PS3 Patch to Cook PS3 Mods for UT3 Released in Beta!

Today Epic Games sent out an email to an unknown amount of people on the Developer Mailing list, who now have access to the PS3 Mod Tools patch for there Unreal Editor. They have been ask not to "distribute it or make it generally available to the public." So we will be giving you the best information without giving you the tools! Expect to see many downloads for PS3 version available at psnathome.com!

So we have an update, there is some information now out that tells exactly what is and what is not supported for the PS3 Modifications. Below I have provided the exact wording that is included with the PS3modstools.

 

What Is Supported

The following types of mods are supported. See the Not Supported section for

any restrictions.

 

Maps

These mods are created and saved with UnrealEd..

These are new maps that are intended for Epic supplied game types, or for

your own game types.

 

Mutators

These mods are programmed with UnrealScript.

These can be activated optionally during matches. These can range from

replacing all weapons to changing gravity in odd ways to affecting player

movement.

These can be auto-downloaded from a server running the new game type

without needing to install the mod on the client PS3s. Note that this is

just to play as a client; to run a server (or offline) with the mutator,

you will need to install the mod the standard way. Auto-downloaded mods

are put into a temporary cache only.

 

Game types

These mods are programmed with UnrealScript. This is a new set of game rules that use existing maps (see Total Conversions for game types) These can be auto-downloaded like a mutator, above.

 

Custom Characters

Character pieces are simply building blocks for the custom character system in UT3

 

Total Conversions

A Total Conversion, or TC, typically means replacing all of the content that shipped with a game with completely unique content, including the main menu.

On the PS3, the main menu cannot be replaced, but it can be used to load another level that is the TCʼs main menu. This can then branch off to load the TCʼs maps, etc.

These are generally a combination of new game types, new models, and new levels.

 

Other modifications may work, but these are what we have tested and planned for.

 

 

What Is Not Supported

Naturally, given the limited memory on PS3, etc, there are limitations to what you can do.

 

Mutators and game types must consist of UnrealScript code only. This means that you cannot have a mutator that turns all UT3 weapons into a space cow model that you import.

 

This is because they need to work with shipping maps, and too much content added on will cause the PS3 to run out of memory.

 

Importing sounds is not supported. This is because UT3 uses a proprietary

version of ATRAC3 and we are unable to release the tool that is needed to

convert .wav files to the format required by the game.

 

It is unknown if we will be able to have some system for sound conversion in the future.

 

We understand the limitation this places on mod developers, and will rectify this if at all possible in a future version.

Real Racers Actually Use Gran Turismo To Train

 

Apparently GT creator Kazunori Yamauchi clocked over 1,000 laps on a famous German track and then had a go at it in real life. In his first 12 laps he was driving at 90% capacity and after a few more he was clocking times that rivaled that of the pack. This test and interview definitely shows that Gran Turismo has finally come of age as more than a game and can be considered a real-life simulator.

LOL...και εγω επαιξα πανω απο 10000 ωρες το Forza2 και μετα πηγα στη Monza και εσπασα το ρεκορ πιστας.:P

Για μια καλη γνωριμια της πιστας καλο ειναι, αλλα μεχρι εκει...

 

Σημειωτεον, καποιοι πιλοτοι της F1 ειχαν πρωτομαθει(οπτικα εννοω) την πιστα της Τουρκιας μεσω του F1 2005 ή 2006, δεν θυμαμαι.

ESRB rates Rayman, Street Fighter Alpha for PSP and PS3

 

Want to know what PlayStation One games Sony plans on adding to the PlayStation store? Well, the ESRB has already rated two classic games for both the PlayStation Portable and the PlayStation 3: Rayman and Street Fighter Alpha.

 

Rayman was released on the PlayStation 1 back in 1995 by Ubisoft. This 2D platformer was well-received by the gaming community. The game had players rushing around on a mission to defeat Mister Dark and his minions.

 

Capcom's Street Fighter Alpha on the other hand was a major change from the other Street Fighter games that came before it. The game had multiple characters including a few new additions such as Dan, Rose, and Charlie.

 

No word yet on when both games will be added, but we can probably expect both of them to be added to the PlayStation Store soon. After all, the ESRB has already rated both games, right?

Alone in the Dark

Toy Home Review

It's windup DLC.

Greg Miller writes:

 

"So, how much do you value ten dollars? Sure, Toy Home is pretty at times, has a nice leaderboard option and is fun to tear through, but you'll have seen all the eight courses have to offer after your first run. That leaves you to complain about the game's two cars, repetitive gameplay and laggy online battle mode. To me, Toy Home is fun for a while but not worth my Hamilton."

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue to hit March 19th, $39.99?

 

Starting today, gamers may now pre-order Gran Turismo 5 Prologue via their local Gamestop or EB Games for only $5. According to Gamestop's listing, Polyphony Digital will be releasing GT 5 Prologue on March 19th, 2008 for only $39.99 USD.

 

For those of you paying attention to the game's release in Japan, you know since it's arrival on December 13th, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue has sold nearly 160,000 copies.

 

For a title that is an early look at what the overall product will be, Prologue is simply amazing. Currently Polyphony Digital has the game running at 1080p and at 60fps.

PlayStation 3 To Get Firmware Update & Sony Shows 2 BD-Live Players

 

At the Sony booth, they are showcasing two new prototype BD-Live players. The Sapphire 3 and 4 will both be Profile 2.0. Sony also has indicated that the PS3 will get a BD-Live upgrade sometime in the future.
