Sony: We have yet to announce several games due in 2009

Sony's line up of first party PS3 games in 2009 is without a doubt the strongest line up they've had yet. Starting off strong with Killzone 2 and MLB '09, Sony still has InFamous, Heavy Rain, and Uncharted 2 confirmed to be hitting shelves this year, with God of War III, MAG, Gran Turismo 5, and several other titles tentatively planned for release as well.

However, Sony isn't done there. According to Sony America's Vice President of Product Development Scott Rhodes, Sony still has number of 2009 surprises up their sleeve. "There are several titles that are in the works that we have yet to announce”, Rhodes revealed in a recent interview. "It’s one of those things where we’re seeing the fruits of all those initial investments. They’re all just starting to hit and stack up for 2009."

Keep an eye out for the Game Developers Conference next week for some big announcements from Sony. Sony has typically had impressive GDC showings, including debuting their highly publicized Home application at the convention back in 2007.

“It was really important to us to make sure Red Alert 3 on the PS3 took full advantage of everything the system has to offer,” said David Seeholzer, Development Director at EA Los Angeles. “The additional time we’ve had allowed us to improve the PS3 version, with big performance increases and better visual fidelity. The Blu-ray disc’s storage capacity also gave us an opportunity to add a tremendous amount of bonus content, some of which is entirely exclusive for PS3 owners, making the Ultimate Edition the ultimate value.”

The Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Ultimate Edition features EA Los Angeles’ console RTS control system, the CommandStick 2.0 interface, bringing the ease and efficiency of RTS controls on the PC to the PLAYSTATION 3. Command & Conquer Red Alert 3 shipped last fall and was recently named Best Strategy Game of the Year by the Academy of Arts and Interactive Sciences. In an interview with IGN, Crytek President and CEO Cevat Yerli stated that CryEngine 3 "will run slightly better" on the PlayStation 3. The difference may be negligible to gamers themselves, however, as Yerli also remarked that "it'll look and feel probably the same" on both platforms.

"The CE3 runs currently at more or less the same quality bar," Yerli asserted. "I say more or less because the engine still optimizes itself to power of the platforms' intrinsics. So the PS3 will run slightly better here, it'll look and feel probably the same, but the engine is diverting computation needs to power subsystems available to the PS3, and the 360 differently, and PC differently."

Yerli seemed a bit unsure of himself, but it's nice to know that the engine will, at the very least, run equally well on both platforms,

Final Fantasy XIII will use "nearly 100%" of the PlayStation 3's hardware power, Square Enix producer Yoshinori Kitase has claimed.

When asked how much of the PS3's tech muscle FFXIII will make use of, Kitase told Japanese mag Dengeki PlayStation 3, "doesn't the demo use about 50 percent of its power? Of course, I think the retail version will make use of nearly 100 percent."

The producer added that there won't be any disc swap issues on the PS3 version (there's no 360 release planned for Japan) due to Blu-ray and the console's hard drive.

The FFXIII demo is due to ship with the Advent Children Blu-ray release in Japan on April 16. Development on the trial was finished last year, says Kitase.

"The game's development is currently going well," he said of the final game "We are finishing up the tail end of the development."

We wonder if it'll use 100% of the Xbox 360's power too? If it's only 99%, we're definitely buying the PS3 version.
