Normally we're used to IGN pointing out how inferior titles are on the PS3, but not this time! They have posted up a preview of the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 and are very impressed, claiming that Epic has done a great job in allowing PS3 owners to get the full Unreal Tournament experience.

After a few hours tinkering around with Epic's PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3, we have to say we're very impressed. Epic has, at least upon initial examination, done a great job making sure PS3 users get the full Unreal Tournament experience. Not only does it control well with the SIXAXIS, but the game features fully customizable mouse and keyboard support, along with the ability to load in mods. Perhaps most impressive, especially considering the number of PS3 versions of games that run poorly when compared to their counterparts on other platforms, this version's visuals are brilliantly detailed and run, at least as far as we've seen, as a very smooth clip. We have experienced a bit of slowdown on larger Warfare maps with the maximum number of bots loaded in, but it wasn't anything to get worked up about.

More to come from Burnout Paradise demo

In what could be seen as a trend (and a very welcome one at that), Burnout Paradise is another demo that will feature additional content as we get closer to the January launch date.

This kind of online update was last seen in the GT5: Prologue demo, where we enjoyed additional cars, news (if you could read Japanese) and GT-TV programs as the weeks progressed.

In a similar vein, Burnout Paradise will feature new challenges and races as time moves closer to launch date.

A great incentive to leave the demo on your hard drive and keep coming back to it to see what's new.

To keep a check on what is coming, just hit the right button and choose 'news' from the menu anywhere in the game.

MGS4 and Metal Gear Online Join Together!

Since the announcement of Metal Gear Online, itʼs been left unclear whether or not it would be released as a standalone title or bundled together with Metal Gear Solid 4. Itʼs only commonsense that the two should be paired together, but early talk didnʼt seem to suggest that they would be. Well, the January ʽ08 issue of the new PlayStation: The Official Magazine (formerly PSM) was just dropped off in my mailbox headlined on the cover with exclusive confirmation that MGS4 and MGO are in fact being integrated into one value-packed MGS experience for the PS3. Hurray!

The news comes as part of the magazineʼs “Top 10 Games of ʽ08″ cover story, with MGS4 obviously sneaking away with the #1 spot. Beyond the exciting news of the MGS4/MGO merger, there are some other details revealed about MGO too, including word that itʼll support up to 16 players in modes like Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, King of the Hill and Team Sneak on five “Starter Pack” maps. Character customization sounds like a point of emphasis for the title too, with the article stating that players will be able to customize their characters with up to three special skills (they sound very similar to the perks in Call of Duty 4), and that skills and weapons will level up over the course of play. Thereʼs plenty more discussed as well, so keep an eye out on newsstands and pick up a copy to read up on all the details, or if you have a subscription be on the lookout for your issue to arrive anytime now.

No downloadable content for Uncharted

Evan Wells has stated that there are no plans to release any downloadable content for Uncharted. When questioned as to whether any DLC was in the pipeline, Evan replied "We aren't planning any downloadable content for Uncharted, but we are planning to take advantage of whatever kind of integration into Home is possible".

The full interview is available to read in Issue 4 of D+PAD Magazine.

PS3 to Hook Up With Your Cellphone

The Remote Play functionality on the PS3/PSP is great, but Sony intends to extensively develop the feature set for broader external connectivity. Sony's CEO, Sir Howard Stringer, appeared in Tokyo and detailed how Sony intends to push the ever-booming success of the PS3. It is Sony's vision that the PS3 will eventually be able to link up to mobile phones, streaming all kind of media goodness on the go. As you can imagine, the very prospect has our PSP phone speculation senses running into overdrive.

The planned connectivity expansion is due to begin rolling out, in some form, by April 2008. Sir Stringer told Reuters, "PlayStation Network next year puts us in the direct line of fire with Apple and Microsoft." Competing with Apple and Microsoft, what on Earth could he possibly have in mind? We agree with the fine folks at Game Spot, who theorize the PS3's guns are lining up against iTunes and Xbox Live. What do you guys make of the comment? Just to get the ball rolling, here are a few PSP phone rumors of old.

NPD Fallout: Uncharted Fails to Chart

Naughty Dog's first PS3 game debuts without a bang.

PlayStation 3 may be commonly pinned as a Blu-ray platform, but that doesn't mean those owners aren't interested in actually playing games; the 444,000 copies of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare sold on PS3 last month are a testament to this. In arguably the month's biggest disappointment, Naughty Dog's PS3 debut, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, not only failed to show up in the top ten software sales for November, but only managed 117,000 sales, according to the NPD Group, during the two weeks it was available last month.

1UP contacted Sony Computer Entertainment America for comment, but we've yet to hear back. Granted, there were always fears Uncharted's pulp-influenced setting would be difficult to market (read: not enough space aliens, first-person-perspectives and bald space marines), and those fears appear to have been well-founded, unless Uncharted suddenly finds a hidden audience in the coming months.

To be fair, it did have a better first-month than Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (74,500 units), Warhawk (58,600 units) and Lair (46,500 units), but still fell behind Heavenly Sword's debut sales (139,000 units) in September.

Sony recently ditched their advertising agency, TBWA, who they'd partnered with for over 10 years. We have virtually no way to tell if the marketing this Fall, Uncharted's included, was developed before or after the switch. Maybe Sony realized their mistake too late for Uncharted to benefit, or maybe Uncharted's potential for relatively niche appeal worked against it on a hardware platform that's only just now starting to find its way in the marketplace.

Either way, Uncharted certainly deserved better; here's hoping it has some legs.
