Μερικά registry hacks για Windows XP, βάλτε και τα δικά σας... (αλλα να μην προκαλούν διάλυση των πάντων. έχουμε και νέους)

 

Ρύθμιση του System Restore

Μην αναλύσουμε τι είναι, στο help των win. To SR ειναι enabled by default σε όλους τους δισκους. Και καταναλώνει χώρο ανάλογα το μέγεθος κάθε δισκου. Αυτο εχει αποτέλεσμα μεγάλη σπατάλη χώρου.

Αν έχουμε ενα τυπικό σύστυμα, με 2,3 disks/partitions και τα xp στο C, με τις συνηθεις εφαρμογες στο C:\Program files, to SR στους alloys δίσκους D,E,.. είναι καθαρή σπατάλη.

Φυσικά μπορούμε να κάνουμε Disable SR for ALL disks, αλλα έστω οτι θέλουμε μια βασική προστασία, με 2,3,4 restore points, poy na περιέχει το βασικό: την Registry & τους Drivers συσκευών.

Δεξι κλικ στο My computer, System Restore tab, και απενεργοποίηση στους δίσκους πλην του C (ή του αντίστοιχου που περιέχει τα XP).

Περιορίσαμε τη σπατάλη σε ένα δίσκο, άλλα έστω οτι θέλουμε να ρυθμίσουμε το ποσοστό του C που θα χρησιμοποιεί το SR.

Στη δική μου περίπτωση, έχω τα XP στον C, μεγέθους 2 GB, εγκατεστημένα ΜΙΑ ΜΟΛΙΣ ΕΒΔΟΜΑΔΑ. Αποτέλεσμα: το folder "C:\System Volume Information" έχει φτάσει τα 500 ΜΒ (25% tou C), και περιέχει 17 restore points! free space = 250 MB.

Δεν είναι το προβλημά μου ο χώρος, εξάλου έχω άλλα 3 partitions, αλλα για να κάνω backup με το ghost, το image θα πάρει μαζί και αυτα τα 500 mb άχρηστα data.

Αν πάς απο το My computer, System Restore tab και βάλεις το Disk space to use στο μινιμουμ, δεν γίνεται αυτο που θελεις ακριβώς. Σε ένα δίσκο 2 GB, θέλει να κρατάει min 200 ή 12%, και ο δισκος μου θεωρείται μικρός, σε δίσκο 20 GB τι θα κάνει??

Πάμε στη registry και του αλλάζουμε τα φώτα:

Values That Can Be Modified Without Risk of Harm to the Computer

 

DiskPercent

This value relates to the percentage of disk space that System Restore uses for its data store. The default value is 12 percent. The data store size is always calculated as "max(12 percent, DSMax)," regardless of the size of the hard disk. The maximum (max) size is what is specified in DSMax. For hard disk sizes that are less than 4 gigabytes (GB) in size, 12 percent is less than 400 megabytes (MB), so "max(12 percent, DSMax) equals 400 MB." For hard disk sizes that are greater than 4 GB, 12 percent is greater than 400 MB, so "max(12 percent, DSMax) equals 12 percent." This data store size is not a reserved disk space, and the data store size is used only on demand.

DSMax

This value specifies the maximum size for the System Restore data store. The default size of the data store is 400 MB. DSMin

This value relates to the minimum amount of free disk space that System Restore needs so that it can function during the installation process. Also, this value relates to the minimum amount of free disk space that is needed for System Restore to reactivate and to resume the creation of restore points after System Restore has been disabled because of low disk space.

Πρώτα κάντε disable for All, για να σβηστούν όλα τα res.points, και μετά enable μονο για το C. Εγώ τα έβαλα DiskPercent 3,DSMax 100,DSMin 25. Προσοχη, αν κάνετε disable all, και ξανα enable, θα χαθούν κάποιες απο τις αλλαγές σας στη registry.

Remove unnecessary Scheduled Tasks scan by Internet Explorer and make Internet Explorer Load faster

I read about this tip on internet at INFOWORLD. This tips is about a bug in Windows OS (was originally present in Windows 2000 and I do see it in Windows XP as well) that causes Internet explorer to search for Scheduled Tasks whenever your launch the Internet explorer as a user. Microsoft has it documented in a knowledgebase article. Anyway trick is to open registry and navigating to

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\RemoteComputer\NameSpace

and then looking for shared tasks ClassId key

Simply delete it and get out of registry. No need to reboot. Launch Internet Explorer and see the difference. I noticed significant gains on my computer and I sure bet you will as well.

Not a big deal but would help you get there faster. Open registry (by going to START-RUN and entering regedit) and navigate to

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Identities\{** Identity ID **}\Software\Microsoft\Outlook Express\5.0]

where Identity Id is your computer specific value (on my computer Identity Id is {9144D186-C4E5-462F-A269-E9F293F14A1D}) and look for value of

"NoSplash"

If this is the first time, you may not see this key and if so add the DWORD key by the name "NoSplash ". Now sets its value to 1

 

Disable ZIP Folders

αν προτιμάτε ένα απο τα Winzip,winrar,winace αντι του explorer:

Windows XP has built-in support for .ZIP files, however the system uses a sizeable portion of resources doing this. To disable:

Start -> Run... -> type "regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll"

 

Unload unused DLLs:

Explorer often leaves DLLs cached in memory for a long period of time after they have been finished with. To turn off this behavior open regedit and create key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

"AlwaysUnloadDLL" = DWORD:1

Set to 0 to disable.

Note: A restart is needed for this to take effect.
