Activision is set to offer seven new songs in various downloadable content packages during December on both Xbox 360 and PS3.

A Warner/Reprise Track Pack is being prepped, and set to include Linkin Park's "No More Sorrow", Mastadon's "Sleeping Giant" and The Used's "Pretty Handsome Awkward", all based on master recordings.

Single-song downloads are also planned from "European bands", including Extremoduro's "So Payaso", Trust's "Antisocial" and Die Fantastischen Vier's "Ernten War Wir Säen".

Finally, Activision is set to release a free "exclusive rock rendition" of "We Three Kings" recorded by Steve Ouimette.

Pricing for the others has yet to be specified, but track packs typically cost 500 Microsoft Points on Xbox Live Marketplace and USD 6.25 on the PlayStation 3 Store.

So, look out for those soon. We've asked Activision for more details (and details on when PS3 owners can expect some of the other DLC already out on Xbox 360), and hope to hear back soon.

ONLINE TEAM PLAY RELEASED FOR NBA LIVE 08

Online Team Play Enables 5 Friends To Play On One Team

Online Against 5 Rivals From Another Team

Electronic Arts has released a free downloadable feature called Online Team Play for NBA LIVE 08 that will enable 10 people on 10 different consoles anywhere in the world to connect online to play a single match. The new feature is automatically available for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system when connected online. It will be available on the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system later this month.

In NBA LIVE 08, all 10 players on the floor can now be controlled by individual users on 10 different consoles, removing the use of artificial intelligence altogether. Player movement, decision making and game outcome can now be completely dependant on how you play as an online team, bringing you closer to a real life game of basketball than ever before. This new game mode enables any number of players from one to five on different consoles to connect and play online against another team of up to five players on five different consoles. The CPU will take control of any players not controlled by users.

Sony to release new entertainment system? PS3.5 in the works?

"A new trademark protection application filed by Sony reveals they might have something revolutionary up their well-guarded sleeves. With on demand video and PlayStation Home just around the corner, you'd think that they had gadget convergence well and truly covered, but it seems that isn't so. Sony has applied to protect a mysterious new television and home entertainment system, under the name Mezone.

The December 5th filing covers a quite staggering array of Sony services, including "Computer hardware, set top boxes, remote controls, and computer software and peripherals, namely audio and video receivers and transmitters and computer software programs enabling receipt, download, playing, personalized and interactive viewing,

The key word here though is 'playing', meaning games are definitely involved in some way. Could it be that like so many before them, Sony are going to bring out some expanded version of their home console? Sega once produced a Sat-Nav enabled 'Hi-Saturn', and Nintendo released a multimedia 'Panasonic Q' Gamecube, so perhaps some new version of the PS3 is on its way. However, considering the functionality the PS3 already has, and based on the trademark name, it's more likely Mezone covers some new social networking service or other system for connecting media and consumers. For now Mezone.com greets you with an abrupt access denial, so we'll have to wait for more on those ties and pants."

Hirai Bullish on PS3 Sales

PlayStation boss hopes to increase software production.

Sony Computer Entertainment's president doesn't seem too concerned that the PS3 is getting beaten in hardware sales by the Wii and the Xbox 360. The online version of the Yomiuri Shimbun, Japan's largest circulation newspaper, reports that, in an interview in its Monday morning edition, Hirai expressed confidence that Sony would meet its expectations of 11 million PS3 systems shipped worldwide by the end of the fiscal year.

Said Hirai to the paper, "Our new model, which was priced at 39,980 yen, 10,000 yen lower than the regular model, is performing well. We've returned to the basics of the PlayStation as a games machine, and feel that we can reach the goal of 11 million shipped by the end of the fiscal year. Pricing strategy is, of course, important, but now we're putting our power into increasing software."

Sony apparently plans on increasing software support by lending a helping hand to development studios. "In order to lessen the burden on software companies who make PS3 software, we're supporting development," said Hirai. "We'd also like to advance human resources exchanges such as dispatching Sony Computer Entertainment personnel."

