These games look really nice. Too bad the framerate stutters when theyʼre trying to look their nicest.

Superb voice acting. Truly a work of art. The music, while used sparsely, is executed at just the right times and with enough style to put any badass to shame.

Orange Box is a blast, but beware: the framerate will interfere with your ability to play the game smoothly.

GT 5 Prologue To Not Ship With Online Mode

 

The official GT 5 Prologue site has just been updated with a few surprises and statistics. Firstly, there's going to be a total of 37 cars and 5 tracks (with 2 versions of each) - the course list is now Daytona, Fuji, Suzuka, London and the Eiger mountain track from GT HD. However, the game will only ship with offline racing, consisting of arcade races, time trials, and a series of 24 events over 3 categories, presumably to win money and cars.

 

The online features will arrive on the 25th of December as a free download, and will have additional online-only events, time trials and ranking boards, plus the ability to download ghosts and view car dealer histories.

Sony's next step is innovation, says CEO Stringer

 

Planned networking services for the PlayStation 3 video game console are a key part of Sony's new drive for innovation, Chief Executive Howard Stringer said Tuesday.

 

Stringer also said TVs using new panels called OLED and the Rolly music player with robotics technology were also products that showed Sony is back after its the company's restructuring effort.

 

Such products "bring back some of the wow factor" that is a Sony trademark, he said.

 

Stringer said the massive three-year cost-cutting drive he began to turn around Sony had gone well, and the company's immediate financial problems had been solved.

 

"The next cycle is actual innovation," he said.

Motorstorm Update 3.1 is out

 

The latest update to MotorStorm is out today.

 

Now included is a vehicle selection of 2D/3D in the host options as well as mirrored tracks.

 

The vehicle selections lets you have either the traditional 3D select screen or a 2D grid of the vehicles to choose from, which seems to speed up the selection process somewhat.

 

The host can also choose mirrored tracks which reverses the entire geometry set of the tracks. Where you went left you will now go right. An interesting mix, and will take some getting used too not to forget which way you\'re actually going!

 

The addition of a proximity meter in MotorStorm mode is also welcome, and works like the one in eliminator mode.

 

There are also 2 new music tracks, ʽDevils Crossingʼ by Elite Force and ʽBeat The Devilʼ by Jiffster (Featuring Bard)

Famitsu Review Gran Turismo 5 Prologue - 39/40

 

Famitsu - the Japanese Magazine that eclipses the rest, the one weʼre all waiting to hear from. They have now reviewed Gran Turismo 5 Prologue for the Playstation 3, and it wouldnʼt be inaccurate to say that it eclipses all other racing games around it.

 

Famitsu scored Forza 2 36/40 and PGR4 33/40 - both extremely respectable scores. They have, however, scored GT5 Prologue 39/40 - that is 10, 10, 9 and 10.

 

That is some pretty glowing scores right there, for a game that is practically only a taster of the full Gran Turismo 5. I expect theyʼre holding back that fourth perfect score for the arrival of Polyphony Digitalʼs full flung beast.

 

An incredible looking game running at 1080p 60fps, with the best car models you have ever seen and with an updated physics model to make it the most realistic driving simulator ever. Polyphony Digital are Gods.

Oh and hereʼs a nice mention of damage modeling being in the game - something which has been missing from the series. Here PSU.com suggest that car damage is in the game, though weʼve yet to see it:

 

Many fans of the series may also be pleased to learn that damage modelling has finally been implemented with Prologue. On the whole, the damage effects are quite realistic and we can safely say that the days of the Gran Turismo series being called a ʽbumper car simulatorʼ are over.

 

The arrival of the London track is something else, which will see you passing through Trafalgar Square and Piccadilly Circus. It looks incredible and is such a good addition to the series. Really we canʼt wait.

In an interesting interview with D+PAD Magazine Evan Wells, Co-President of Naughty Dog explains that Gears of War raised the bar for what they were trying to achieve with Uncharted, why Jak & Daxter wasn't the first title Naughty Dog made for PS3,and what life was like once Crash Bandicoot was sold.

Stringer : Sony sold over 200,000 PS3s in USA following Black Friday

 

Although Nintendo and Microsoft have disclosed the sales figures of their respective consoles we were yet to hear anything from Sony regarding the official sales figures of PS3.The chief executive of Sony sir Howard Stringer in an interview with Bloomberg has finally disclosed the official sales figures of PS3 post Black Friday. This is what he had to say :-

 

"Stringer today said the company sells about 200,000 PlayStation 3 consoles in Europe each week, and 40,000 to 50,000 in Japan. It also sold more than 200,000 in the U.S. following ``Black Friday,'' the day after Thanksgiving."

Sony CEO: PlayStation Home for April 1st 2008?

 

To this end he is also being reported as stating that the network overhaul will be open to third-party developers and will launch on April 1st 2008. Now, back at the Tokyo Game Show in September we reported the keynote speech of Sony Computer Entertainment president Kaz Hirai, during which he stated that the company was aiming for a Spring 2008 launch for PlayStation Home.

 

April 1st is Spring 2008 as far as we're concerned. Stringer is, as we said, rather upbeat about the PS3's online future not only stating that it will enable the PS3 to connect with other devices such as mobile phones, but also that network "puts us in the direct line of Apple and Microsoft".

Analyst believes PS3 will win war and Don Reisinger laughs

 

Don Reisinger writes, "According to an analyst over at Screen Digest discussing video game trends with Economist, not only will the Playstation 3 beat out the Xbox 360 in this generation's console war, he fully expects Sony's console to surpass the Wii by 2011."

 

"The reason: as more games become available for the Playstation 3, more people will find a reason to buy the console, which will propel Sony to the top spot."

 

"Although I can see where the analyst is coming from, I think he's dead wrong. Will the Playstation 3 overtake the Wii? Absolutely. But will it beat out the Xbox 360 when it's all said and done? Not a chance."
