Η γνώμη μου για τον σκηνοθέτη:

 

O David Lynch είναι μακράν απο άλλο πλανήτη. Food for thought.

Οι ταινίες του Lynch είναι ψυχοδηλωτικές, ψυχιατρικές, ψυχοθεραπευτικές καταστάσεις. Είναι ένας υποσυνείδητος κινηματογράφος, σαν να προβάλλεται και άλλη ταινία απο κάτω απο την ταινία! :twisted:

Οσόν αφορά το ΙΝLAND EMPIRE....

Προβλέπεται να γίνει χαμός.

 

Πότε τελικά βγαίνει ρε παιδιά στην Ελλάδα;

 

Κοιτάζοντας εδώ μάλλον κάποιοι την έχουν δεί την ταινία !!!

 

By the end of the 189 minute length of the picture, I knew I had seen a work that if writer/director David Lynch died tomorrow (not that I would want him too of course) would be a near-great swan song. In some ways it's a true look into what this director has on his mind, for greater or lesser for the audience, and it's a wonderment of an independent filmmaker working independently of the system (over three years) to make the work he wants to make on his terms. It also teeters on being too big, too mind-****ing, and it is at least five minutes too long (mostly with the last ten minutes). But it's also the work of an artist who uses his cast and (limited) crew to create a complex web of abstractions, moods, emotions, and of course rabbits on couches.

 

First off to try to tell what the story is about...what's the use really. It would be almost futile to try and describe it all, because frankly even on a repeat viewing I don't think I would get everything. All I'll say is that Dern plays an actress, Nikki, who lands a part in a film by the director Kinglsey (Jeremy Irons), and co-starring is Devon, played by Theroux. While in rehearsal, they learn from the director that the film they're doing is technically a remake of a film that was never finished; the actors on that film were murdered under mysterious circumstances. Then, like with Lynch's Mulholland Drive, for a brief period there seems to be at least SOME logic to the story, of Dern, Theroux, Irons, and Irons's creepy assistant played by Stanton (my favorite of the supporting roles). Then, slowly but surely, we're taken away from the 'typical' and put into what Lynch describes as being 'dream logic'. Soon there seems to be some sort of alternate reality, or alternate realities, and for the bulk of the film we're treated to images, scenes, moments, passages of dialog, that all flow almost more like music or poetry.

 

I know that last part might sound pretentious, but it's the only way I can really relay what Lynch has in store with Inland Empire. On terms of the the acting it's dynamic, creative, and absorbing. Even if it is Lynch's movie in a big way, it's also Laura Dern's tour-de-force movie, as she goes deeper into other 'characters', (i.e. Sue, who we may forget after a while is really named Nikki), pulls out overall perhaps her greatest work to date. She utilizes all her gifts and intuition as an actor, and she ends up through Lynch's scenes of surrealism, the absurd, and almost otherworldly, going through all the emotions one could think of. It all adds up to being what many of us go to the movies for to see actors do; through subtle moments and very big, larger-than-life moments, she taps into herself in ways she might have not even known possible before filming. Fans of her will rejoice over her in this film; meanwhile others like Grace Zabriskie, Irons and Stanton get their moments too.

 

On the technical side, it's the first time that Lynch is going through a feature-length work on a digital camera shooting on tapes. It's a tricky notion that a man who, until recently with shorts, worked squarely on film, could pull it off. But not only does he and DP Odd-Geir Saether pull it off, it's often extraordinary. There's a true sense of freedom with a digital camera, even if here and there a shot might get fuzzy or the lights might make things seem too bright or too dark. And this visual freedom provides Lynch opportunities not really tapped like this since Eraserhead. There's one that sticks in my head when Dern and Theroux are in bed (I won't say why or how), there's a blue tint or lighting to the room, and the close-up compositions make it extremely striking. Close-ups, too, are crucial in the film, and there's the chance of going into overkill. But so many different kinds of shots are realized that the possibilities seem endless. And yes, the rabbits are quite freaky indeed when shown.

 

It's often, through many a dramatic or downright crazy scene or sequence, a funny movie at times, and I would guess perhaps unintentionally at times and intentionally at others. There's a certain absurdism that goes into play with a dream logic, and the often perverse, strange and 'what was that' kinds of scenes are all abound in this film. For example, Nikki/Sue, in one of these alternate types of realities, comes into contact with a group of women who sometimes talk about their looks or nothing much, and then break into dance numbers for 'Do the Locomotion' and 'At Last'. The lack of sense is a challenge to the viewer. But if you give yourself to the material, the themes and ideas come through, and they're very fulfilling in connection with the abstractions. It's got cinema itself at it's core, about how we watch movies and watch people act in them, and how un-realities cross with realities and end up back in a reality where feeling and understanding are more important than knowing everything.

 

If I haven't made things totally clear, don't fret. If there is a liability in all of this, it's that unlike 'Drive', in three hours Lynch isn't totally able to sustain all of his wild ideas and images and mixing together of fantasies and realities and how actors act out things everywhere and anywhere and so on and so forth. That there's so much though that sticks in the mind once it's done, and so much that can stir up questions and things to talk about with the one seeing the picture with, is a credit to Lynch and his gifts at what he does. Lynch talks about Eraserhead's tortured trail from an persistent idea in Philadelphia to an unfinishable MFA student project, to a collective obsession while squating in an AFI barn for 3 years (also where much of the filming took place), to frustrated abandonment, then finally to completion under the gun of a friendly financier.

In 2000 Eraserhead was remastered & released in some markets but without Eraserhead Stories. Judging from this Amazon customer review, Stories has been included only as an unlisted extra in *some* post-2001 editions, notably those sold directly from David Lynch's website. Chitchat at fan sites indicate both this Eraserhead + Shorts Boxset and this Eraserhead DVD do include it.

Γμτ η αιθουσα ηταν φισκα,δεν βρηκα εισιτηριο.. Τεσπα θα την δω σινεμα/dvd. Αυτο που μου εχει κανει εντυπωση πάντως ειναι ο ΠΟΛΥΣ κοσμος που παει στο φεστιβαλ. Σε 3 ταινιες πηγα μεχρι τωρα ολες οι αιθουσες γεματες(αφου σε μια καθονταν και στους διαδρομους ). Καλα ειναι...

 

Α,btw ποια ταινια του Lynch προτεινετε να δω πρωτη;

Αν θες να ξεκινησεις λαου-λαου τσεκαρε πρωτα κανα Elephant Man,ύστερα κανα Dune και μετα περναμε στα βαρια χαρτια,Mulholland > Blue Velvet > Lost Highway > Eraserhead (η πιο βατη αλλα και πλεον συμβολικη του ταινια,σε καποια φαση θα σε πιασει η καρδια σου).Τελος ριξε μια ματια Wild at Heart ετσι για να λες οτι το ειδες.Βρες χρονο και για την 2-season τηλεοπτικη σειρα Twin Peaks(βγηκε και ταινια αλλα δεν συγκρινεται)

 

Αν παλι θες να ξεκινησεις γερα δες Lost Highway > Mulholland > Blue Velvet και δοκιμασε στο τελος ενα Εraserhead οπωσδηποτε και ενα Elephant Man για τελος. ΑΝ ΚΑΙ ΕΦΟΣΟΝ τα βγαλεις περα παιξε μπαλα με Wild at Heart και ισως Dune
