Το Darkness θα ονομαζεται πλεον Midnight.

Darkness.png

Crossbeam Studiosʼ Darkness has had a name change. The “survival horror game in a post-apocalypitic world over runby the children of the night” will now be called Midnight. Keep in mind that this is just a change of the codename, and may not reflect the final name. I had a quick chat with Crossbeam Studios to see why the change was made. It was simply to avoid any confusion/issues with 2k Games upcoming game “The Darkness”. Hopefully we will see some more information released on this title very soon. To catch yourself up on what is known, head over to the Midnight thread at the CSE website.

Naruto hits Wii

The series Naruto-Gekitou Ninja Taisen is continuing on Wii. The latest entry will be based on the Hurricane Chronicles, i.e. after the time skip in the manga and will feature all the well-known characters with their new appearances.

It will make full-use of the Wiimote. E.g. For Naruto's Rasengan chakra needs to be focused by drawing a circle with both the Nunchaku & Wiimote. The more chakra is collected, the more powerful the move will be.

Τα παιχνιδια που θα κυκλοφορησουν στο Wii μεχρι το Μαρτιο

Nintendo's new generation console is available around the globe and with it a growing library of good and great games. Wii launched last year with one of the greatest videogames ever made in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Skeptics will undoubtedly say that such a project will be hard to top, but the Big N isn't planning to rest on its laurels. The publisher will before the end of 2007 ready and ship sequels to cherished franchises, including everything from Super Mario Galaxy and Super Smash Bros. Brawl to Metroid Prime 3: Corruption.

Of course, all of the big guns are set for the second, third and fourth quarters of the year, so what can Wii owners look out for in the first - those pivotal three months that make up the winter of 2007? A surprising number of compelling Wii titles, as it turns out. There are nearly 15 big games set to debut from Nintendo and third parties during the months of January, February and March, and that doesn't account for newly announced projects, which seem to arrive daily.

In the feature to follow, IGN Wii takes readers through some of the confirmed Wii games set to release in the first quarter of the year.

The Godfather: Blackhand Edition

Developer: EA Redwood Shores

Publisher: Electronic Arts

Release Date: March 20, 2007

Genre: Action

What to expect: Wii owners who crave a Grand Theft Auto-like title would be wise to look out for EA's upcoming The Godfather: Blackhand Edition. The game delivers the quasi-sandbox third-person action make-up of Rockstar's series, but with a twist: players take on the role of a newcomer gangster who becomes the go-to henchman of the infamous Corleone family. Blackhand Edition enables would-be hitmen to rise the ranks of the organization and play through pivotal scenes from the blockbuster movies. For instance, the Corleone family will call upon gamers to deliver a horse's head to an enemy's bed or to protect the Godfather himself from attackers. The Wii version of the title features five new hit missions, redesigned family compound raids, and new businesses to "protect." But the biggest change to the Wii build is the new control scheme, which enables players to use motion-based gestures to aim weapons and throw damaging punches.

Heatseeker

Developer: IR Gurus Interactive / Codemasters

Publisher: Codemasters

Release Date: March 30, 2007

Genre: Flight Action

What to expect: Sooner or later, Nintendo will deliver a Wii version of Pilotwings to the masses, but until then Codemasters has the flight action genre covered with Heatseeker. The title, developed jointly by the company and IR Gurus (Heroes of the Pacific), pits players in 30 controllable jetfighters, from the F-15 Eagle and F-16 Falcon to the F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II, as well as classics like the MiG-29, Su-27, Su-47 and MiG-1.44. There are an additional 10 planes that will fly alongside or against gamers as they dogfight in the skies above 10 different terrains. Each of the fighters boasts unique physics-based attributes and stylized controls. And speaking of controls, the Wii version of the title differentiates itself with remote and nunchuk-enhanced maneuverability.

Prince of Persia: Rival Swords

Developer: Ubisoft Montreal

Publisher: Ubisoft

Release Date: March 2007

Genre: Action

the-wii-games-of-winter-2007-20070116034035241.jpg

What to expect: There's good news and bad news to report. Ubisoft is finally bringing one of its greatest franchises to Nintendo's new generation console. Prince of Persia: Rival Swords debuts for Wii in March. The potentially bad news is that the game is more or less a port of the year-plus-old Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones, which released for GameCube, PlayStation 2 and Xbox. The game is still a must for those who never got around to playing it when it debuted and with newly added Wii controls -- gesture with the remote to make Prince move and fight - there may still be a lot to do and see. In Rival Swords, players must progress through Babylon as both Prince and his evil alter-ego Dark Prince, both of whom possess unique skills and abilities that must be harnessed to advance. The Two Thrones received solid reviews across the board so we've no doubt this will be a fun game. We just hope Ubisoft goes the extra mile to deliver Wii owners something truly revolutionary.

SSX Blur

Developer: EA Montreal

Publisher: Electronic Arts

Release Date: March 2007

Genre: Sports

the-wii-games-of-winter-2007-20070116034038600.jpg

What to expect: Strap on your boots and get ready to hit the slopes. EA's new SSX Blur for Wii is the latest in the popular downhill racing series and it's filled with everything that has made the franchise a hit over the years. Namely, huge, snow-filled tracks, the potential for ridiculous air, amazing airborne tricks and combos, and a variety of riders and courses to select. EA has thus far kept relatively quiet on all the specifics, but we do know that Blur enables the ability to go snowboarding or skiing and boasts all-new Wii exclusive controls. Tilt the nunchuk left and right to carve and use the Wii remote to draw on-screen shapes that translate into Uber moves. Blur has a very polished, clean look to it that better shows off what Wii is capable of from a technical standpoint, too. This is bound to be one of the biggest titles of the first quarter and every Wii owner should be keeping an eye on it.

