wii technology) impacted how Scarface is designed for the system?

Thomas: Using the Wiimote to aim and fire weapons is just so much more rewarding than using an analog joystick. Tony is such a visceral and bloody-minded character that he almost demands a more hands-on control scheme than what the PS2 and Xbox offer, which is why we've had so much fun with the controls. We put the controls through hardcore focus testing to make sure that they not only feel responsive and behave as players expect them to, but that players can modify them in meaningful ways to suit their gameplay styles. That's where our aiming preference system comes in. It allows you to specify the size of the 'dead zone' on-screen, basically the area on-screen that you can move the aiming reticule around in without rotating the camera. We found that some people preferred a very wide area, and some preferred a very small area. For those players that want it, this means that we can duplicate mouse-look sensitivity with the Wii Remote...very twitchy but really rewarding.

Eπιτέλους έγινε η αρχή. Ας ελπίσουμε ότι και άλλοι θα ακολουθήσουν το παράδειγμά τους....

IGN: Do the weapons differ at all in Wii use? Specifically, can we saw off chunks of people using Wii motion with the chainsaw?

Thomas: Hell yes you can! Our firing weapons (like shotguns, machine guns, rocket launchers, etc) are controlled by aiming the Wii Remote, while melee weapons such as pipes, machetes, and of course the chainsaw are controlled by holding the B button and swinging the Wii Remote. In fact my favorite gesture in the game is the chainsaw. By swinging it around using the Wii Remote you can hack off the heads, arms, and legs of enemy gang members. One of the programmers on the team called it 'torsofication', which sums it up perfectly.

IGN: Along with the driving camera (mentioned in our hands-on with the game), what other changes have been made to the Wii version? Do you feel that the extra development time has made Wii the strongest version, or just a different experience?

Thomas: Definitely the strongest. We feel that the Wii edition is the definitive Scarface gameplay experience.

IGN: Graphically speaking, what changes were made when going from version to version? Is Scarface a direct port of either the Xbox version or the PS2? What was added/removed when bringing the game over on a graphical standpoint?

Thomas: We've overhauled the graphics engine to get the most out of the Wii. In a lot of ways the Wii edition of Scarface visually outperforms the PS2 and Xbox versions.

IGN: When it comes to content, Scarface is an extremely mature game. Do you think the M rating will change sales for the game on Wii?

Thomas: We haven't cut anything from the game. It's just bloody, intense, and M-Rated as other editions of the game. It just wouldn't be a Scarface game if we sanitized anything, and from what we've seen, Wii owners are clamoring for this kind of experience.

PriceGrabber.co.uk has put out data that shows interest in the PS3 6 weeks after launch, and then compared it to the Xbox 360 and Wii data from the same time period. PS3 interest has risen 127% in 6 weeks, but 360 interest went up 250% after its first 6 weeks, while the Wii managed 579%. Iʼd love to see what consumer interest is right now for the Wii.
