Explosive Gas v0.3 For DS

 

Here we have an updated version of the ndshb WiFi Game Competition winner - Explosive Gas. This v0.3 update fixes a couple of network issues and a client side crash bug.

In order to host a game, you'll need to have your router forward port 9999 to your ds. You can find the ip address of your ds on the wifi menu screen in the game. If you don't have port 9999 being forwarded to your ds, you can still host a LAN game, just be sure that the other ds's that try to join use the 'Join LAN game' option rather than the 'Join Game' option in the menus.

A group called 'EXPERiENCE' have reportedly cracked and leaked onto the web the Official Nintendo DS emulator 'Ensata'. Please do not link to this file, anyone doing so will be banned without question.

Nintendo Profits Climb on DS Success

 

Touching is good for the bottom line.

 

Nintendo reported a 10.2 percent increase in first-quarter net profit today, crediting the healthy earnings to the success of the Nintendo DS Lite and hit games for the system, such as Brain Age and New Super Mario Bros.

 

During the quarter Nintendo sold 4.54 million DS units -- three times more than the 1.38 million sold a year before. Software sales for the system were even more impressive: Nintendo sold 18.4 million DS game titles in the first quarter, compared to 5.3 million in the same period last year.

 

All told, the Nintendo DS has sold more than 21 million units since it debuted in November 2004. Nintendo expects to sell 17 million DS units in fiscal 2006.

 

By contrast, the Game Boy Advance sold 680,000 units in the quarter, down from 980,000 in Q1 last year. The GameCube sold 150,000 units, below 260,000 in last year's first quarter.

 

For its first quarter ended in June, Nintendo's net income climbed to 15.6 billion yen ($134.3 million), above 14.1 billion yen last year. The company posted sales of 130.9 billion yen ($1.1 billion) for the quarter, an 85 percent increase from 70.7 billion yen in the same period last year.

 

Invigorated by the quarter's earnings, Nintendo has increased its annual net income forecast to 83 billion yen, above the previously forecast 65 billion yen

Dalmatians Frolic Stateside

Check out Nintendo's current release date list, which includes a new Nintendogs edition.

 

In a brief mailing today, Nintendo revealed its current line-up of first-party Nintendo DS titles scheduled to ship by the end of the year. Among the dates is the revelation that Nintendogs: Dalmatian and Friends will make an appearance in the US this fall. The game is essentially the same as previous editions released a year ago, apart from the fact that players will be able to adopt a dalmatian breed right from the start. It ships on October 16th.

 

Also in October will be the release of Clubhouse Games, a compilation of card, board and parlor games that are Wi-Fi Connection enabled. It hits stores on October 9th. Magical Starsign, the localized rendition of the Magical Vacation RPG in Japan hits on October 23rd. Two games share a October 30th date: Pokemon Ranger, and the Square Enix-developed Children of Mana.

 

For November, Nintendo will launch the long-awaited US rendition of the fantastical Ouendan! music design: Elite Beat Agents hits on November 6th. On November 13th, we'll see the official sequel to the Super NES Yoshi's Island in the aptly titled Yoshi's Island 2.

 

A month later, we'll see two more games from Nintendo: Custom Robo Arena, and Kirby: Squeak Squad...both scheduled for a December 4th release.

 

This leaves several other games from Nintendo's future line-up in 2007 limbo. E3-announced games such as The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Diddy Kong Racing, Hotel Dusk: Room 215, DS Air, did not make an appearance on this announcement, which leads us to believe that they've been delayed until next year.

The Sims Adopt Pets

 

As it happens, it is EA that let the dogs (and other furry critters) out.

 

It could be that this fall many a Nintendog will be abandoned. Today, Electronic Arts announced The Sims 2 Pets, a new companion for the Sims series.

 

The Sims have finally grown up enough to earn the responsibility of pet ownership. On all platforms Pets will let players' sims own all manner of companions such as: dogs, cats, guinea pigs, and birds -- as well as ways to train your critters to do tricks.

 

The Sims 2 Pets will offer unique features depending on which platform you're playing on. For example, the PC version will provide an assortment of existing breeds and "designer mixes" using a "Create-a-Pet" system (hopefully without any sort of Frankenstein's Monster outcomes). The DS version, by contrast, lets players build a neighborhood Pet Care Center.

 

"The Sims 2 Pets captures the magic between pets and their owners," said Executive Producer Rod Humble. "A dog gnawing at his chew toy, a cat jumping at a dangled feather, a toddler stroking the chest of a big dog who sits by patiently ... even a frisky dog getting caught rolling around in the trash. These special moments all come to life through the lifelike animations and artwork of The Sims 2 Pets. There is something delightful about your Sim, a little pet person, having a pet of their own. Pets allows players to tell more stories with their Sims and helps create more emergent anecdotes within the game."

 

The Sims 2 Pets is scheduled to ship for PlayStation 2, GameCube, Nintendo DS, Game Boy Advance, and as a PC expansion pack on October 17. A version for the PSP is slated to follow in November.

Official Nintendo DS Lite Headset Info & Pics

 

Arstechnica have a little bit of extra information on the Official DS Lite headset, it will be released in Japan on September 14th, is mono, and well looks pretty nice.