Hirai hopes to bring Sony's games business back into the black in fiscal 2008.

Killzone 2 - Beta, Vehicles & Aliens?

Usually we take rumors lightly, but this one supposedly came from the Official PlayStation Magazine(UK?). A forum member at Killzone.com claims to have gotten his hands on the latest OPM- issue number 14 which contains some interesting snippets regarding Killzone 2.

• Killzone 2 also promises the inclusion of player-controlled vehicles

• Public beta test in mid `08

•”We asked deJonge to tell us a secret, “As you know, they[Helghast] are not the only inhabitants.” He wonʼt be drawn on whether those ʽotherʼ alien inhabitants are friendly or not.

This isnʼt from the North American OPM publication, as weʼve already gotten our hands on the latest issue. We want to know more and weʼll let you know if thereʼs any truth to this as soon as possible. Stay Tuned!

FFVII's Cloud to star in FFXIII?

We, like most Final Fantasy fans, were a little disappointed when Square Enix character designer, Tetsuya Normura, stated that a Final Fantasy VII remake isnʼt due anytime soon. But now, thanks to a new trailer for Final Fantasy XIII, those feelings have been replaced with ones of hope and excitement.

It looks as stunning, as weʼve come to expect, and includes brief shots of some new locations.

ffxiii_07--screenshot_large.jpg

Now watch it again. The blond hair, the outfit, that bike! Could that really be Cloud? Could we finally get to return to Midgar and reform AVALANCHE in the new FF? With Normura also stating that “We of course know ourselves what the fans want so we'd like to continue thinking up a variety of things” itʼs certainly a possibility. But until this mystery biker is officially named, all we can do is keep our fingers crossed.

Final Fantasy XIII will be released for PS3 in 2008.

Rumor: "The Real" Socom in 2008?

At its recent San Diego Gamers Day, Sony announced that SOCOM was headed for the PS3 in a new game titled SOCOM Confrontation. What's interesting about Confrontation, though, is that it's the first console SOCOM game from a developer other than Zipper (the original developers of the SOCOM franchise) -- it's being handled by the brand new developer Slant Six games (who are also handling SOCOM Tactical Strike on the PSP). In its SOCOM Confrontation presentation, Sony mentioned that Slant Six is working closely with Zipper on the two titles.

1UP confirmed with Sony that Zipper is still working on its own new SOCOM game for PS3, though it's still quite a ways off (perhaps Fall of 2008?). Our understanding is that, unlike SOCOM Confrontation, it will provide single-player and multiplayer gameplay, and the extra development time will allow Zipper to really do some new things with the franchise.

Rumor: God Of War 3 For Holidays 2008

Gotta love those rumors, and the latest batch has been provided by this month's EGM. While we know all about Sony's PSP project, God of War: Chains of Olympus, and we figured there would eventually be a God of War 3 for the PS3, we had no idea when the latter title would arrive. Well, that's the first big rumor in the magazine:

The rumor says that the next installment in the revered franchise has been pseudo-announced, and SCEA's Santa Monica team is already slaving away on God of War 3. It seems they're working hard to deliver this guaranteed blockbuster by holidays 2008, which would be very good news for PS3 owners. However, it may have to do battle with another hotly anticipated sequel: Epic's Gears of War 2 for the Xbox 360. This one is also rumored to arrive next holiday season, even though neither of these tentative release dates are confirmed. Heck, neither sequel here has even been officially confirmed by Sony or Epic.

But it's still very interesting to hear. And lastly, EGM has a rumor that will entice all you RPG fans out there- it seems Sega has plans to resurrect Skies of Arcadia, which had two installments (one each on the Dreamcast and GameCube), but never really caught on amongst the mainstream public. Critics loved those games, though, so here's hoping we do see another title, and that it's available on the PS3.

We'll see if anything here gets confirmed in the coming weeks, and if it does, we'll be sure to tell you about it. God of War 3 vs. Gears of War 2 for next Christmas? Damn, sounds good to us! We'll take 'em both, no problem.