Sonic and the Secret Rings

Developer: SEGA

Publisher: SEGA

Release Date: March 2007

Genre: Action

the-wii-games-of-winter-2007-20070116034036709.jpg

What to expect: Oh, Sonic, where have you gone wrong? Was it the jump to 3D that ruined you? If your latest adventure on Xbox 360 is any indication, you have no business running through an open environment. Thankfully, the Wii Sonic and the Secret Rings puts you back where you belong: firmly on rails - or, at least, on a set path. The upside to the admittedly more linear presentation is that the experience more closely resembles the 2D games of old. In the Secret Rings, Sonic explores a variety of levels right out of an "Arabian Nights" theme. Players turn the Wii controller on its side and tilt left and right to steer Sonic as he blazes through the environments, and the hedgehog can gain a satisfying speed burst when the controller is thrust forward. Did we mention that Sonic's latest outing happens to be one of the prettiest Wii games to date? The Secret Rings may finally bring Sonic back to his glory days.

WarioWare: Smooth Moves

Developer: Nintendo

Publisher: Nintendo

Release Date: January 16, 2007

Genre: Action

the-wii-games-of-winter-2007-20070116034037662.jpg

What to expect: When it comes to unfiltered insanity, WarioWare: Smooth Moves is the only title out there that satisfies. As the fifth iteration of the franchise, Smooth Moves takes the random hilarity and uncanny style of its predecessors and combines the unique WarioWare style with the equally unique Wii-mote controller. Players will select a challenge, grab the nearest Wii remote, and blaze though lightning-fast "microgames" in an attempt to accumulate enough points to take down each level's boss challenge. Tasks include multiple nostalgic romps through classic Nintendo franchises - teach the cast of Nintendogs how to shake, or knock down the competition with Samus's morph ball from Metroid Prime - as well as entirely random objectives such as fanning away Wario's rectal fumes or hitting unsuspecting bystanders with a virtual wooden stick. Much like previous versions of the franchise WarioWare: Smooth Move proves that games don't have to make sense to deliver entertaining gameplay.

Mortal Kombat: Armageddon

Developer: Midway Games

Publisher: Midway Games

Release Date: March 2007

Genre: Fighting

the-wii-games-of-winter-2007-20070116034035709.jpg

What to expect: As the next installment of the classic arcade franchise, Mortal Kombat: Armageddon comes to Wii this Winter, and with it comes a whole new world of pain. Armageddon features the same modes and overall gameplay as the other console versions, though it promises to engage players in brutal "kombat" with the unique possibilities of the Wii controller. Smash through a single player adventure mode or invite your friends over for intense brawls, utilizing the all-new create-a-fighter mode. Midway has kept quite with the specifcs of the Wii version thus far, but if there's an opportunity to use the Wii remote to reach into a defeated foes chest a literally pull their heart out, we're game. Look for Armageddon to hit Wii sometime this March.

Mario Party 8

Developer: Nintendo

Publisher: Nintendo

Release Date: March 6, 2007

Genre: Party

the-wii-games-of-winter-2007-20070116034036194.jpg

What to expect: If there's one thing the Wii is destined for, it's a slew of party games, and what better way to kick off the inevitable hundreds upon hundreds of multiplayer party games than with Nintendo's own Mario Party 8. For anyone who's taken a break from the Mario Party world, now would be a good time to check back in, as Mario Party 8 promises to reinvent the franchise with fresh new control, and all the quirky gameplay mechanics that come with it. Using the controller to catch virtual fish, row boats, or smack on-screen targets will bring a whole new dimension to the franchise, allowing simple, inviting, playfully-competitive gameplay to anyone in your household.

TMNT

Developer: Ubisoft Montreal

Publisher: Ubisoft

Release Date: March 13, 2007

Genre: Action

the-wii-games-of-winter-2007-20070116034034787.jpg

What to expect: Nothing beats the good old days of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Arcade, grabbing three of your bestest buds and fighting over who got to be Leonardo as you crowded around the controls, dropped quarter after quarter into the machine, and beat the ever-living hell out of Shredder and the Footclan 25 cents at a time. We may not have seen a true Turtles game since Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time, but with every announcement of TMNT titles we can't help but stay optimistic that our child-hood dreams will once again come true on the home console, and with Ubisoft's TMNT we may be closer to true turtles goodness than we have been in a decade and a half. Four player combat, acrobatic special moves, and the potential to literally slash away at The Foot with the Wii remote sounds good to us, although we're a bit scared to see what happens when young, ambitious gamers try to make use of the Wii's "nunchuk" controller a bit too literally like their hero Michelangelo. You may want to start bubble-wrapping your controllers ahead of time…

Bust-A-Move Bash!

Developer: Happy Happening

Publisher: Majesco

Release Date: Q1 2007

Genre: Action/Puzzle

the-wii-games-of-winter-2007-20070116034038115.jpg

What to expect: Bust-A-Move Bash! is the next installment in the popular action/puzzle franchise. In this classic game of speed, precision, and… bubbles, players will arm their cannons and fire sphere after sphere in hopes of making chains and combos to send back at their enemies. After picking from more than 10 characters, players can participate in a 500 level puzzle mode, endless move, vs. competition, or shooting mode. In addition, a new hyper mode is being added, as well as a new "slip" function that lets players connect similar bubbles even if their aim is a bit off. Where the true "revolution" of Bust-A-Move can be found, however, is in the multiplayer mode, which allows up to eight players to participate in free-for-all madness (most-likely using some sort of voodoo magic). When it comes to frantic puzzle action, Bust-A-Move has held up as one of the best out there, and Bash! looks to follow suite quite nicely.
