Little Big Planet Update

 

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2008 in Las Vegas last night, Sony showed off some new features in LittleBigPlanet and a brief look at how users will create their own levels from scratch.

 

New additions include new emotions for the game's main characters, little stuffed sackcloth creatures called Sackboys. Click up on the controller's D-pad to make the creature go from straight-faced to smiling, to grinning to deliriously happy, tongue hanging out for emphasis. Click down on the D-pad to turn him into a scowling sourpuss. Sackboy's newfound emotions will also affect his other gestures. He'll shoot the peace sign, Nixon-style, if he's in a good mood and bare his fists if he's in a bad mood.

Sony's Strong Holiday Sales

Almost 4 million units of hardware sold in North America over 2007 holiday season.

ver the weekend, Sony announced their hardware sales figures for the 2007 holiday sales window, and the numbers across all three systems were quite impressive. Combining sales for the PS3, PS2 and PSP, Sony sold more than 3.9 million units of hardware in North America from November 23rd to December 31st. Claiming success with the Daxter and Star Wars Battlefront PSP Entertainment packs, Sony moved 1.4 million handheld systems during this period. The PS2 remained a consistent seller, moving more than 1.3 million units in its eighth holiday season. The PS3 had a solid holiday as well, moving 1.2 million hardware units in the same period.

 

Jack Tretton commented on the success of the PlayStation brand over the holidays, stating, "The PlayStation brand ended the year in a very strong position and clearly indicates more positive momentum going into 2008. We are particularly pleased to have sold through 1.2 million units of PS3 during the holiday selling season. The strong PS3 sales also further establish Blu-ray's dominant position as the high-definition medium of choice for games and movies. Consumers are clearly responding to the expanding multimedia capabilities and a great line-up of over 200 games."

Εγω πιστευω οτι θα επιρεασει και αρκετα θα ελεγα μαλιστα. Το θεμα ειναι οτι τωρα που η sony καθιερωσε το blu ray να ασχοληθει και με το ps3 σαν gaming μηχανη, και να φτιαξει αυτο το τραγελαφικο online gaming ...

Sony teases us with LittleBigPlanet at CES 2008

 

Sony will show the highly anticipated and delayed LittleBigPlanet Sony PS3 game at the CES 2008.

 

Sony showed LittleBigPlanet the first time in March 2007. At the end of 2007 it was clear that Sony missed the first announced release date. Now it looks like Sony is going to announce a release date for LittleBigPlanet at the CES 2008.

 

On the Sony CES site LittleBigPlanet is featured with a gameplay video I have not seen yet.

 

LittleBigPlanet is developed by Media Molecule and has an interesting concept of players being able to build, play and share in a community.

Whoa -- DiNovo Mini has a hidden PS3 compatibility switch

 

We actually didn't catch this when we toyed around with Logitech's DiNovo Mini the other night, but the eagle-eyed team from Engadget Chinese just pointed out that there's a switch inside that allows you to select between PC and PS3 modes. We're not 100 percent on what it switches around -- it's Bluetooth either way, after all -- but we're assuming some of the function keys get remapped. Pretty hot -- and definitely less dorky than the absurd-but-ridiculous 360 Chatpad.

CES 2008: Sony Lists MGS4 as 'Exclusive'

Dismissing rumors of an Xbox 360 port...for now.

 

 

While traversing the CES 2008 show floor, we came across a demonstration of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for PlayStation 3. We're told it's the same demo as the hands-on kiosks at the Tokyo Game Show and E for All events last fall, but running on a separate screen above the demo was a running list of PS3 facts. Among these random facts was additional confirmation that Sony considers MGS4 a PS3 exclusive release.

 

 

Will the Xbox 360 port rumors ever die? Probably not, but at CES 2008, Sony' maintains you'll have to pick up their machine to finish Snake's journey.
