tone Δημοσ. 13 Δεκεμβρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 13 Δεκεμβρίου 2006 Newbits: # New PSP package coming out in Europe, apparently, that includes a 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo and PSP Media Manager. 329 Euro (~$433 USD). # Playstation.com Japan has started selling PSP "dress-up" stickers. They're going for 480 yen (~$4 USD) apiece. Available now is "Dokodemo Issho," "Loco Roco," "Ape Academy," "PaRappa the Rapper," "Tatoo," and "Leopard." # ITmedia reports that the Pink PSP is doing fairly well. Or at least it's hitting the right audience. Sony is quoted as saying that roughly 70% of the purchasers are female (and thus 30% are male...), and mostly in their 20s to 40s. # Speaking of PSP colors, Silver is due out this week in Japan. Daredevil Δημοσ. 15 Δεκεμβρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 15 Δεκεμβρίου 2006 MGS Portable Ops: the testing ground for MGS4 Kojima fans were shocked to find that Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops not only successfully emulates the console MGS experience on the handheld, but brings new things to the table. The folks of High Dynamic Range Lying detail how MGS:PO may actually be testing new ideas for MGS4, heading to the PS3. The new recruitment system, where Snake must capture enemies and convert them into allies might be a crucial aspect of the next-gen sequel: "In MGS4, there's no telling if Solid Snake himself will try to form his own fighting force. Otacon is heard in the E3 trailer, saying that Snake cannot do it alone, adding that he never had a chance. Could this be the catalyst that forces Snake to create a team capable of taking down the patriots, and stopping Liquid Ocelot? With MGS4 still in development for another year, the story of an old Snake single handedly silencing an entire army of mechs and soldiers seeming ridiculous, and little to none of the new allegiance system revealed, it seems more than likely that MPO may be more than a Snake Eater sequel." Sounds reasonable to me. For those of you that remember the original trailers for the game, there's "no place to hide" for Snake. With his body aging, and massive armored mechs walking around everywhere, Snake's going to need a lot of help.
Daredevil Δημοσ. 17 Δεκεμβρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 17 Δεκεμβρίου 2006 Jump Festa: Final Fantasy on display 1UP gets mad props for getting footage from Japan's Jump Festa, where the hotly anticipated Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core and Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War are on display. A trailer showcasing the game's beautiful new cutscenes is on display, and can be seen after the cut. Crisis Core's demo is available for attendees to play, and it seems like FF fans need not worry about the game's quality: "Combat in Crisis Core takes place in pseudo-real-time, not unlike Final Fantasy XII, though there's only one playable character (FFVII fan favorite Zack), and the action is a lot more active. During battle you find yourself constantly mashing the attack button to pull off combos or backstab enemies for extra damage, but you can dodge and defend as well, and you can use the L and R buttons to cycle through your items and magic attacks... With the stunning visuals and interesting battle system we saw today, it seems to be headed in the right direction." After Burner still looking good It looks like the major game sites had the chance to look at Planet Moon's upcoming take on Sega's After Burner. All of them seem to have rather nice things to say. Gamespot notes that "Control is accessible and sticks to an easy-to-pick-up interface." They also praised the high quality of the graphics. For people that are worried that this modern reimagining of the classic will stray too far from the original's formula need not worry. IGN notes that "it definitely plays like an Afterburner game. There's no real-world physics, for starters. Players still rocket through the skies at obscene speeds blowing up everything in sight. Plus, the camera perspective and controls still retain the ease-of-use and responsiveness of older titles." The game will come out in March, so expect more updates in the upcoming year. PSP version of Full Auto much better than next-gen counterparts [/url] It looks like Sega's support of PSP is just starting. Their upcoming After Burner looks like it'll translate really well on the handheld. Interestingly, the upcoming PSP version of Full Auto 2 also looks good. Actually, it looks to be more fun than either its Xbox 360 or PLAYSTATION 3 brethren. Gamespot focuses on the new content featured on the handheld. With ten new weapons and ten new cars, and more customization options, it appears the PSP version of the game will feature the most functionality. IGN focuses on the destructible environments. Apparently, you can easily lock-on to destructible targets in the level. This simplified approach fares much better than the console original, and will most likely create far more explosive, and interesting, races. Finally, 1UP takes note of one very peculiar advantage the PSP Full Auto seems to have: better graphics, or at the very least, better art direction. The next-gen versions take place in one city, and seem to made up of various shades of brown. The PSP version features tons more color and environmental variety, as the game spans locales all over the world, from Europe, Asia and North America. It's clear that the development team behind the PSP version of the game simply cares more about gamers. The original Full Auto didn't get the best reviews, but looking at all the new content in the PSP version, it looks like the franchise's best will appear on the handheld.

Daredevil Δημοσ. 18 Δεκεμβρίου 2006 Δημοσ. 18 Δεκεμβρίου 2006 Metal Gear Solid's GPS demonstration The folks at PSP Vault have combined the GPS accessory (now available in Japan) with the recently released Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. As explained earlier, you'll be able to recruit new soldiers through this weird and wacky feature that combines virtual espionage and real-world location hunting. Check after the cut to see more. The little circles seen on the GPS are soldiers you can recruit. According to the Vault's estimations, the large circle that's represented on the screen spans a distance of half a mile: perfect for a lengthy hike on foot. When you get within 100 feet, it seems like you'll get a new soldier to join you. Whether or not you think this feature is lame or cool, there's no denying that this is truly an original and imaginative addition to the MGS universe. Ρε παιδια .
