Sony cuts PS3 software development kit price in half

 

Sony has reportedly slashed the fees it charges for a PS3 software development kit in order to encourage more game makers to get involved in creating games for the console. The development package has been reduced to a price of $10,250 USD.

Lost Planet for PS3 dated down under

 

A release scheduled release by Capcom has revealed that the PS3 port of Lost Planet will hit Australian shelves in Februrary 2008. Devil May Cry 4 and Turok are also expected in February, so it looks like it will be action packed month for gamers. The PS3 version of Lost Planet will also include extra features such as additional playable characters and 16 multiplayer maps right out of the box.

Sega director: PS3 will catch up if not surpass the Xbox 360

 

Sega's director of creator artists has voiced agreement in that the PS3 will catch up to if not surpass the Xbox 360. He remarked that MS has done a good job in closing the gap between the platforms unlike in the last generation and that a variety of PS3 prices for consumers isn't going to hurt the console and it still has quite some time to grow.

He notes that analysts think the PS2 could remain viable through 2009.

 

Having a variety of PS3 prices for consumers is certainly not going to hurt the PS3. "I think it has still got a little bit of time to grow," he said.

 

"Fortunately, there are a lot of videogame consumers out there, and the market continues to grow.

 

"People want to play games, and the games keep getting better. The development community is really driving that by making great product."

...According to a posting over at Blu-ray.com, Wal-Mart is having a Blu-ray promotion from 8AM this coming Saturday until midnight. Customers who come in to purchase a $499 80GB PS3 will be given ten Blu-ray movies for free -- instantly.

 

Keep in mind that the ten free titles from Wal-Mart are in addition to the five free titles that you can already receive direct from Sony via mail-in rebate. Unfortunately for the ultimate bargain shoppers, it appears that Wal-Mart's ten free Blu-ray promotion won't extend to the new entry-level $399 40GB PS3....
